I was doing the usual Top Blue/Top White loading on the 200. Of course there were add/cuts that were still showing in the package cars, which cause the one car to beep every time I brought in a package. Plus there was a double label that the one sup found, tossed in my other car, but didn’t remove the wrong label, so it beeped the other car. All this had me tripping over supervisors all sort. There weren’t any damages or retapes, so I was out right after the drivers left. I filled up Carmen, and did my Aldi run. Now I’m having my bowl of dry, flavorless bits(with milk and dried cranberries instead of death blueberries) and getting ready for a long nap, Spot willing.
I’ve never been to a Dark Sky Reserve.
At least it’s not shining like diamonds in Goatse’s ass. Which is not fucking fun to Google.
Welcome back, congrats on the new jobs, and {{{{Mom}}}}.
Aldi was crazy busy for some reason - almost as bad as a weekend. But I got what I wanted and it’s all home and stowed. In a little bit, I’ll make the filling for the twice-baked spuds, then get them wrapped and tucked into any crannies I can find in the freezer.
It still hasn’t hit 80, so the house is still open, but not for much longer, alas. C’mon autumn!!!
I’ll occasionally take a chance on a small print if it’s a one piece outfit, like a dress, but it has to be tasteful, not some gaudy big floral scheme. Most of the non-solid clothes pieces in my size tend to be obnoxious big splashy flowers. I’m already big enough-I don’t need to look like a floral warehouse explosion.
If there is a Kohls near you they have a good selection of basics like tops and pants and simple dresses, quite a bit like the quality and range of Penney’s but prices more like Target and less like a mall store. Easy return policies, etc. Their online offers a lot of great sales prices on those basic things like tanks, t-shirts, leggings. Kohls.com
Afternoon all. Shopping and sammich have both been completed and got a little more cash from the bank, even though I do use my debit card more these days, I still carry more cash than most people do. Guess I’m not a full 21st Century man. Probably will go to the gym in a bit but been watching my calorie count so less sweating needs to be accomplished and I’ll probably work out on the weights more. Other than that I am expecting a quiet afternoon (and yes, I am tempting Murphy, but I’ll take my chances…).
Taters, sounds like you had a good weekend. Family, dogs and sloth..doesn’t get much better than that.
red, hope you are out of that horse-pistol soon. Nappage is good anytime.
FCM, if she gets the Cello, you’ll have to teach her that old jinglr for Jello from some long-ago commericals…C E L L O…
So, the supervisors were OK?
Wet one, I have done that on rare occasions, usually notice when I need to use the restroom… Used to mix my brown and black shoes all the time, now they are mostly all black so just have to make sure they are the same style.
And guess I’ll get up and go over to the gym for a couple hours of exercise (and reading/scrolling, I am sure to take nice long breaks there).
I’m sure you’ve noticed that many plus size garments are cheap, shiny polyester fabric in gawd-awful prints. Yeah, I’d like to look like a badly upholstered sofa, thanks… Some manufacturers are getting better, but not nearly enough. I don’t mind larger prints in some geometric or abstract patterns, but if I choose florals, they’re itty-bitty flowers in subdued colors.
OK, enough goofing off - time to scoop out russet innards…
Yep. It’s a mystery why they do that. Sometimes shopping I just give up and go home if it’s all only that slick crunchy godawful exploded floral choices.
Sadly my sister loves to shop on QVC and her clothing gifts to me from there are unwearable unless they come with pilot ‘wide load’ warning vehicle to proceed me every where. Gah…..
They had some nice dresses, but I have learnt that I need to try it on to see whether I’d like it, and to try it on I need to be the right shape. I am not far enough in my journey to go to the store in the right shape for a dress, and besides, I’m also a little leery of the changing room. It’s like the bathroom, except people actually are naked in there.
I dunno it’s different in the US, but I can count the number of wimmin I’ve seen naked in changing rooms on the fingers of one foot. There’s normally just big curtains.
I reckon I could have slept through the whole of today, but I had to go in for The Meeting, which happens every two weeks and is when my supervisors apparently do their good cop/bad cop routine. I could have gone in late, but there’s a nice group of people I normally have lunch with and -although I have not been missing the canteen food- I have been missing the company.
