Smoothie’s already asked Jacki if she wouldn’t mind sharing a husband…unfortunately for her, Jacki said ‘No’. Guess my wife still wants to keep me, even after my inflicting a whole houseful of Dopers on her!
Sara, we’re definitely going to have to get you in on the next one of these get-togethers. This is a cool bunch of people (and regardless of what Sqrl might say, he’s far cooler than I am!), and I bet you’d fit right in with us.
I think Jacki’s still a ways from actually posting here (or even choosing a username), but she actually read all the way through the threads about the party (both here and on Fathom, without any prompting from me. We may pull her in to Doping yet!
(The Firefly felines don’t post either, but they’re big-time lurkers. One or another of them’s almost always in my lap these days when I’m posting from home!)
And maybe I can talk her into coming with me to Falcon’s on December 10. Falcon, it’s on my calendar, that’s for sure!
GF & I will host a Dopefest after all her boxes are out of the way. She has decided to unpack one box per day so as not to feel overwhelmed and she has several of 'em! We’re shooting for Inauguration Day.
Note: GF is a recovering alcoholic so this will probably be the only non-alcoholic Dopefest. Either that, or people who insist on being able to drink can go out on the balcony with the smokers.
Just in case you were wondering, I for one have no problem respecting the needs and wishes of our host reguarding things like alcohol. We’re a crazy enough bunch that we don’t need booze to have a good time. Tell your girlfriend thar she has my complete admiration for finding in herself the strength to deal with a difficult issue.
I realised as I was driving home from RTFirefly’s that I didn’t have any alcohol all night, just Coke.
Anyway, if Anniz is here in the States in January, there will be a Dopefest at Chez Montfort, conveniently located in Rockville, MD. Maybe a Super Bowl party, I dunno.
Hey Jeff, I am also a recovered alcoholic, so if any DC Dopefests are held around Christmas-New Year’s (HINT, HINT) your GF and I can huddle in the corner and talk program while everyone else gets drunk!
My apologies if I sounded a little rude there, that wasn’t my intention. I have no idea when all, or at least most, of the boxes will be out of the way. My guess would be sometime in January. If it turns out there will be a Dopefest at Chez Montfort that month, GF & I could do ours in February. For those who don’t already know, we’re in Arlington, near Columbia Pike & Four Mile Run.
Jacki and I are going to be visiting her folks in FL over Christmas weekend, but we’ll be back in time for New Year’s weekend if anyone else wants to organize a shindig. But given that we’ll just be getting back from a trip, I think we’ll have to pass on hosting such an event.
Hmmm…whose arm can we twist into hosting a DC/Balt New Year’s Eve party? It occurs to me that there’s one poster who has lamented several times recently about missing too many Doper gatherings. If she (and hubby) hosted it, she’d definitely be there for it.

Actually, RTF, that’s a GREAT idea. Lucretia and Bluesman ARE centrally located in Ft. Meade. I second the notion that they should host the New Years Eve blast.
However…
I have never been one to hold people’s feet to the fire. Yes, that’s right, I’m a wuss, a pussy, a wimp,etc…Please feel free to lose all respect for me. That is why I would like to say that if L&B can’t host a New Years Eve party, I will. Thats right, y’all can ring in the milenium in a weird way at weirddave’s.
