I don’t think he’s a troll, not as we generally use the term. He seems to actually believe this stuff, as he seeks out crappy sources for his “arguments”.
He started out by being offended by my calling him “this David Wilson fellow.” Then he launched into a Pit rant (since closed by mod) about events from another message board in an attempt to trash Zaphod. He counters every issue raised by opponents with a lengthy quotation stolen directly from various agenda-driven websites. He counters other SDMB posters and longtime members by telling them outright that he considers their opinions irrelevant.
In the first thread, about global warming, he acts as if everyone who doesn’t agree 100% with his assertions is necessarily a moron, an anti-environmentalist, someone to be ignored and dismissed without comment.
In this latest thread, he exploits the tragedy of cancer to advance his radical ideas by posting a politically-charged list of things to do to supposedly cure cancer. He manages to suggest that the causes of cancer are air pollution, people who don’t stick to vegetarian diets, the dangers of inorganic foods, television, negative thinking, undistilled water, and ALL medicinal drugs. If this crank wants to advance his radical ideas, he is free to do so. Disguising them as health concerns related to a disease that takes millions of lives every year is just pathetic.
David Wilson, if you’re being genuine, then you’re a moron. My dog would make a bigger contribution to these forums than you have. If you want to live in your radical fantasy-land where anything that shows up in some agenda-driven author’s book is just automatically true, and anyone who disagrees with you is just a reactionary bigoted neanderthal, then crawl back up into the recesses of your rat-infested brain and stay there.
Just wanted to say that, looniness aside, Mr. Wilson seems to have a remarkably hostile and confrontational attitude for someone who believes that stress and “negative thinking” are Very Bad Things.
He’s an amusing one, I’ll give him that. He sure thinks very highly of himself. His typical MO is to bust a thread open with a bluster of windbaggery that would put most politicians to shame ('course, it’s now been revealed that he simply cuts and pastes from other webpages). He prattles on about his preferred subject, not seeking discourse or debate, but rather a pulpit. Then, when he gets answered that are not to his liking, he puts on airs about how his critics aren’t worthy to even glance on his most-glorious likeness, and pooh-pooh’s them away with his oh-so-intelligent rebuttal (consisting primarily of “No, I say I’m right, therefore I am!”).
When he’s consistently proven wrong and he runs out of webpages to plagiarize, he resorts to typical 3rd-grade behavior: “LOLOLOLOL [sub](side note: “Laugh out loud out loud out loud out loud… etc?” How dumb is this guy?)[/sub], your message board sucks, LOLOLOL.” It even gets more delicious when he accuses other people of being trolls.
I’m half-expecting him to mock someone’s poetry and top it all off with “SCORE!”
I have, from time to time, read other message boards. Heck, I still go over and read the Ms Magazine board from time to time. There are others as well.
And, from what I’ve seen the sort of actions DW is engaging in are standard issue for most other boards. That and apparently boasting about ones sexual abilities. There’s one hell of a lot of that.
So he’s behaving in accepted patterns elsewhere. What’s necessary is for him to make the breakthrough that (Thank God) this board is different.
I thought we’d hounded him away when he didn’t return to the global warming thread, after the 3rd and final time I warned him about coming close to crossing a few lines with his remarks. He posts only between like 5am and 8am, must be the Australia timezone and his work schedule. So this morning he opens up with this new thread, and my couple days of joy at the prospect he’d run off were dashed.
He’s probably conceited enough to construe that last sentence as meaning “Haha, they fear the truth of my words, but I shall not be going anywhere, foolz!” No, it’s just the fleeting picture of the joys that exist in a board without DW spewing his usual garbage. That I could so intensely dislike any person who has posted a total of about 30 times is surprising, you have to be pretty frickin’ stupid to convince me of something like that so quickly.
Anyway, I doubt he has the attention span to stay here very long. Eventually people will get tired of him, lose any hope that he can contribute to discussion, and from then on he’ll just be howling at the moon as far as we’re concerned. The only person who seemed to think DW had much to say in the first place was the_great_dalmuti, so he’s already in pretty lousy company.

I’ve lost one friend to cancer in the last few weeks, and am about to lose another. Thank you so fucking much for explaining how it’s thier own fault for not being as vego-eco-correct as they should be. Its not just a disease. Its not just bad luck. Its not just something shitty that happens to good people. Cancer comes from thinking Bad Thoughts and Not Eating Fruit. Gosh, what were my friends thinking? How ever could my friend Jane have been so stupid as to die of breast cancer? Or my other friend who has a rare and untreatable colon cancer? How stupid of him! If only he’d known David Wilson, he wouldn’t be almost dead and in incredible pain every day he has left on this earth.
So Thanks, David Wilson for letting me know what’s killing my friends. I now know who to blame: them.

Excellent post Rexdart, I second what squeegee said. I read through his Cancer thread the day he posted it and was sorely tempted to Pit the little pissant myself. Hopefully he’ll realise that he has to either start using the brains he’s obviously endowed with and make a contribution or he has to get out of Great Debates.

The way I see it, David Wilson can be decribed in one of two ways. He’s either 1- a troll, or 2- insane. I suppose he might even be both.

I think I would agree with White Lightning’s explanation. If DW’s posts were his own, I’d say that he was nuts or trying to be a nuisance… the simple fact that he can’t think of his own posts indicates a lack of intelligence.
