the intention is to create a simple, open and fast game. there will be no colour. read and sign-up below and we’ll start as soon as we fill all the spots.
GENERAL RULES
posting: Night time strategy in this thread is not permitted; Day time strategy is not permitted outside of this thread; dead players may not post strategy
voting: you may vote as often as you like, but only the most recent vote is counted; vote in bold/blue using the player’s full name (eg. vote fubbleskag); un-vote in bold/red using the player’s full name (eg. unvote fubbleskag); explicitly un-voting is not required unless you intend to cast no vote at all, as vote changes automatically imply a un-vote of the previous vote.
the lynch: the player with the most votes at the end of Day will be lynched; in the event of a tie, there will be no lynch; if the number of non-votes, explicit or otherwise, is great than the player with the most votes, there will be no lynch.
night actions: night actions can be submitted via PM at any time; the most recently submitted valid night action will be used.
questions: undoubtedly I’ll have overlooked something at some point; feel free to ask any questions in the thread in bold/green or via PM
GAME SETUP
# of players: 7
role mix: vanilla town (3), town doctor (1), town cop (1), mafia goon (2)
Not signing up, but if I may make a suggestion? Start the game with Day, not with Night. I recommend this for two reasons: First, if you start with Night, then there’s going to be someone who signed up but who never gets to play at all, which is kind of unfair. Second, with this particular setup as it currently stands, Scum is pretty heavily favored (my best calculation is somewhere over 70% chance of victory), but if you started with Day, it’d be more like 52-48.
I’m aware of the chance that one player will not get to play, twas a conscious decision. also, scum needs to outnumber, not equal, town for their wincon. this particular setup balances 50/50 in over 100,000 real life playouts.
Officially, yes, but in practice, no. With a tie being no lynch, once the Scum reach equal numbers, they can just force no lynch during the Day and win the following Night. The only case where it would make a difference would be if the last two players were a Scum and the Doctor, and they entered a stalemate where neither can kill the other.
That said, my calculation was based on the assumption of equal skill on both sides. If this exact setup is really that well-tested in real games (where might one find records of this, btw?), then that suggests that real people are actually significantly more adept at playing Town than they are at Scum, an interesting result.
sorry NiceGuyJack and ToeJam - but this game should only take about a week to play out and I’ll probably run another one quite soon if it doesn’t suck. (I’m curious to see how this format translates here, if at all)
