DC/NoVA Dopers: Anyone want to see Aimee Mann tonight?

I have two tickets to see Aimee Mann and Michael Penn at the Birchmere in Alexandria tonight, and unfortunately, Peta Tzunami is quite sick. (Send her your well-wishes, BTW; she’s been in bed sick for two days.) I hate to have the other ticket go unused, so with her blessing, it’s open call for someone to go with me.

The show starts at, I believe, 7:00pm, and my tickets are at the will-call window. If you want to go, you can meet me at my office in Arlington and drive with me if you’d like, or meet me there. If you’ve never been to the Birchmere, it’s a really cool venue; the seating is all general admission at tables, and they have food and drink. There is no smoking, all the seats are good, and they ask for quiet from the audience while the performers are on stage. (It’s more of an acoustic venue.)

Aimee Mann, if you aren’t familiar with her, is the former lead singer of 'Til Tuesday who has had a decent indie pop career over the last 6 years or so. She did the songs for the movie Magnolia, and her song “Save Me” was nominated for an Oscar. Her husband, Michael Penn (yes, Sean’s brother) has had some good albums out as well, and also works as a producer and arranger. He had a cameo in Boogie Nights as the producer at Dirk Diggler’s recording session.

If you’re interested in going, e-mail me at work at phild@bizwire.com.

I am so sorry that Peta is sick.

And now I feel sick, nobody loves Aimee Mann more than me! Sniff. I hope whomever goes really appreciates it.

You don’t have to pay for the ticket if you go, but your food and drink are on you. Also, be warned that if there is a “meet and greet” afterwards, I intend to get autographs.

Shoot, Phil, I LOVE Aimee Mann and the Birchmere is not too far from my house. I’m up for it.

Awww damn! That sounds so cool! UDD and NIcky are both sick and I’m in a pain medication stupor from this damn tooth though. :frowning:

Hey, are you guys coming to my february thingie?

Shoulda clicked here a bit faster. 'Til Tuesday was of course a one-hit wonder, but it was a hell of a hit, principally due to the voice of the lead singer - whose name I didn’t know until after reading the OP, otherwise I would’ve opened this right away.

Enjoy, guys - and best wishes to Peta for a speedy recovery.

While I’m rather hit-or-miss on her solo stuff, I loved 'Til Tuesday, and I know that Anniz is a fan of her’s now that she’s seen Magnolia.

It’s too late to qualify for the ticket, and besides, we’d need two. It’s just as well, as we have to pack for our trip to Florida tonight.
