Dark Skies in the MMP

Good afternoon all. Afternoon time was spent at the gym, but the lying scale there said I had gained a pound since last week (to be fair, Monday is usually after much eating on Sunday and a large Jersey Mike’s sammich this morning, so it’s going to be my heavy day). So of course I went to Culver’s for a Butterburger and fries and also picked up a Pint of chocolate custard, of which 1/4 now resides in my belly. Soccer starts tomorrow so the long days reading and phone browsing at the gym are probably over for several months. Inside now and have no plans to be anywhere else.

Blue jeans and polo shirts are my usual garb, but virtually all my t-shirts have something written on them, I believe in giving my fellow Americans some reading matter…here’s a couple examples.

Nut, may the extension be approved sooner than later.

rocky, that’s a good thing you did, working toward a public dog park. We have a couple here and they are nice to have.

Oopsie, my bad, I didn’t have any backward pants, but I have had occasions where I had different color shoes on (and didn’t notice until I was at work).

JtC, never been to the North Rim (the South rim several times) and probably won’t make it in the years reamaining to me, but thanks for the description. And bored is not a bad thing if it makes you get out and about and do your PT so you can do even more.

Van Go, may the Kindle rest in peace. Hope the eye problem is something the Doc can treat.

Wet one, glad to hear you and Ariel got a little quality time together.

And need to put things where things are put. Back later.

Of course you did, those are a couple of very smexy young men and you also know that I like that sort of thing.

I could have posted this link, though. Its more hetro-erotic, though.

I am very concerned about your eye and am happy that you will be seeing someone tomorrow. Detached retinas are nothing to fool around with and early treatment is important for full recovery. (don’t look them up until after you talk to your eye doctor, m’kay?)

Oh yes! Horses have expressions, of course they do! I’m so glad you had that time with her and hope she recovers without too much complaining.

It’s hard to explain, but the sky was so dark that the bright star shine was enough to light our way to the composting privy. The sky had colors. Stars aren’t just bright points of blinking lights, they are little bits of color hidden by the atmosphere. When you get up into thin air, everything is clearer.

We don’t have many stars here. They have all moved and most of them are hiding behind the mountains and the forest.

I just looked at the outside temp and it is under 70F. time to open all the windows and listen to the night noises.

Howdy Y’all! Quality cee-mint pond time was had, followed by showerage, nappage, and day drinkin’. Sup was as yummy to eat as it was easy to make. Plus there’s leftovers for tomorrow. WIN-WIN!

MOOOOOOM I am sure you were just the picture perfect 1968 high skool girl! Skool has been in session here for about two weeks, I think. I know high skool football season started this past weekend.

Sticky_Buns Hope mom does get better. Glad MusicMan’s new job lets him have more time off. Hope the part-time gigs work out for you since they are what you want.

Cookie hopin’ for the best for your grandson as he adjusts to kolledge life.

Taters glad y’all had such a fun visit with your son. Snarkin’ at stoopid teevee is one of my favorite pastimes!

red any timeline for gettin’ sprung from the horsepistol?

WetOne I shouldn’t have, but that made me giggle.

Lily I soooooo want the “Be Weird” tshirt!

shoe the perfect dress to wear to a Summer weddin’, tea party, shower, or even out to brunch with the ladies!

JtC OH MY! I have a feelin’ RoxStar will not be learnin’ that piece.

Oh, yeah, how could I possibly forget The Dress. My BFF bought that dress and wore it to work several times before someone caught her and sent her home for the day.

OMG, story time here!

My folks raised my nieces and nephews while supporting my sisters and their drug habits and men.

Mom is still supporting some of them, I don’t bother to keep track anymore.

But, one of my nieces is married to a Mexican national who has been deported and can’t return to the US.

For what ever reason, his parents came to California undocumented and when the mom got close to giving birth would return to Mexico and have the children there. Then they would come back and raise the kids as Americans.

Frank was a Dreamer but got arrested for something so stupid that I can’t remember and got deported. Then he started coming back for niece and their daughter while working under the table doing landscaping work…but someone convinced him that smuggling drugs across the border would make him rich.

Well, that didn’t work hence the last deportation.

Now, niece left their daughter (who is a merican citizen) with Franks grandmother so she could move to Mexico and live in poverty with her husband. Husband doesn’t know how to live in Mexico and doesn’t even speak the language properly so jobs are not well paying and they are often at risk of being homeless if not for Mom bailing them out almost weekly.

Fast forward to now. Niece comes to Idaho to visit her bank card a few times a year. Pot is a felony in Idaho, but Idaho is surrounded by recreational states so sister and niece went to Oregon? and bought weed. Niece tossed the easily identifiable bags on the car dashboard and drove back across the Idaho border.

