I can’t believe they basically pitted Rocco while giving Cloris sevens and eights. Now, Rocco’s no dancer, but he takes it seriously, he smiles and he tries real hard. Cloris is pathetic and should’ve been auffed the first week, if there was any justice.
Susan is still fragile and tentative. Although the tango was a better dance for her, I still don’t see her putting any violence into it. She’s mincing and prancing on the dance floor.
I can’t help it, I like Cody’s lines when he dances, although I think he’s a repellant child and I pity Julianne. That’s not to say that he couldn’t dance bettere, but he seems to extend himself well, and I think he could grow up into a good dancer.
I liked the way Maurice went out and attacked his dance, although it wasn’t ultimately a success. I’d expect a sprinter to be lighter on his feet.
Brooke really works the dance. I’m impressed that Derek has been able to bring out so much in her. Toni is okay, but she needs to move up a notch. Lance’s biggest detriment is his partner. I was less impressed with Warren this week - in part because of the outfit, maybe. They were going for the teddy bear look. They don’t need to - he can dance.
The judges kinda alluded to it…but the problem with Warren was his choreographer not giving him anything to do. What he did, he did well – but look at the intricacy of his samba, as compared to Brooke’s. No contest.
Lacey seemed to be dancing around lance. Still don’t like her.
After seeing Toni & Alec, maybe I just don’t like the dance. She didn’t look like she knew what she was doing, or something. It was like looking to him for reassurance.
Susan always looks so fragile, like she might break - and apparently, that’s because she could. But she looked fragile last week in the tango too.
I liked Warren about halfway through the dance, but I thought it started slow.
I now know where Mark gets the guppy faces. Also, this seemed to go downhill from last week.
I liked Julianne & Cody’s much better than Derek & Brooke’s.
An altogether underwealming week. None of the dances other than the two jitterbugs, which is a style I’ve never cared for, were up to the level I would have expected this many weeks in. A few looked hardly rehearsed at all.
It was probably a mistake to put in new dances that the professionals themselves were mostly inexperienced with.
I wonder how much of that was a concession to Lacey, who isn’t a traditional ballroom dancer and thus probably less able to deal with many of the rest of the dances that are done.
Lacey is not as good a ballroom dancer as the rest of the pros, but she did compete in amateur Latin at a high level and should certainly be competent to dance all of the regular ballroom dances. What she doesn’t have compared to the other pros is lots of teaching experience with ballroom (as far as I know).
I missed Lance and Lacey this week, as I was still getting my son to bed when the show started. I didn’t care for any of the other dances except the jitterbugs. I appreciated that Susan didn’t do that annoying hoppy thing too much in the Hustle (unlike Warren), but it was still too careful-looking.
Despite Toni’s strong start, she wasn’t doing that well – and lacked the fan base. Not too surprising that she’s gone. God willing we’ll get rid of Cloris and Susan next.
Brooke is blowing me away – does she have any previous dance training at all? She’s amazing. I liked her and Derek’s jitterbug better than Julianne and Cody’s – but that’s potato/potahto, I think.
Lance was definitely a mess this week – not sure whose fault that was. I’d had him picked for final three, now I’m not so sure.
It was fun watching all the pros wrestle with dances they don’t know how to do – glad they’re adding a few new dances to the mix. That’s one place where SYTYCD has always had it all over DWTS – more types of dance.
Do you think we’ll find out why Len is off next week? Must be something major.
Although, amazingly, Cloris wasn’t even in the Bottom 2.
We’ve had an intense dislike for Lacey Schwimmer since SYTYCD, and the judges noticed the same thing: her choreography is all about her, not her partner.
It was interesting to hear Len admit that he would never give a 10 to a jitterbug. I wonder if he wasn’t consulted (or was outvoted) on adding the new dances?
I assumed it was just a scheduling conflict – since he and Bruno fly to London every week to judge the British version.
Yeah, but since that’s standard scheduling, why would that suddenly be a conflict? My assumption was that it’s something medical, since he’s, yanno, old. (Or “old” – turns out he’s only about a decade older than me, and god knows I’m not old.)
Cloris continues to garner votes based on persona, not performance – that’s got to come to an end soon – right? right?
Not if I have anything to do with it. I watch DWTS to humor my girlfriend. It’s not a show that I would ordinarily watch. Cloris entertains the hell out of me and I give her every vote that I can under the rules. This is my third season watching the show and prior to now have never voted at all.
It’s clear that you and I have different taste in what we consider entertaining.
If I live to be 82 with all my faculties and can walk around the block with ease, let alone be doing what she has been doing, I will consider myself to be very, very fortunate.
I don’t give a crap who is the best dancer or who has improved the most. I just want to be entertained and for one with this show, I am.
Didn’t mean to offend – I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I come to the show as a fan of dance as an art form, and Cloris’s connection with that is somewhat tenuous. (I’m a tap-dancer myself, and those are folks who are well known for being active and creative well into their 70s and 80s.)
I enjoy watching Cloris. She has a joie de vivre about her that I find inspiring. As opposed to Jerry Springer, who practically begged to be voted off each week, she really wants to be there.
The judges’ dislike for Lacey is a bit distracting. It’s not Lance’s fault that she didn’t give him enough to do.
Susan Lucci’s dance was completely amateurish and uninspiring. Warren rocked it.
I kind of like to see how the choreographers are struggling outside of their element. Cheryl telling Maurice that he was lazy was priceless.
Toni was blah.
Cody did okay but I just can’t get over his juvenile demeanor.
I’m very curious as to how Cloris is going to handle hip hop next week. And didn’t they say that was going to be a “group number”? If so, they’re going to have to take her abilities into account when choosing the steps. Should be interesting, if nothing else. Or did I hear all that wrong?
Maybe in addition to Len’s other job, he’s making a protest of things like hip hop being included on the show? He’s got that ‘purist’ streak in him.
Personally, I’m routing for Warren all the way. I want to meet that guy in person. Bet he’s fun to hang out with! It’s amazing that someone so mean on the field could be so much fun on the dance floor.
Me too. And, in an irrelevant note, I’ve noticed that whenever they show clips of Warren playing football, it’s always from his college days (at Miami), never from either of his NFL teams. I conclude from this that they didn’t get permission from the NFL to use their logos.
Why do you think that is? Why would the NFL object to the plug?
Does anyone remember whether previous football players have had NFL footage? I remember they did one of their “mini field trip stories” about going to the stadium and working out with the footwork-through-the-tires thing – don’t remember what season/player it was, though.
Hm. Makes sense. That would recall the previous clip that I so vaguely recall – the stadium could be IDed (if it was) without using the precious words “NFL.”
