Grey as a mouse,: Big as a house,
Nose like a snake,
I make the earth shake,
As I tramp through the grass;
Trees crack as I pass
The mûmak or Oliphaunt.
Hard to find sneakers big enough for this beasty.

At last, Thoroncir has a proper goal for his quest!
He can have one, but it will be one that only he can see, and none of the grown-ups will believe in it.
And it will be pink. Though we all might see it if we hit the Wose’s fermented apple drink.
Sorry, I should have been more accurate.
Ghân isn’t worried by farmers raising cattle for food and leather. (Indeed he can wear leather himself.)
It’s the spell.
To cast Identify, our 3rd level MU eats a fish.
He has a 30% chance to learn one thing, followed by a 45% chance that this information is true, 5% it’s false and 50% to learn nothing at all.
He then loses 4 points of constitution and takes 4 hours to recover them.
So each use of the spell uses up a fish and provides:
and the MU has to rest for 4 hours.
Ghân sees this more as a waste of life. How many fish do you invest to investigate our 9 magic items? How much do you trust the results?
How long will it take for Deor to recover?
(And the spell has already been improved by the DM - it used to only work within 3 hours of finding the items for Deor!)
I think I have the answer.
Get a mage that can cast ‘Tenser’s Floating Disc’ and ‘Invisibility’. The Mage makes himself invisible, Thoroncir mounts the Mumakil, the Mage casts ‘Tenser’s Floating Disc’ on the Mumakil and charges forward…
Tenser’s Floating Disc, huh? Either it will have to be one skinny elephant, or we’ll end up with a case of Tenser’s Herniated Disc.
If the Mumakil comes off, it would be a slipped disc…
Perhaps, but if we put a squirrel on Tenser’s Floating Disc, then we could have lots of fun What Exit? is going to kill me soon.
First squirrel shows up in the game thread, I’m feeding it to the hawk and that’s it.
Good thing squirrels are prolific (if my neighborhood is any indication, that is).
Now is time for business. I think we’ll handle some of the dirty details here.
I’ll be somewhat distracted by Opening Day of the Yankees, but I have no other plans tonight.
Hey D_Odds, my sister had a pet squirrel for about 7 years. When it finally passed away, we use to tease her that she was shaking trees hoping another baby squirrel would fall out. Don’t worry about the squirrel jokes here. That is one of the things the setup thread is for.
As Deor is chomping at the bit and practically races off when the Prince leaves.
You can go visit your old master and if he cannot help you, he will at least direct you to one that can.
Gil-Gandel should take the Two-Handed with foul runes to the Library.
He can help with nothing else this time.
Deor should have plenty of inexpensive success with the Magical Tarlike Substance.
The Staff, Belt & Necklace should be easy ID’s for a better mage.
The Books & pouch should be tricky. The will require dispel magics or something similar.
The procurement specialist will aid in the armor & weapons sale and help you find where to buy stuff and stay out of trouble. He also leads you by your temporary home. He can help you sell the goods for 346GP and cash in the gems & jewelry for Gold.
This will be a total of 1800 gold and the magic items.
The Alchemist checks the tarlike substance for only 5gp. It is a magical and nasty poison. The dwarf who was hit with it was very lucky.
Gil-Gandel determines the Runes are not so bad. It is black speech and talks of the Uruk’s prowess in battle. The sword will still need to be Id’d
Deor gets his master to check the rest for 50gp per on the Sword, Staff, Belt & Necklace
He will take care of the books & pouch in exchange for reading the books.
Is this agreeable?
FWIW, it suits me, thanks.
200gp total? Sounds like a bargain. Pay close attention to what he does and try to learn a bit.
More paperwork:
I have calculated the XP (experience points)
I have a baseline of 1500 for all characters and all characters except for Brin earn a 10% bonus base on 1st Ed rules for their class.
Should I just post the XP here or send out individual PMs/Emails?
I will say Malacandra earned the most for Gil-Gandel and this was based on his song contributions and role-playing.
Only one character will have gained a level and that is of course our treasure finder. He has by far the easiest chart.
I won’t always have such a proportionally high base XP total, but more happened as new experiences than actual experience from kills and captures.
You collectively met several living legends, got a crash course in adventuring together and worked great as a team. You rescued many and took enough prisoners to gain more info and lead to a potential next adventure. You also collectively added the twist of bringing the orcs back for justice and showing mercy. Gandalf would be proud.
Jim
I say post it.
Actually 205 GP, you missed the alchemist nominal charge. (He is hoping to make some sales)
Paying 200 gp to identify the Sword, Staff, Belt and Necklace sounds fine to me!
I don’t quite understand the deal over the Spellbooks and Pouch though. Is Deor’s Master going to identify the Pouch and Books in exchange for taking some of the spells?
In any case, thanks to Deor for organising that.
He’s going to copy them, I think, if they’re interesting.
You got it, you learned well.