That worked as well as her husband’s drug smuggling attempt and she is now doing time in a work-release program in Boise. Every afternoon, she rides the bus to Mom’s house and then uses Mom’s car and gas to take Mom to doordash with her.

And its not my circus…

< dream involving a small yet violently aggressive wombat >
Up from naptime, having an Old Fashioned, cheeseburger, fries, and corn on the cob.

It hasn’t been cool enough to do that yet.

Is that you, Mork?

They didn’t irritate me into biting, so yeah.

The first one almost looks like The Partridge Family.

To be fair, real science doesn’t occur on a schedule.

To be fair I’ll be wearing Hawaiian shirts under my Packers sweatshirt before I put them away for Autumn/Winter/Fools’ Spring.

If the Medllin Cartel was run by Larry, Daryl, and Daryl(with spinoff: Cocaine Possum)

I admire your diligence!

Here, too. Forecast calls for a low of 58 Ferrets! WOOOO!! Which means more weeding in the morning before it gets too hot.

And it shall be CELLO! As I understand the program, 3rd graders spend the year of music class learning their instruments, and once they reach 4th grade, they become part of the string orchestra and get to perform. I hope she likes it - she’s a very musical child. I was always amazed that when she sang, she stayed on pitch - in my experience, that’s a rarity among kidlets.

Tonight, I watched Sweet Charity for the first time. The dancing was great, but then Bob Fosse was the choreographer. I love his style. Anyway, I got a lot of crocheting done while watching, but I think I’ll head to bed now.

Thay’s right. You’re too good for that barrel of monkeys.

Sounds like a floater. Sometimes they come as a natural part of aging, but stress like vomiting, coughing or spending a lot of time bent over can actually cause the same symptoms, but could indicate something more serious. Glad you’re getting it checked out.

Well, true to my promise, I have done nothing of consequence in the past 4 hours and will shortly retire to my bedroom for sleepage. But not before a late-night final.

JtC, sometimes I think God created human beings after a long night of drinking (to paraphrase the late Comedian Robin Williams). Not a good situation…

doggio, I haven’t had corn on the cob in a long time…just might have to pick up a few ears.

75F here and heading to 64F, so I might just shut down the AC and open up some windows tonight.

And that’s all I got energy for. Catch y’all tomorrow.

Happy birthday, knot!

:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Younger daughter took cello – don’t remember what year she started, but she kept it up through the end of junior college, then sold her cello

Spike just texted me. Apparently, someone had been leaving “packages” in the residence hall showers, and everyone on his floor might get a fine.

I informed him, as a Quaker and a pacifist, I would not condone a badly needed beat down, but needs must.

Seriously, what the actual fuck?

Why?

Just why?

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 67 degrees Ferret Height(19.444 Centipedes).

But if she drops it on your foot, will it be a cello pain?

We have signs in all the men’s rooms(and presumably the women’s rooms as well) “Do Not Put Paper Towels In the Toilets”, because that uncontacted tribe in the Andaman Island in the Indian Ocean has a better grasp of Western plumbing than my cow orkers.

I really wish I knew why Sacramento “drivers” appear to be utterly incapable of safe following distances. Minor erranding this evening, and whether I was on the freeway or on a surface street, I had someone pretty much trying to climb into my trunk entirely too much of the time.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/59f with a predicted high of 24c/75f and cloudy. Weather app says “The fucking weather is boring. Let’s talk about all of the fucking things we can make with kale.” That sounds like the subject for another MMP!

Nut I’m glad you had fun seeing The Cure, also happy to hear that the meeting went well and the supervisors had sense beaten into them. Did you get your early night?

Mollie Much as I like patterned tops (usually on other people!), I have not really found any that I think really suit me. Also, many of the more affordable clothing chains here use synthetic fabrics and I really need stuff that’s close to pure cotton so that it doesn’t make me overheat the second I put it on.

JtC sounds like you had a good day out, especially if Hubs did the driving so you could enjoy the scenery.

VanGo good luck with the eye doc! That does not sound like a good thing to be happening to your peepers.

WetOne Yay for Ariel time!

Yesterday was a fairly decent irk day, no major skip fires going on for a change. I helped a colleague out with some stuff and managed to get a few of my own little jobs finished. Logged out on time, did a load of laundry and got that hung out before I headed off to the gym. Came home to sort out the rubbish and haul the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection.

I was awake just before the alarm was due to go off this morning after a night of very odd dreams. The cats have been fed, the litter trays are clean, I’ve had breakfast and have just washed my hair. I also went out and hauled the biiiiig bin back to where it usually lives.