I’ve been saying for ages that I think I’m going to run out of time and I’ll probably need an extension on the deadline (hopefully not a big deal, I have a good excuse) and today my supervisors finally agreed that it does make sense to ask for an extra month. I should have most of it done by the original deadline, but I can’t see how I’ll get the final editing done in time.
the weekend was. lots of lager snuggles. i bought a dragon skull from home goods.
sat. afternoon met a small group, went outside, stood on grass, and looked around for a good spot for a neighbourhood dog park. there are 3 locations that will work as electrical and plumbing are there already. i had to take zyrtec after. i am very much an indoor cat.
there were a few bouts of tidying.
got a thermometer for the office tank. mid 60’s. i reckoned on it being cold. the heater i brought in has it up to the mid 70’s now. the plants recovered a bit over the weekend.
i’m wearing hawaiian shirts this week. got to get in all of the “summer” wear before the season is over. today is my san diego shirt. accessories are items i purchased when i visited coronado and san diego.
happy birthday, asknott.
fcm, should roxie get a cello she could play the theme to jaws…
I’m with you both. Solids are also easier to accessorize.
If you need some decent quality cotton tees in plus sizes, check out Woman Within. I have some in sleeveless, short sleeve and 3/4 sleeve, scoop and vee neck and the best thing: the damn things are long enough. They wash up nicely, come in a ton of colors and prints and have frequent sales that cost ~$5 each. They’re my go to for casual tops.
.
If possible, choose one with some fully grown trees and room for at least two enclosures. Most of the dog parks in my part of town belong to doggy day cares, so we still haven’t found one where Nelson is a regular yet. It’s considerate of you to look at setting one up for the pooches in your neighborhood.
Looks like I will be in the clink for another day or two.
At the gym killing calories but will finish up in less than an hour and then stop at Culver’s for the later feed. Might also pickup a pint of their custard if the mood strikes me.
It’s 5:25pm and I’m still at work, but I’ll be heading home as soon as I finish this post. There are definitely Things I Should Be Doing right now, but to them I say " ."
I’ve never been to a Dark Sky area, but I’d love to someday! I’ve spent most of my life in urban areas, and my understanding/expectation is that I have no idea what “dark” really means. I expect to love it while simultaneously being just a little creeped out. Heh.
I don’t have much to share today, but upon getting home I might opt for Lego vs the TV room (and my MacBook) so I figured I’d pop in on day one of the new thread since I can.
Speaking of Lego, it’s nearly time to pick another background show to have on while I build. I’ve reached the point with The West Wing where I stop watching every episode – right after the China trip in S6, when it starts being mostly about the Matt Santos presidential campaign – so I’ll pick and choose a few more episodes and then move on. I like the one where CJ learns who spilled some classified beans; that’ll be among the last few I watch during this go-'round of TWW.
Cool!
Hearing that phrase always makes me think of the song by The Police…for way too long I thought they were singing “canary in a coma.”
OMG those were huge when I was also in, like, 8th/9th grades!
I do not approve!
My second-favorite instrument to hear solo!
(First is piano; a close third is trumpet.)
I…what…how?? And this has happened to Metal Mouse, as well?! I can’t think of a single pair of pants I own – even the pull-on ones, like the elastic-waist jeans I’m wearing today – where I wouldn’t immediately notice if I were putting them on backwards!
Warning: Elton John once called this the most homoerotic music video he’s ever seen.
As mentioned in the last MMP, I’ve spent many happy hours at an observatory in a dark city. And yes, P. Lowell was not the first one to see photographic evidence of Pluto. I need to stop depending on my memory when posting in the evenings.
We once had 20 acres out on the other side of a mountain from Phx and the skies there were pretty dark. Sometimes we would get in the CJ5 and drive over our mountain to the Tucson side and it was even darker.
