DC Mini Dopefest?

Would any of you be interested in perhaps meeting up with me in DC somewhere on Sunday April 22nd? I’m going to be visiting my parents that weekend, and would welcome the chance to get away and … oh I don’t know… have some FUN? and to meet some more of you guys. I’m free all morning/afternoon that day.

So, how about it?

My God- I think I’m actually free that weekend. Sweet bliss.

Sure! Let me know where and when and what, and I should be able to make it.

Woohoo!

That’s all I can say for now, because there is no real plan yet - Weirddave, Falcon and I were thinking maybe a picnic lunch might be nice if the weather cooperates…

Any thoughts?

Anniz and I have that weekend open. Keep us posted.

I believe I have that weekend open. That would be not this weekend but next?

Sounds like a plan.

Add me to the list of people to keep informed. I’m free that day so count me in.

Ok wonderful!

Now for the plan.

Like I said, I am only free for lunch/afternoon. I am not sure where you DCers live, but since a few of you will be coming down I-95, perhaps something closest to that part of DC would be best?

Problem is I don’t know that area

So please fire away with suggestions, keeping in mind that subway access is a big plus.

Thanks!

I have no idea on where either…just tell me where to go!

I’m free that day, so count me in. How about doing dim sum in Chinatown? It’s on both the Yellow and Red lines.

Ok - Dim Sum sounds really good to me…

How does that sound to the rest of you?

Count me tentatively in…

I dunno on the dim sum. I’m not a big fan, ever since I had a REALLY bad experience with it out in San Francisco. :frowning:

However, I don’t have much to offer in its place…most of the restaurants I know are up in Maryland. Not sure if that’s too far…

Ok - how about Mexican?

There’s a pretty good Mexican restaurant in Bethesda called “Rio Grande,” if that isn’t too far for everyone…

Montfort says that “Rio Grande” is a very good place,
so that sounds fine to us.

Mexican in Bethesda sounds great, as long as it’s not too far form the Bethesda Metro station.

Goboy…IIRC, Rio Grande is around 2-3 blocks from the Metro Station.

Here is the best I could come up with:

Here is the street map. The subway station isn’t marked there, but it’s at Wisconsin Ave (Rte. 355) and the East-West Highway (Rte. 410), which is only a few blocks away. The location near Wisconsin is also easily reachable from the Beltway.

As I was looking for here, I found a really cool one by what appears to be Orson Scott Card himself. Very very cool, IMO!

and very little of that made any sense…

I was looking for reviews in that last bit

And I forgot to add that maybe we could meet at the subway station and walk there together. Just a thought.

I should be able to make it to this. What time on the 22nd do you want to us to be at the restaurant?

I’ve talked to Orson Scott Card at a science fiction convention about his review of The Amazonia Grill, but the reviews in Card’s website are a little old. The restaurant doesn’t exist anymore under that name. It closed and a Mexican restaurant called La Vida Loca opened up there. Then that restaurant closed and then it re-opened as a Brazilian restaurant again (with a slightly different menu from The Amazonia Grill), but they kept the name La Vida Loca. Also, the American Cafes, which Card also reviewed, have all closed.

I don’t feel like starting a thread to throw myself a 1000-post party, so let me just announce that this is my 1000-th post.

Happy 1000th, Wendell! Bluesman and I will have to miss this one, but you all have a groovy time, and hoist a few for us.
