Dante's Action Hero Mafia

To be completely fair, sangfroid usually isn’t able to get online much until late evening or night.

Day 4 - New York City
Karl made his way back to **Hans **at the abandoned building and saw him gathering up there equipment - what little of it they had between them.

“I just rid us of another nuisance, Hans, so why are you packing?” he asked.

Hans never even looked up, “McClane is dead, which is a blessing, but we lost Theo and from what I have been told from some of my sources, the police now have help from the CIA.”

“The CIA?”** Karl **repeated with no sound of concern in his voice. “Hans, please, since when have we ever worried about the odds.”

“I’m inclined to agree with you, Karl, but considering the fact that our main goal of disrupting McClane’s life has been taken care of, I say we call it a win and leave now before our lives are *disrupted *as well.”

Karl continued staring at **Hans **for a moment, then reluctantly grabbed their bags and packed them into the car parked behind the building. Hans soon joined him and within minutes they were driving downtown towards the expressway.

They had stopped at a traffic light a few blocks from the expressway entrance when a police cruiser pulled up alongside them on the drivers side. The cars window went down and the officer looked towards them nonchalantly. He paused for a moment as he soon recognized their faces. Before he could speak, the traffic lights began to change.

**Hans **spoke up, “We do not have time for this, just go Karl.”

Karl stomped on the gas and pulled ahead, the police siren starting up behind them. Before he could get up to speed, however, a large semi truck pulled into the intersection and stopped effectively blocking their path. The driver waved at them with a big grin on his face.

**Karl **yanked the wheel to the right and sped off the other direction, dodging traffic as he went and evading the police as well. They made it through two more intersections before they were rammed on the passenger side by a city bus. Their car tumbled through the air and came to a stop on the edge of an embankment to an underpass. The car slowly rolled down the hill on its tattered wheels and came to a stop.

Karl had blacked out for only a second or two and came to just as they stopped on the road for the underpass. He looked over at Hans and cursed to himself as he saw that he was dead, his head lying limp to the side, blood running out of his ears. Karl slowly climbed out of the car as his leg was badly hurt having smacked against the steering column on impact. He groaned and cursed under his breath and limped away to an adjacent road out of sight of the spectators above. He looked over at their car and then back up at the city above.

“This is not over,” he sneered, hobbling his way to cover under the blanket of the oncoming darkness.

Hey, look, there’s action in the Forbidden Thread! Hi, Tomba!

*Night 4 - New York City ***
Shuffling through the darkened streets of downtown, Karl was working on adrenaline and anger alone. Hans and Theo were both dead and he was all that was left to enact his own personal revenge. He had wanted to get back at
McClane **for stringing him up by a chain years ago, but alas, that did not go as planned. Even snapping the neck of that other mouthy cop was not enough to satiate him, for now he had own agenda and as he came to the corner of one street, he saw his newest prey.

Pulling up to the convenience store, Jack Burton adjusted his cap and stepped out of the truck cab, walking into the store entrance. He grabbed two frozen burritos and tossed them into microwave.

“Hey pal, you know any good bars around here,” he asked the clerk.

The young man behind the counter looked up at him with a grin, “That depends on if you’re going to be drinking or taking in the view, if ya know what I mean.”

Jack smiled and chuckled, “Well to be quite honest probably a little of both.”

“Then I’d go to The Cheshire Cat over on 9th avenue. Scenery’s pretty sweet.”

“Sounds good to me,” **Jack **said as he paid the clerk for the burritos.

He grabbed his dinner and walked away and the clerk called out.

“Hey! Your change, man.” he yelled as he tossed a quarter at Jack.

Turning and snatching the coin out of the air, Jack pocketed it and continued towards the door.

“Nice catch,” said the clerk.

“It’s all in the reflexes,” answered** Jack **as he left.

Standing off to the side of the semi truck, Karl waited as the man climbed into the truck cab. He walked around to the otherside and grabbed a hold of the passenger door handle and wrenched it open. He climbed inside, his pistol ready, and sat down next to the driver.

“Pull the horn,”** Karl** ordered, aiming the gun at the man.

“The hell?” Jack Burton said.

“Pull it now, or I make the shot hurt,”** Karl** answered.

“Look pal, I don’t -”

“Pull it!”

Jack reached up and yanked on the horn chord just as **Karl **pulled the trigger. The air horn blast covered the sound of the gunfire and the sound of glass breaking as the bullet left Jack’s skull and hit the driver’s window.

Karl switched sides with the dead driver quickly and started the truck, leaving the store parking lot and driving off to continue his plan.

It is now Day 5. There are 2 votes required for a lynch. The Day will end on Sunday at 12pm EDT. I will end it earlier if there is enough of a consensus and I can get computer access. Your suspects are…

  1. Prof. Pepperwinkle
  2. Astral Rejection
  3. Hooker Chemical
    Play on, players!

You must have commuted me with your power, Prof. P. Now you know Hooker is the final scum!

VOTE HOOKERCHEMICAL.

I was out of gas last night, so nobody was transported.

VOTE KARL.

That should settle it.

Wait, this was an option all along?!

VOTE ASTRAL REJECTION

Prof P., does that mean you have a limited number of commutes, or that you chose not to commute somebody?

I’m just wondering where Barney Ross is. I phoned him days ago, but he still hasn’t arrived. Oh, well, I guess he’s expendable.

My limitations were: I could only do it three times, and I could only transport an individual once. On the first night, I transported Astral, and no one died. Later I transported Hooker, and someone died. That’s as straightforward as you can get.

UNVOTE KARL.

VOTE ASTRAL REJECTION.

[Looking forward to the bang-up finale narration!]

Wait up. UNVOTE ASTRAL REJECTION.

I just want to give the thread another solid readthrough.

There are two ways to consider Scum’s kills:

#1 is the usual way of each Scum voting, with the target dying unless someone intervenes. We have received no word from Dante that this isn’t the case.
In that case, Astral has to be Town.

#2 is the idea that Karl is the designated killer, and only he can kill. (It would be likely that Theo or Hans would gain this ability in the case of Karl’s demise.)
In that case, Astral has to be the killer, and was prevented in the first instance, but not in the second, while Hooker has to be Town, as he was transported and a death still occurred. This option didn’t even occur to me until Tomba pointed it out.

So the real question is: how much did Dante tweak the game mechanics?

You’re forgetting option #3: Scum can choose any one of their members to kill, and the color assigns it to Karl for storytelling purposes. Dante’s color has been unusually descriptive this game, but (speaking only for myself), I’d never design a game that could be truly solved by reading moderator posts and not player posts. Your mileage may vary.

MOD NOTE
For the sake of fairness, Professor, I choose not to answer that question. Not saying you were looking for me to say one way or the other, but I just wanted to let you know I’m keeping an eye on things.
