D & D on the Straight Dope setup thread. (In Middle Earth FA63)

Ghân has received this.

OK! So what’s the story? Why the Victor/Victoria act? Parental disapproval? Social pressures? Gender-identity issues? And why reveal yourself now?

Because its more fun this way and because it would be easier to do what she wanted to do, which is adventuring. She was not sure how people would react to a female hobbit wanting to go KMANT, so she dressed as a male hobbit and let people think what they expected to think. She was just careful not to give anyone a reason to question her gender. As a male hobbit, it seemed to work just fine.

Yes, Eowyn is a bit of a hero figure to Mulligan and certainly inspired some of the behaviour. My original concept was a cross between Pippin and Eowyn.

Why reveal now, apart from being able to use the right pronouns. Because she trusts the various members of the group and hopes that she has done enough to earn their respect regardless of her misdirection. She felt it would be better to reveal it now, than surprise them in the field, especially if they are to go adventuring again.

And because the look on several party members faces was worth it :stuck_out_tongue:

Thoroncir’s jaw is still a little sore from having hit the floor so hard, but he doesn’t mind. He’s glad to have Mulligan’s secret out. He is, as a rule, uncomfortable with deception and artifice. He would rather all of Eru’s free and beloved children - Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, Woses, Men and others - be true to themselves, so long as no evil came of it.

During the Lewis & Clark expedition’s travels, there were several times when having a woman in the party (Sacagawea) convinced potential foes that the Corps of Discovery’s intentions were peaceful, thus averting bloodshed. Gilraen and Angelica may have the same effect; who knows?

Gilraen, maybe, but if you turned Angelica upside down and shook her down for concealed weapons, it would be quite a while before the clattering and tinkling noises stopped.

I suspect you’re right… but Thoroncir has no intention of trying.

I will be sending out the condensed version of everyone’s character tonight via Email. I keep a single Word Document with 2 characters per page so it is more condensed then what I sent originally.

I need a few last things from **CatInASuit **for Mulligan, but I am otherwise updated.

I have tried to correct the dozens of spelling errors from the original effort.

Thanks for your documentation.

Miron’s paperwork looks fine- thank you for your efforts keeping everything organized.

Please see the Game Thread post 1369, I updated Ghân’s, Miron’s and Gilraen’s level based percentile abilities there. I missed that before, though I did all three thieves.

New character sheet looks good. Level progression is exactly as listed in the 1st Ed. Player’s Handbook, yes?

Yes, the only exception is Gil-Gandel as I just have him go up a level at a time in both classes at once and thus his increments are both added together.

Let me know what you need, I am a bit behind currently.

Just the number of Sleep and Paralysis doses you wanted made. I think that is the last thing.

For the Sleeps see post 1350

The paralysis doses are only 1gp per.

5 of each for starters, I will need to get used to using it before going for something more exotic.

The new Thread: Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game. Fourth Adventure. Journey to Rivendell

And awaaaaaaay we go!

Happy Hobbit Day everyone

September 22nd is of course the day that both Bilbo and Frodo were born. The Gardners, Fairbairns and the House of Telcontir all celebrate this day.

Many thanks - right back 'atcha!

Nitpick: “Telcontar.”

Mushrooms and fourteen-twenty all round!