Once I was out looking at the stars and watch a shooting star arc across the sky over me and then burst into pieces about ten miles away. I knew from the skyline where it happened and we spent/wasted SO many hours looking for the crashed UFO parts. Or a big hole in the ground with a glowing rock at the bottom. We’d a been happy with some Apache Tears, but never found anything like that.
However, our real dark skies were found on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. The south side has the roads and all of the viewing areas and camping sites. The north rim is only accessible with 4-wheeled vehicles or hikers. (or dirt bikers, bike riders or horses, OK?)
We bounced down 40 miles of bad road from Moab UT to get to the washboards of the trail road. There was no radio reception, the internet wasn’t a thing and we didn’t see anyone but our jeep group for two weeks.
Once camp was set, we would all sit out in the dark and talk while looking at all of the stars and colors of the night. We once set camp by the rim itself (no guard rails or anything) so we could stare into the abyss when it was fully dark.
That was seriously different.
So today I woke up bored and announced that I was going to go to Huntington and explore their consignment shops. Hubs worried about me driving that far (last time my shoulder got pretty owie after an hour) so came with me. He took us though a big state park (beautiful) and pointed out the Black-eyed Susans while telling me that they were one of the first harbingers of fall.
We looked around a cute place and I bought some silk flowers (autumn mix. I’d much rather be able to have fresh flowers but Hubs thinks that muzzling Jolene would be mean.) Then I realized that we don’t really need anything and I don’t really want anything, I was just bored.
We went to our favorite Mexican place and they changed their menu and recipes. (and prices) My favorite dish is now OK, would order it again if nothing else caught my eye.
They did have an expanded drink menu, one could get a 60oz Margarita for 35 bucks if one were suicidal. I had a Prickly Pear which was more of a green color than the expected pink. Not bad, I’ll try something else next time.
We went to the Art Museum so we could enjoy the conservatory. We got in for free again because we are vets, but I bought a yearly membership because we’ve never done that before. Here we are, all cultured and supporting the arts and all!
It is a very nice museum and has an entire room dedicated to WV glass that I always like to visit.
Hubs thinks that tomorrow they are going to increase my weight limit to 3 lbs and was looking for something I could use, but all of the suitable glass paperweights were to round for me to easily hold.
Hubs also remembered that we didn’t send NF a check for the flowers she bought for TC friend. I’ve been planning on getting NF a moonshine sample pack so tomorrow Hubs will go and restock our shine supply and buy a selection for her. We’ll send the check inside the package. (I still think NF lied to me about how much the flowers cost but that’s not a hill worth dying over.)
One reason I dislike that band. I’m never sure what language he’s even singing in, since he’s apparently too lazy to actually enunciate. Not a fan of slurry mushmouth “singers” who sound drunk/high on EVERY track, TYVM.
The kindle is dead. Still stuck on the last page I read. Iguess it didn’t like the spin cycle, amongst other things. Have ordered a new one.
Yay, I get to go to the eye doctor in the morning. Ever since my bad bout of stomach trouble last week, I have what I can only describe as a really complicated paper snow flake floating in front of my eyes. It’s purple, kinda see through, sometimes green. Also, everything the sun hits is white. Looks like the way movies shoot “Mexico” when they don’t do the sepia tint.
Kinda cool, but a little disturbing.
My back yard would be completely dark if’n I didn’t have the little twinkle lighs on. Only have them so’s I can find the dog. After the gas station down the street closes at 8, there are no lights around.
I managed to put my jammies on backwards the other day, err, night.
JtC I knew what that was going to be before clicking. It’s still cool. My favorite cello memory is seeing the Paul Winter Consort with their cellist…Wracking brain, shit must google…Eugine Friesen singing a solo with his cello. No words, just mood. It was a little show in a UU church in Winston Salem NC, ca 1997.
I thought the pants were a little snug around the right thigh, almost like they were twisted. But I ignored it.
I got to ride Ariel today for 7 minutes at the walk. She’s been off for 2 months due to a tendon injury. This riding is the beginning of Pony PT. I put the saddle pad on her and she turned and gave me THE LOOK. Truly. Not anthropomorphisising. Or however you spell it. I told her vacation is over. Did my heart and soul good to be with her.