I went to the gym last night and have been persuaded to sign up for a class tonight at 5.30pm. That means I need to plan my non-irk activities around that. I get an hour for lunch on the days I’m at home so I’ll make tonight’s dinner during my lunch break, and make campus food when I am finished with irk, and before I head to the gym. That means when I get back, dinner can be warmed up and I’ll cook some pasta to go with it, and hopefully all will work out well.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 89, becomin’ partly cloudy this afternoon and then possibly rain later in the afternoon. We shall see. It’s laundry day and I can hardly contain myself. I also want to go to the really good local produce stand for some squishes, green beans, and possibly other stuff. I will do that early so’s I can get the really good stuff. Sup will be leftover jambalaya with a fresh sallit and garlic bread.

WetOne forgot to say this yestiddy, but yay for Ariel time!

JtC family just be. We can’t pick 'em, but we sure can rolleyes at 'em.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, laundry and other stuff awaits! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Do a$$holes need a reason? Some people have a somewhat warped idea of what’s funny.

There’s a short stretch of road near me where the speed drops from 50 to 40 to 30, then back again all within a mile because of a church, a cemetery, a couple of intersections, and a bunch of driveways that connect with a curving, hilly section that has no shoulder on either side. When I slow to traverse that mile, I almost always have someone trying to “urge” me on. They should be thanking me when there’s a sheriff’s car sitting ahead. Instead, I’m pretty sure they’re saying naughty words.

Today starts with 59 or 60 Ferrets, depending if you want to believe the website or the thermometer in my back yard. Regardless, it’s wonderfully cool. And we’re promise low 80s, which suits me fine. I plan to spend an hour or so yanking undesirables from among flowers and acceptable plants, after I clean up the trash bag from yesterday that Otis chose to tear apart. Dammit.

Daughter and her spawn will be here for supper, and she’ll leave the young 'uns with me for the night. That should be interesting. I’ll deposit Tobias at his school around 8 or so, then take Roxy to her bus stop, unless SIL’s MRI is done early, in which case, I’ll turn her over to her parents then come home.

But that’s for tomorrow. First I need to survive today and tonight. And weeding. And whatever else comes up.

Happy Tuesday!

Morning everyone. Up and working on coffee #2. I meant my second cup, not coffee and #2. [juvenile giggle]

It was 86F this morning when I got up, and yesterday reached 110 on our wx station. Unusual even for Texas. We have 4 seasons here (Mud, Hail, Furnace, and Football). We’re deep into the season 3 right now, and have to frequently water the foundation (ground around the house) to keep movement at a minimum. I know it’s time when the downstairs closet door sticks and won’t open. Weird, huh?

I hate this as well. While driving back to DFW Sunday afternoon, the driver of a new Porsche decided most of us weren’t meeting his standards. He swerved dangerously close to several of us, and nearly tagged my rear bumper tailgating me. Only seconds after swerving around me* and cutting off the cars to the left, a State Policeman swooped down like a raptor and lit him up. Yes, I cheered.
*I was in the right lane, but a line of cars to my left were passing a big truck up ahead. Porsche boy didn’t want to wait his turn.

As to the OP, I’ve only been in a few “dark skies” areas recently. Palo Duro, and Alpine, Texas. All were pretty amazing.

For recent stuff, we just found out what kind of dog Lucy is. According to a few experts, she’s (mostly) a Formosan Mountain Dog. I sent the pic in that link to the Missus, and she thought I’d just sent another pic of Lucy. The breed descriptions match her to a tee, also. Weird, that we just thought she was an undefined terrier mix until now. Until last week, every vet tech and trainer guessed a different breed.

Today? Just some accumulated small chores, and trying to coax the electricians to come back and finish the bathroom light (needed parts 2 weeks ago and they’ve finally arrived).

Hark! What yonder rumbling noise to my ears doth appear? Oh shit, gotta get the trash bins out. Good week to everyone!

Well, I had a completely new experience yesterday. After a wonderful dinner of pork loin, corn on the cob, and sliced local tomatoes, we went to a Mexican ice cream parlor. The flavors were hand-written, and I picked a flavor that looked vaguely familiar. The label said mango/(word I didn’t recognize.) I’d had mango before, and with echoes of Frank Zappa singing “I was born to have adventure” in my head, I got a cup of garish orange/purple striped ice cream. For the first time in my life, I ate ice cream I did not like. I bravely ate about half of it. My mom used to insist we “eat three bites” of food we didn’t want, and I surpassed that. It was dreadful, and it got worse with every bite.

How could this be? Ice cream and didn’t like cannot exist in the same sentence. I was rattled to my core. Eh, well, maybe not that big a deal.

It’s Tuesday, gotta wind the clock.
