D & D on the Straight Dope setup thread. (In Middle Earth FA63)

I thought Dwarvish was right, but I trusted you all knew better than me.

Last time any of you get my trust! :harumph:

:stuck_out_tongue:

:smack: Yes, it should be Quenya and not Quenyan.

So, I have an interesting problem regarding Sting. I’m a thief who’s primary weapon glows a brilliant blue when near what is likely to be our most common foe. In PM’s I tried to take every precaution not to have the orcs spot it as What Exit? confirmed. I also specifically brought grease paint along to obscure the blade (haven’t used it yet). I’m just not sure how well that’s going to work, especially after being thrust into the scabbard or an orc. I would appreciate any input from both our DM and other players as far as how to play this out. Sigh! This was never a problem for Bilbo or Frodo.

Btw, in response to a comment yesterday about putting money on the Hobbits against the orcs… Trust me, I was very tempted to try playing Hobbit Berserker, but I really didn’t want to get written out of the game so quickly if things didn’t go well. :smack:

I overplayed the odds of **Sting ** being exposed to further the game. Consider it a freaky turn of bad luck. I admitted to it being a bit of a railroad.

Once you stab and orc, you will need to be careful, but you should be fine with the scabbard. Ensure it has a liberal amount of the grease paint.
As for Elven languages in Color, I thought it over and I would like to use magenta if we use any different color. I use Red for Wounds in combat and it helps **Glee ** and I to find the healing that needs to be done.

Some more LOTR characters beg to be fit into D&D terms. Elrond and Galadriel are clerics, maybe, or multiclassed with MU? Beorn must be a high-level Druid. I have no idea where to place Tom Bombadil.

Note: **Elendil’s Heir ** is on vacation so I am hopefully doing something he would want his character to do in the game thread.

**I am on vacation next week and will only be checking the dope about once per day tops. Probably at night. **

Here is my quick take:
Tom is some variant of Finnish Uber-Bard.
Beorn as a Druid works for me.
Elrond strikes me as a Fighter/Mage and Galadriel as a very high powered Cleric/Druid/Mage combination of some sort.

Indeed you did. Many thanks!

Good to see you back Elendil’s Heir. Sounds like the vacation was a good one.

Yes, it was. My parents, two sisters, their families and mine (me, my wife and three boys) all went on a cruise aboard the Queen of the West, a relatively small but very comfortable paddlewheel liner, along the Columbia, Willamette and Snake rivers. Beautiful country: deep pine forests, snow-capped mountains, dark waters. Learned a lot about Lewis & Clark, visited Mt. St. Helens, saw some very cool raptors up close (including owls, kestrels, falcons, a golden eagle, and a magnificent red-tailed hawk!), read a lot (Jeffrey Archer’s Twelve Red Herrings, William Styron’s Havanas in Camelot, and Lawrence Freedman’s Kennedy’s Wars), and enjoyed some excellent food and wine.

Hard to come back, but I had to find out what had happened in Ered Lithui!

What Exit?: I don’t appear to have received a map :frowning:

Sorry, missed the link in the other game :smack:

**Glee ** is on vacation and so limited internet.
**Malacandra ** is on a new job and has limited time currently.
**appleciders ** I believe is on low internet use for the summer.
**Omi no Kami ** is back from vacation
**Elendil’s Heir ** and myself are back.
**NAF1138 ** checked in last night.

Is **D_Odds ** on vacation?

Everyone else has been active as far as I can tell.

Sorry for my low activity, I have been following but have been a bit swamped personally so my creativity has been a tad tapped. Things are settleing down, I should be more involved again.

I’m doing my best to post, but access from my hotel is spotty…

My apologies What Exit?, I normally stick a Burglar’s Lantern down as part of a Thieves Kit. :smack:

You are right, it’s not on my char sheet, I really must be slipping.

No problem, next time you run into a Dwarven community, see if you can purchase a good high quality mining lantern. The make nearly unbreakable, very efficient ones which act as both bullseye and standard.

Excuse me for kibbutzing, but though Hodawain may not have heard of “Radagast”, he may have heard of the Istari in general, and maybe R by other names (Aiwendil)

Brian

That’s a good point.

It is nice to know that others are still following these threads.

Thank you for the post.

Jim

Hey, bonus points to the two Hobbit Players. Neither of you swatted away the beetles or stomped on them. You get to stay invisible!

Oh, so that was the trap. Interesting.
