DC-area Dopefest - to meet Quasimodem!

As noted in this thread, Quasi will be in town for a conference from the 15th through the 17th of May.

Quasi, I don’t know where you and Dondra will be staying, but if you can let us know, then maybe we can arrange something nearby! Sunday evening the 15th might be easiest since people won’t be trying to get there after work, but let us know what your schedule is like and we’ll figure it out! Typo Knig and I will be there for sure.

Thanks, Mama Z

On Sunday from 4 until 9 there are meetings scheduled, but we’re free antime before or after then. However, we’re going to be there on Saturday after 1pm. Saturday there’s nothing going on.

We are staying at : http://www.omnihotels.com/FindAHotel/WashingtonDCShoreham.aspx.

Thanks again!

Q

Clearly, I vote Saturday night. I’m not going out after 9 on a Sunday.

Saturday would work better for us also. Pesky jobs, expecting us to be up and functional Monday morning…:p.

Locals who know Northwest: I know there are tons of places up around the Shoreham, but I know nothing about any of them. Being Saturday, we should probably try to go on the earlier side or we’ll have to deal with massively long waits.

Oh - if you guys prefer, Sunday brunch would also be an option.

Weekends are tough. Especially when you come back from a month long vacation, and start asking for days off! But, I will give some thought to it, anyway. The Sunday brunch works for me, as well.

Tris

The hotel is right next to the Woodley Park neighborhood, and there are a lot of restaurants there. It might be easier to meet Quasimodem in front of the hotel and walk with him to a restaurant. If we decide to eat at the hotel itself we could also meet him in front of it.

FWIW, right now I’m totally free that weekend and would be up for either dinner on Saturday or brunch on Sunday. I don’t know the neighborhood well enough to make any suggestions, but I’m not picky (other than not liking sushi).

I might be able to show up on the 14th or 15th, pending schedule cross-check with the lady. I haven’t been to a Dopefest in quite some time, hoo boy is there lots of catching up to do.

Or we could even link up in the hotel lobby, which might make us easier to spot. Quasi and Dondra might or might not be up for anything major outside the hotel, depending on tired they are from travelling. I know there are some food purveyors right in the hotel, plus as Wendell noted, lots of places a few blocks away.

So, are people still interested in this?

I definitely am! There’s a chance that Typo Knig may be taking Dweezil on a college visit that day.

Quasi had suggested we just meet at their hotel lobby and maybe get some drinks or whatever right there. Shall we say 5 PM?

Who all is attending?
Me
Wendell
???

Let’s target 5:30 to give Quasi a bit more time to get settled in. We can meet in the lobby. Anyone who’s interested in attending, if you PM me I’ll send you our cell phone numbers.

Right now we’ve just got
me
Typo Knig
Wendell Wagner
Ben? Misnomer? Tris? Ches? Any of you still thinking of coming?

Due to the circumstances described elsewhere there is a 90% chance I could not make it, but for that 10% chance I will pipe up and give a definite yes or no by late Friday.

Thanks

5:30 means I’m out, regardless of day, due to prior commitments. Oh well.

Mama Zappa and I had a very pleasant dinner with Quasimodem and his Mrs., just the four of us. We met at their hotel, walked around a bit, and picked a restaurant at random. We had a great meal and great conversation. I’ve always enjoyed meeting Dopers IRL, and last night reinforced that feeling.

Quasi, I didn’t notice you having any unusual memory issues during dinner. I know that was a short time, but if I hadn’t known about your diagnosis I would not have thought anything of it. Since you and your Mrs had spent the entire day traveling, I’d say that’s a pretty good day.

Welcome to the lovely, but overpriced, DC area. I hope you have some time for sightseeing. Your tax dollars went into the Metro rail system and the museums, you should enjoy them if you get a chance. OTOH, there can be a lot of walking involved, and the DC street grid systems are confusing even to long time residents. I said systems because it’s plural. There’s the classic North/South and East/West rectangular grid, with the diagonal streets overlaid. As usual, Wikipedia explains it better than I can: Streets and highways of Washington, D.C. - Wikipedia.

We had a great time, and I look forward to seeing you both next year, or sooner if the fates allow.

I apparently have worse memory problems than Quasimodem does. I just plain forgot about the get-together, and didn’t remember it till signing on yesterday at 6:30 PM. My mind is going, Dave. I can feel it.

Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer true . . .

I was heavily medicated at the time.

Seriously, my neuro-psych doc put me back on Namenda (now that I can afford it!), and I can sure tell a difference. It’s not a cure, but it’s a “slow-down”,

This was the first time D had met any Dopers (except here) and she loved y’all, and Mama Zappa, if I know my wife, she’ll be in touch with a sincere “thank you”.

Sorry no one else could make it, but if I am asked to come to DC again next year, maybe y’all can make it then.

Again, thanks for taking the time, you two!

Love

Bill & Dondra

Hmmm… Some might say that “heavily medicated” is the best state to be in when around us :D.

We had a great time as well - it was so lovely to meet both of you!
