Daredevil on Netflix viewing thread (open spoilers)

Actually, Wesley being from Latveria, or a child of Latverian immigrants, would be kind of cool. I’ll miss his polished amorality, but the story is better because the writers had the courage to kill him off.

As for the gal at the Bulletin - I sort of assumed secretary, too, but she might have been a reporter, there was nothing that said she wasn’t. As for what she could be charged with… aiding and abetting? Accomplice to anything Fisk was doing that was illegal that she failed to report? Income tax fraud for failing to report bribes as income?

That’s what I was going to say. They could charge her for just about anything they could pin on Fisk, as leverage to make her roll on whoever her contact was in his operation. (Probably the deceased Wesley, but still.)

I skipped to the end because I haven’t finished the series and don’t want any spoilers. I’ve got only 5 episodes left in the series and have been unspoiled so far.

I really like everything about the show EXCEPT for Wilson Fisk. He is a startlingly uncharismatic and uninteresting villain. Every time they go into anything about him I roll my eyes. His backstory? Cliché and trite. I find the Asian grandmother to have more menace than he does. He is just a brute and a bully and I hope his role ends at the end of the season.

I love Matt Murdock. I like the show, but man, is it dark.

I’m glad they just went ahead and tied up that loose end, though it didn’t seem like that was a connection they would likely have swooped in on any time soon. And it oddly makes the actual guilty party a passing thing, whereas the editor’s beard of guilt and shame continued to haunt me long after I realized it was not because he had directly caused his old friend’s death.

She knows Ben Urich is trying to write a story exposing murderous crime lord Wilson Fisk, and she passes that information on to Fisk. She has to know Fisk is going to go after Urich, which I believe makes her an accessory. And that’s assuming all she did was pass on to Fisk word about what sort of story Urich was writing. If she was also giving him stuff like Urich’s address or schedule, it’s going to be even harder for her to pretend she didn’t know what was going to happen to him.

She also might not have broken any law at all. Her name came up during the investigation, the cops pick her up, turns out she’s a dead-end, and they let her go. Dramatically, the point is to tell us that the Editor guy wasn’t a villain after all, but Urich’s instincts that there was a mole in the Bugle were still accurate.

The history nerd in me loved, loved seeing Robert Caro’s biography of Robert Moses “the Power Broker” in the final scene between Urich and Fisk.

Yeah, Caro was just the kind of guy Urich would love and yeah, Fisk of the TV series was very much like Robert Moses if Moses was a comic book super villain.

It also worked with the gentrification theme of the series.

On another note. I loved that they never referred to Fisk as “the Kingpin” and never referred to Leland as “the Owl” referred to “the Greek girlfriend” rather than Electra and didn’t refer to Bullseye as “Bullseye” when he makes his cameo.

I kind of was hoping that they would end the season still not referring to Matt as “Daredevil”.

Sort of like his several seasons into Arrow the phrase “the Green Arrow” has yet to be uttered.

Anyone else feel that way.

I originally thought she’d be tied to Ben’s murder, except according to Matt there was zero evidence found at Ben’s apartment. I suppose if the cops/DA could get some of Fisks drivers/guards to roll over and testify to driving him there. Plus I can’t see Fisk being the one to scrub Ben’s apartment himself.

I suppose it is a short hand way to confirm the editor wasn’t crooked, and was just doing his job. (Doing his job properly IMO, with regard to not publishing that last story.)

I had been hoping Matt would have chosen the name himself, but it became obvious they weren’t going with the bullying angle from Matt’s childhood that inspired the name in the comics.

I wonder if the red suit will ever be retrofitted with the DD logo?

Nice. Hadn’t noticed, but will have to go look back. Thanks.

They do call Fisk “The King” a few times though. I suppose to mirror Matt being called “The Devil.”

When did Bullseye show up?

I was wondering that, too. Maybe the sniper who starts shooting cops while Matt’s holed up with the last Russian guy?

It’s a quick shot, but there is an ace of spades in his bag. Some posit that is a Bullseye Easter egg.

Yes.

That’s what I was referring to.

This. I thought the guy with the bowling ball was going to be him, but then… I don’t recall any other candidates.

The sniper as mentioned above.

In retrospect, I should have been more clear because it was a subtle scene with a very quick shot of the Ace of Spades.

The article is about Charlie Cox wanting the second season to feature Elektra and maybe the Punisher, but it mentions that The Defenders will likely be pushed back until after the second season of Daredevil.

Something I’ve seen nowhere that kind of destroys the show: Didn’t Matt kill Nabu? His direct action lead to Nabu being set on fire and, therefore, dead. Matt’s whole character is based on not crossing that line. His conversations with the priest – about wanting to kill Fisk – were after that fight, too, so none of that made any sense to me.

Sloppy show.

To me it looked like the deflection might have been by chance. Or even if not, Nobu was the one who didn’t stop-drop-and-roll. He kept attacking, while on fire, until it was too late.

So I’m on episode 6, but I’m totally confused by all the antagonists and what their relations are to each other, and what they’re ultimately after. (I’ll readily admit I haven’t been fully paying attention).

Can anyone help catch me up to speed about them?
