I still don’t have lodging worked out, so if anyone isn’t afraid to lend a couch, floorspace, or a corner of a hotel room floor to a male stranger online - private message me. I’m an everyday guy who likes sdmb and Stewart/Cobert. I’m nobody scary or a pain in the ass, I swear.
I don’t know why I missed this before, but now that I have it concerns me a little…
Stewart’s event is a “rally”. Colbert’s event is a “march”. They are both at the some time. This is a pretty string indicator that we may have to choose between them for at least part of the time.
Hokay, finally some specifics for the Stewart rally. It will be at the east end of the mall, between 3rd street on the east and 7th street on the west, with the National Gallery of Art to the North, and the Air & Space and American Indian museums to the south.
I used to work at the National Gallery, and I know of a couple of good rally points. There is only one public entrance to the East building, which would be one choice. IMO the best one is a waterfall/water fountain between the two buildings.It also has a row of windows looking down into an underground tunnel between the two buildings. I suggest this spot because it’s pretty obvious and as we gather we won’t obstruct any of the museum entrances.
I’m updating this and splitting it into two lists, one for the rally, one for a Dopefest after. Please help me correct any errors or omissions.
Note (previous post) that there is now a specific location for Stewart’s rally, and I have made a suggestion for our own rally point. Please post any objections to it, or other suggestions of you have a better one.

Time of Dopefest?
My default thinking was dinner and drinks in the evening, which I think is still reasonable.
Anyone have thoughts about other choices, in particular something immediately following the rally, or even a breakfast/brunch before?
And if we stick with a dinner option, what time? 5-6-7-8-9 PM? How much time do you visitors want in between to do touristy type stuff? For the locals, how long can you keep yourselves amused between the end of the rally and getting food?
Question for locals – how late does the Metro run on Saturday nights?
Another subject – do we want to organize anything touristy for smaller Doper groups between rally and Dopefest? There was at least one mention of the Holocaust Museum upthread – any other thoughts? Or just leave this to individuals.
We will be right in the middle of most of the museums. I’m going to list a few that are not right on the Mall that people might want to see.

Very late. Officially closes at 3AM, but the time of the last train for each station will vary depending where it is on the line. Dead center (downtown stations) will be around 230AM.
I decided I’m going to stick with the hotel near Dulles, which means I’m going to be using the bus. Last bus out of L’Enfant leaves at 10:30, so I’d vote for dinner around 7 (or earlier if others want that) to give myself enough time to get back. If others want it later, that’s fine, I’ll just have to cut out around 9-9:30.
Depending on the state, there’s either pushing absentee voting or early voting.
Ok, the two rallies have been officially combined into one Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. No worries about missing any part of either.
Hi Jim. What time is the rally again? I am sure it’s up there somewhere, I am just lazy. Since I am local I really have no need or desire to kill time downtown between the rally and the Dopefest. Although if I have to, I will. I would say meeting exactly 1 hour from the end time of the rally would be good. But I am flexible.
We can also exchange cell numbers right before the day to be able to get in touch with each other the day of, to coordinate locations etc.
The rally is noon to 3 PM.
Some people want to work in touristy stuff either before or after. There’s a couple of places I want to see myself – the Spy Museum and the Dulles Annex of the Air&Space Museum, but I could work either or both in the next day. I’m not sure how many other visitors have that option.
I also have a party invite Saturday night – it’s a local arts community fundraiser somewhere along Florida Avenue – but I think that’s gonna go to 1 or 2 AM Sunday morning. So my biggest concern is energy conservation over a very long day.
I don’t have a cell. Maybe I’ll see if I can borrow one for the trip.
Boyo Jim, for what it’s worth, you could move me into the ‘reasonably certain’ column for the rally. Depending what’s going on with the fest, I’ll try to be more and more reasonably certain with that as well.
Judging by last night’s Daily Show, the two rallies will be the same. I expected as much.
Can we get some opinions here about when to get together for the Dopefest?
Do people want to go someplace immediately after the rally, or go off and see a museum or something before getting back together later in the afternoon or evening?
