Dang...LiveJournal is down

Naveen Andrews From The English Patient, Kama Sutra and currently, Lost.

Who’s totally into older women (yay!) and has been in a hot-and-heavy thing with Barbara Hershey for several years (booo!).

Icon: Can’t decide. Either Dom Monaghan w/angsty lyrics or Pirates with an anacronistic pop culture reference.
Mood: Disgruntled
Music: I got troubles oh but not today. They’re gonna wash away. They’re gonna wash away.

Okay, there’s a plus: I can make my “music” entry as long as I want. Another plus: Uh…nope. I got nothin’.

And now, a generic Junie post to make up for the dozens I have not made in the last 24 hours:

There. I feel better.

Why oh WHY did livejournal’s servers crash? As if life wasn’t bad enough already, something shitty like this has to happen, and I’m left with nothing but a few band message boards, and this… THIS STRAIGHT DOPE MESSAGE BOARD THAT I LOVE OH SO DEARLY BUT IT’S JUST NOT THE SAME! No, it will never ever be the same. Livejournal was so much easier for me to connect to people, and it was so much easier to catch up on my friends’ lives. All I had to do was click on my friends page, and I could read what everyone has to say! Here… here, I have to click on thread after thread after thread! Why me? Why does the universe hate me so much???

Oh well.

In other news, I dyed my hair black. The colour I bought was technically “indigo” but I think because my hair’s naturally black, it just blended in and made it look really dark.

We just bought two gerbils. They’re a pair which were being sold together because they’re so attached, no other gerbils could go in the cage with them and they were irritable without each other. One’s black, and I’m pretty sure that’s the female; the other’s albino and I’m pretty sure it has dem cojones. The black one’s missing half of her/its tail because of aforementioned problems with other gerbils.

If they were just mine and not the family’s, I’d give them the surname “Server” and name them “Mail” and “File.”

<3 LJ.

Actually, this is probably a good time for me to not have access to LJ, as I haven’t done any serious writing in well over a month. One less timewaster for me to waste time on.

Yet I’m still not writing. Funny how that works.

Are you breeding gerbils? If you really got a pair of mismatched sex gerbils I hope you have homes for all the babies. They breed really fast. :frowning:

You have rats too? Are you member of rattiepix? I love me some rattie pictures… especially the babies when they’re right around 4 weeks old and start getting really brave.

I keep a bunch of pics of mine on the intarweb (bottom of page).

jinwicked: Whad’ye take me fer, a fool? :stuck_out_tongue: I asked at the place where I bought them - NOT a national chain - and they said they’ll gladly take any babies 6 weeks old+.

I’ve wanted a rat, but we really don’t have the room to give one the kind of home it needs. So…gerbils.

You get comments???

Mood: cold

Back from Wisconsin! I totally made out like a bandit. I got three new sweaters (J. Crew was having a kickass sale), a new kitchen knife, and Eva Luna and I went to…THE CHEESE CASTLE. All hail the cheese castle! I got 4 year old aged white cheddar, some curds, and red pepper jam, so feel free to envy me. On the way home we stopped at a bakery in Skokie and got Jewish baked goods. I have rugelach. AND cheese. Although I probably won’t consume them together.

Tomorrow I think Nancy and I are going to see the bug movie at the Museum of Science and Industry. Amazonian bugs on a six story tall movie screen! This going to be totally awesome. Also, we might check out the jollyball. Why don’t I get to have my own jollyball? Cause that would be rad.

And now I think it’s time to make a cup of Canadian cranberry cider and watch a movie.

mmmm, rugelach.

Vince and I went window shopping in Sur La Table this afternoon, after having lunch at High Tech Burrito (yuppy central.)
We also traded in a bunch of paperbacks, and picked up some new ones.

I finally had a Chantico. Chocolatey goodness indeed.

We’re relaxing at home in peace and quiet (no kids, they’re out and about) until 7ish or so. Then we’re out for date night to the movies to see Hotel Rwanda.

I should wait until I finish the book I’m reading about those events, but I won’t.

What the hell!!! Kicking field goals is your only fecking job, how can you miss two 40something field goals? HOW???

I’ll share! In fact, if my Peace Corps recommender doesn’t write that goddamn letter soon, I may be in Sonoma soon enough to kick her ass.

And then we can eat rugelach and go to boobie breakfast.

And just when I had gotten off my ass to join the “Getoffyourass” community.

Looks like it’s about to be put back up. I can get to the actual website now but am still getting a database error.

It’s up now but slow as hell. Probably overwhelmed by everyone trying to log in at once.

Of course the cluster I’m on (Filet Mignon) won’t be back up until tonight.

Argh!

Oh well.

Well, just be careful. It’s good they have a place to go, but when the males and females stay together it’s pretty common for the female to be pregnant again literally as soon as the babies are weaned. At least I know this is the case in mice and rats. I’m pretty sure it’s the same for gerbils. Letting them breed constantly also really stresses the female and could impact her health. Their gestation is a bit under a month and that could end up with you having close to or more than 100 gerbils a year, assuming all of them live and don’t get cannibalized or stillborn. I hope whereever you got them could at least guarantee they aren’t related to each other and that they are of decent lineage, otherwise you could just be giving the store back a lot of gerbils that may or may not make suitable pets.

I apologize, and I’m not trying to be snippy, it’s just I have a great affection for small animals, and it already breaks my heart to go to pet shops (small ones and places like PetCo, a lot of the mom & pop places can be even worse) and see tons of small animals that are old, sick, uncared for or obviously unhandled because they don’t have enough homes to go around and the shop employees don’t have time to spend handling all of them every day. I actually have rats and mice right now, but when my mice die I am thinking about getting a pair of gerbils to take their place. There is a really good message board called Pets Hub where you can go and find out almost anything you’d need to know, though. If you don’t already know about it, it’s very useful and the people there are generally friendly, helpful and can answer almost anything.

If you do ever decide to get rats, check out Martin’s Cages online… they make a huge variety of cage sizes and footprints, so you can get one to fit almost any space. For the quality of the cage, the size, and design, they’re much better & cheaper than what you get in the big box stores too.

Sorry again for being nosey.

If it makes you feel better, I have to wait 8 more damn hours before my freakin’ cluster is back up.

looks at the flashing pencil in his system tray

tries to check LJ

You lie, Semagic. Nothing’s changed since the last time it said something about having technical difficulties.
