D & D on the Straight Dope setup thread. (In Middle Earth FA63)

Dear SDMB,

I have recently met a wonderful girl, who is classy, intelligent and skilled.
I think she might be older than me, but that doesn’t matter to me.
Her family are very well-connected, so I don’t know how they will feel about me being in the military.

Thanks for listening,
Thrnc*r

P.S. I saved her life - does that count for something?!

LOL. Thanks, glee - you made my day!!!

RogueRacer, I agree and as the Mayor now has more Sherriffs and a larger post office that includes Bree and even Fornost on its run, even the Mayor is a bit more important. The Wardens are actually reps for King and the Hereditary position of Thain has expanded under Pippin a bit. Also a King’s Rep.

Additionally, the Shire now exports much produce to the rebuilding North Kingdom and send Pipeweed south to Rohan & Minas parts of Gondor.

Glee, but one point, Thoroncir knows Renee is only 16. Thoroncir is 20.

I am suddenly hearing
“I met a girl so fair. But Gollum and the evil one crept up, And slipped away with her. Ain’t nothing I can do no, I guess I’ll keep on rambling. …”

Dear Thrnc*r,

Even the best-connected families sometimes turn out to have a history of women who married beneath their station. With patience and understanding these things can often be worked out. You often find that the father of the bride sets the suitor some little task to prove that he his not merely trifling with their daughter - say, recovering a piece of ancient treasure from the impregnable stronghold of an incarnate demigod, or overthrowing a Dark Lord while armed with only a broken sword. Try not to be put off too easily in a case like this, for who knows what good fortune may attend him who is favoured of the Valar?

For the Win!

My bolding above.

Nicely played glee and Malacandra!

Dear SDMB:

Well, if that’s all I have to do, no problemo! For a minute I thought it might be tough to get her parents’ approval. What a relief. Thanks for the advice, and wish me luck…

Jerry,
We may have an extra item to put in the next show (between ‘Do Dwarf women have beards?’ and ‘Who do you think you are? Gollum’s ancestry!’)
Apparently some unemployed bloke (he claims he’s an ‘adventurer’) is hoping to link up with a posh bird who has Royal connections.
I’m sure we can find rival suitors, get the parents to come on and disapprove and find some buddies (who share ‘adventures’ with him) to come up with embarrassing anecdotes.
The word is that he’s a big strong boy, so we’ll need more bouncers than normal.

I have realized today that I have not mentioned it, but I have really enjoyed ref’ing this game. It has been a lot of fun and that is because of you all.

I never imagined it would go this well. I was not sure how I could actually handle 8 players at once and how long the interest would and could be maintained.

I am overwhelmed by the success so far and the great contributions of each player. This has gone much better than I ever expected.

Thank you all.

Jim

If anything, we’re the ones who should be thanking you! I’ve often heard managing dopers compared to herding cats, and so I for one really appreciate all of your and everyone else’s efforts at making this game rock.

Though I don’t have much basis for comparison, I’ve enjoyed the heck out of this and I’m glad we’ve had the chance to do so. I hope this can continue for a long time.

It’s mutual!

Thanks Mod man! I have been having a great time and also hope that we can keep this going for a good long while. Just reading your description of events posts is enough to keep me coming back for more.

Thanks for adding me in late! I remember reading the posts and hoping for a chance to join. As I mentioned before, the success of this campaign speaks for itself (and I mean that in the best possible way).

While we’re on the subject, thank you for being so patient with my questions. I came in with little background in the system or the game world, and your quick responses to my occasional flurries of random questions have been hugely helpful.

We really should be thanking you, What Exit! (that’s right, you deserve an exclamation point and not a question mark here). I’ve had, and am still having, a blast. The only way I can remotely conceive that it would be better would be if we were all sitting around a table together, drinking beer, eating Cheetos, rolling dice and cracking jokes. For an online game, it’s without equal. Thanks for a great campaign so far, and for all the fun we still have to look forward to.

What Exit? - Many thanks from me for the great adventure.

I hope the people reading it are having as much fun as the people playing it.

And I can finally start using the right pronouns for Mulligan.

Oh and if anyone does have any question on Angelica Mulligan Took, feel free to ask.

Thank you. I tried to avoid pronoun use for Mulligan. It was tricky.
I just spent a lot of time pouring through the prior threads to reconcile the magic items and update my master sheet. Something went very wrong at some point for me, but all is now corrected. This is one advantage that this medium has over tabletop gaming. Everything is recorded and can be reviewed. In my Friday night game, I keep a running log in Word, but I don’t get everything in and sometimes errors occur. Especially when we go several weeks without a session.

Of course the visuals are really tough in this format.

While I was “Treasure Finding”, I did some checking and it does not look like most of you have met the Queen before. I got mixed up with my Friday game where they met her and the Prince at some benches by the White Tree.

I know what you mean. I run two school roleplaying groups consecutively using the same material.

However due to entirely different approaches (both interesting) to an adventure, they are now running the adventure one week apart.
So they can’t compare notes (they are very good about keeping things secret) but I have the problem of remembering who has done what!

Everyone should have gotten a PM with updated XP and where it happened Level and Hit points.
