What name will the tables be under? Oh dear lord, Falcon. Have you learned nothing from all these other meeting threads? The real question is “What names will be under the table?”
“Many count their chickens before they are hatched; and where they expect bacon, meet with broken bones.”
–Miguel de Cervantes–
Okay I think I have this picture linking thing under control now. Here is a close up map of the area around the CCBC. The black X marks the place you’ll be when you exit the Metro Center station. The red X is the CCBC.
If for some reason you don’t exit metro Center at 12th & G Streets, you may have an extra block to walk.
The reservation has been made: Saturday night at 8 p.m. I was hesitant to put it in the name of the DC Dopers, for fear they would wonder if we were going to sit at their tables & do drugs. I told them to call us the “Chicago Readers”, thinking this would be something we could all remember.
A few details: Smoking or non? Since I was pretty sure there would be a few smokers in the bunch, I said smoking. If there is a major outcry for non-smoking & you smokers can hold yourselves together or are willing to step outside to get your fix, I’ll call them back & change to non-smoking.
Next, with a group this large, they will add an 18% gratuity to the bill. They also asked that we please please please please order everything on a single check. I said only if they say “please”…
I don’t smoke, but I don’t mind the secondhand stuff at all; if anyone has a strong preference, I’ll go along. Great map, opus! Thanks for making the rez, too - the arrangements you made look great to me. Looking forward to being back in DC on Saturday!
No, sorry, only people with over 500 posts are allowed to attend.
Which is why I’m practically spamming the boards tonight…
Actually, no, I’m just bored out of my frickin’ skull. And casual posters should be perfectly welcome, so long as you’re not there to pepper the area with gunfire or something. What do I know? Am I in charge? I don’t think so.
As for getting there- if you’re coming from Wilmington, you’re probably best off driving directly into D.C. and finding a parking lot (I think parking’s free on weekends. Personally, I’m taking the Metro).
Take route 50 all the way in. 50 becomes New York Ave once you cross the DC line. Stay on NY Ave all the way through North East DC (Incase you weren’t aware, it says NW, NE, etc. on the street signs). Once you’re in North West, NY Ave intersects 11th Street one block north of the CCBC (in fact, NY Ave is the diagonal line in the extreme upper left corner on that map a few posts up).
A few people have dropped out, and it looks like a few have jumped on at the last minute, so I’ll leave the estimate at around 18 still.
It looks like there is a large, festering pool of apathy on the smoking issue, so no change will be made.
