D&D setup thread – game 2 (Mediaeval English background)

Aha! I see what ArrMatey!'s done … he’s accidentally taken a spell on his device and listed it as if it were loaded in his mind.
So your first action is to pick a replacement spell at 1st level.

You have already loaded:

  • @ 1st level Magic Missile, Unseen Servant, (plus one to come)
  • @2nd level Invisibility x 2

You can choose any of Find Familiar, Magic Missile, Shield or Sleep as a replacement - and still have both Charm Person and Ventriloquism on your device.

I can’t remember right now what Shield did in 1e. So, rather than dig out my PHB I will go for another Sleep.

In this game, Shield lasts for 5 rounds per level, acts as weightless Chain Mail* and blocks Magic Missiles completely.

*It works against attacks from all directions and doesn’t interfere with spell-casting.

Actually that sounds neat. Can I change the extra spell to a Shield please?

No worries.

(And once this game day ends, you can load any combination you like. I should add that Shield can only be cast on yourself.)

I was Internetless for seven hours today. This is apparently due to some recabling works. From what the workers said, it’s going on all over the weekend.

If I disappear for a while, blame BT.

OK, there’s been some manouevring to cope with real life interfering with games.

So we currently have:

What Exit? Druid (Human)
Fluiddruid Fighter (Lizardman)
Malacandra Illusionist / Thief (Gnome)
NAF1138 Cleric (Human)
Wolfman Ocean Barbarian (Human)
MHaye Magic User (Human)
Appleciders Ranger (Human)
me Paladin (Human)

As the games about to speed up  , the Paladin will now step aside (but be available if a player steps up  )

The remaining Seven characters are all in good hands (one might say Magnificent  ) and should enjoy the adventure.

YAY! So we are back on track and ready to role?

(see what I did there? Ok, so it wasn’t really funny, but it made me smile.)

Hoping to see the game revived soon.

I’d like to get player opinions, so I can make the adventure as enjoyable as possible.
Looking at the 3 roleplaying threads, they all have their own character.
I think mine goes into more detail and has more conversation with NPC’s (Non-Player-Characters).
There are also several plotlines, which means players need to look back at the thread (and also study their character background for clues.)

Although this is my usual style, it may not be so suited for Internet play.

Here is an example of what I mean:

At the start, the players had a vision, including this:

  • a metal gauntlet savagely squeezes a fruit into pulp, whilst a deep voice laughs “…like this!”

Here are the further clues to what this meant (I’ve spoilered them in case that’s preferable):
- Attracted by the crowd, a couple of uniformed* troopers come over to you. After listening for a moment, they order you to move on.

*they wear the insignia of a mailed fist

  • The soldiers initially enjoy ordering the peasants around.
But when they notice you, they look a bit shifty and take a step back.
  • ‘The Merry Monk’ is all right, but Sir Guy Gisbourne’s men hang out there, so most folk avoid it.
  • Simon says that everybody knows that Sir Guy Gisbourne (the Lord of the Manor) wants to be Sheriff.
  • Next a tall male human wearing Chain with a longsword strides into the room, followed by another six guards. His shield carries the emblem of a mailed fist.
  • Firstly I found a constant emanation of Evil. Typically this shows an Evil Monster, or a worshipper of an Evil Deity.
Secondly, do you remember during the song when Gisbourne looked at Hans? Well the Evil level shot through the roof!
So my question to the players is: do you enjoy this sort of ‘layered’ adventure, or would you like it all simplified?

Personally I would prefer it if we were not led by the nose, thanks. So keep up the scattering of clues throughout the day.
Although it’s obvious who was behind the kidnapping of the boy. The gate guards left their posts just before the wain was drive hrough it. Who told them to do that?

:stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t worry, I’ll be putting that in the thread. Right after I’ve got over pining for a Phantom Steed spell.
I like it. I have to admit I am unsure as to what to do a lot of the time, but I do like it. In many ways this game is more fun to watch unfold than the ME game, but because it is simpler I have a better handle on what to do in that game. Also, that game is more active, which I think helps.

But don’t go changing a thing, glee, I am really liking this game.

OK, I appreciate the input.

Of course it’s not that one roleplaying approach is better than another, but I realise that Internet play doesn’t allow the sustained concentration of face-to-face.

Grrr.

Glee, right now I am fighting the temptation to name my horse “Through the Glen.”

You can guess why.

So do we ride off?
Which NPC’s are going?
Do we ride single file?
Who is just riding and trying not to fall off versus who is actually skilled?

Well I am actually a skilled rider. Single file seems silly for now. But I am not sure what the pros and cons are.
I suggest that we pick a leader like we did over in the ME game. I am going to nominate What Exit (if he will take the job) since I don’t want Mal becoming an all powerful D&D god. :stuck_out_tongue:

What Exit clearly knows what he is doing and is online often enough to keep things rolling.

Me, I am still a tad at a loss as to what to do next, but I am here and reading and hoping that I will start catching on.

P.S. Feel free to blab in character - it makes the game more interesting for those less familiar with English mythology…

To save time (rather than wait for 7 replies), I’ll answer all these in the thread.

I see our singing gnome has caught on.

See I told you that’s what he sang to Sir Guy. It has to be to have gotten that far up his nose.

As I said, this is a slightly different style to the other games.

Feel free to ask non-player characters questions. Make suggestions to the group.

Your character is definitely naive, but perfectly well-respected. Also you and Crumlin are good friends…
