Dante's Mafia Sign Up Thread

Starting a separate thread for sign ups and I will also have a thread for the actual game because thats just how I like to run my games. Figured I would get the sign ups started now, so I can begin getting the opening narrative ready based on the number of players signing up.

So sign up if you wish to play. The game story will take place in the* Die Hard* movie universe, with the main difference being that the other heroes featured that are from different action movies, all exist in the Die Hard universe as well. I want this to seem as realistic a scenario as possible, so as to not have some crazy sci-fi explanation for all these characters existing together. I also took some liberties with some of the villain characters featured to make them alive in this game, even if they had died in their respective movies. More info will be revealed as the game story progresses. Hope you all enjoy!

Begin signing up …

sign me up

I’d like to play, please!

Suburban, maybe we can have another game where it comes down to you, me, and a scum?

OK, so far…

  1. Suburban Plankton
  2. Astral Rejection

Wow, that takes me back…my finest Mafia moment, I think (which may not be saying a whole lot). Unfortunately, I’m 48 years old now, and I’m not sure my heart would stand up to another game like that.

[You might want to put up a notice thread in The Game Room. I’m not going to have the time to play a second round, but I’ll be watching. Good luck.]

I made mention of it the Forbidden Thread. We’ll see if that is enough.

In please.

More data please. What kind of setup will this be?

More data?

OK, well, standard mafia game. Heroes vs villains. No fancy game mechanics. There will besome power roles but nnothing to complex. I will explain more as I wish. Don’t want to give away too much yet.

Sounds like fun but my wife would kill me if I sign up to a Mafia game again any time soon, so I must pass. Have fun all!

I’m in. Will the tempo be the same as the current game (i.e. real days per game day/night)?

Well, I like to make my days and nights run in a somewhat real time aspect, but I know you guys are used to longer day/night sessions, so I’ll probably compromise a bit. I will start the first Day phase on an early Monday morning and have it go until the following Tuesday evening. Night phase will go from Tuesday evening until Wednesday evening, then I will post Night results on the following Thursday morning and start the Day again. This is a longer duration for each cycle than I am used to, but I figured it would be ok with you guys. I used to run my games with Day starting in the early morning and ending that same late evening and then starting over again the next day when all Night results had been sent in and then just work from there. A game with about 12+ players lasted about 2 weeks. Maybe a little longer, depending on player activity.

oooffff, sorry will have to jump out, probably won’t be able to contribute sufficiently at that pace.

Well, don’t back out so soon. I can always stretch things out a bit longer if needed. Maybe a 3 day long Day phase. I’ll probably just play each phase as it progresses. If everyone has voted and said their piece, I’ll probably end the phase. I can wait until everyone has had a chance to speak and vote. Same with Night phases. I’ll let that go until all abilities are sent in, unless it is dragging on and on.

I can work with you guys and your schedules, I just don’t want to drag things out too long. I prefer to have the game go a little faster.

I’m fine with a quicker pace. My contributions will be limited during the 8a-5p time, when I’m (supposed to be) working. That’s when I make my most bone-headed contributions, because I’m following along on mobile and firing off quick, poorly-considered posts.

I strongly suggest that you don’t go with ‘flexible’ Day/Night lengths. Personally, I’d prefer 3-day Days to ensure that everyone has the chance to work around their schedules and make some good contributions, but if they need to be shorter, I can work with that. But I think it’s important to have the durations clearly defined ahead of time.

I see your point, Sub.

Yeah, I’ll stick to a 2 day long Day cycle. I think that should work for all. If you can work with that pace, sign up. If you can’t, don’t. If it turns out that very few people sign up based on the length problem, then I can adjust before the game starts. I would like to still get 16 or more players. I think that’s a good number to work with.

I’m still in for a two RL day=1 game day cycle, but I think a 3:1 ratio offers the advantage of never having a weekend cover the whole game day. This may only be a consideration for me because I tend to avoid SDMB on weekends and read it primarily on weekdays. Still, if I’m in game, I’d be more mindful about checking on a weekend.

I’m in, as I said in the Forbidden Thread. I like the idea of a somewhat quicker pace.
