Dancing with the Stars is moving to Disney+. You’ll have to subscribe to watch.
That’s not a option for me. I have very little interest in Disney shows. I used to watch DWTS obsessively. I’d watch the show and then rewatch the weeks best dances on YouTube. That changed a few years ago. I only watched a few episodes during the last season.
Do you already have Disney+? Are you going to subscribe for DWTS?
Disney Plus is aiming to be the next HBO in fact there are rumors of having an adult Disney plus and and Disney + kids/teens split
but for DWTS itself it’s not the powerhouse it used to be after the mc changes and some newer rules and people were …especially unhappy with some of the “stars” they’ve picked too … (the Jojo Siwa saga put some of the old-timers in permanent vapors )
Now they can escape controversy by saying " well if you really wanna watch it go here but we don’t have to deal with broadcast tv rules and can be controversial " ie skimpier costumes they don’t have to edit songs and the like
I wouldn’t be surprised if the newer American idol does the same thing eventually
Is it just me or does the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery not make sense to anyone else? WarnerMedia is HBO, TBS, TNT, CNN, etc. while Discovery is Food Network, TLC, HGTV, etc. They don’t seem to have anything in common.
I would think it’s programming i"synergy" dea.l… i mean if tbs and TNT don’t have a show to run, they can pop in an cooking or home makeover show at 11:30 am and not have it costs a dime,
and hey if they wanna get publicity for the season 2 of satc reboot … why not have SJP and her costars give someone’s living room a show-related makeover or have sjp and her friends cook themed dinners based on the show while getting scripted gossipy about things …
Also, why not have guy fieri have a cameo or a 1 ep role as a crazy caterer that gives him something to be interviewed about for weeks while talking about diners’ drive-ins and dives … …
You could work this all day and get paid for doing it …
Perhaps it’s just me, but WarnerMedia channels seem to mostly be scripted entertainment, while Discovery channels seem to mostly be unscripted reality shows. So I’m currently an HBO/HBO Max subscriber but never thought of subscribing to Discovery+ because the reality stuff does not appeal to me.
I find it interesting that a show on its last legs gets moved to a paid premium channel.
It mighr find a new audience on Disney+. The best celebrities have already done the show. They’ve relied heavily on so called reality stars and tarnished stars like Tanya Harding. Maybe Will Smith for the next season?
Anyway, I wish the dancers and cast all the best. They devote a lot of hours of practice for their 2 1/2 min dance on Monday night
Given how astoundingly quickly my desire to watch this show completely divebombed over the past three seasons (28, 29, 30), I can’t say I’m going to miss it. Heck, I’ve been scrabbling for an excuse to never have to watch this over dinner again after you know who finished you know where, and it looks like the matter just got settled.
If I had to speculate as to why, my guess is that the key motives are escaping criticism and tightening up the voting blocs. They’ve taken plenty of heat for all the bad moves they made…bringing on right wingers, replacing Tom Bergeron with Tyra Banks, putting in lots of tedious fluff pieces, theme after theme after theme, etc. By restricting the show to a dedicated platform, they’re going to get a much better percentage of viewers who like all that junk. And by restricting voting to said platform, that means that only dedicated followers of DWTS have any say now, so results are going to be more in tune with the demographics Disney is trying to sell stuff to honest.
If I’m proven completely wrong, feel free to rub it in my face on this thread, to which I’ll quietly nod and go back to watching tool-assisted speedruns on YouTube.
