How’s everyone doing? I haven’t been able to come up with any food suggestions, but as long as it isn’t haggis or some kind of blood pudding, I think we’ll be alright. I’m still looking forward to this get-together! You wouldn’t mind if me & my tent squat on a piece of your yard/field? We thank you in advance.
activgurl, as long as it’s not a circus tent we should be OK. We’ve got an acre and a half and lose about 1/3 of it to the buildings so there should be room for you. Heck, you’re not the only one who’s mentioned wanting to camp on site.
Bear in mind though, I live right ON Route 9. You can camp withing sight of the road or behind the guest house (it’s not ready for guests) with a lovely view of the propane tank. Hey, the choice is yours…
Still looking for food suggestions. Otherwise I’m sticking with middle-american food, cold cuts, BBQ, that sort of thing…
A few quick vegatarian/vegan suggestions:
Obvious, but a big prepared veggie tray. Most folks will nibble on this anyway. If your freind doesn’t do dairy, then you may wish to serve an italian or other dairy-free dressing. It’s worth checking the bottle for animal indgredients.
If your planning on barbacuing, there are numerous brands of Veggie burgers and dogs, moi and I are fond of Moringstar Farms, but Boca makes a vegan burger that your freind should be able to eat. You may have to throw some tinfoil on the grill to keep the meat juices off them. (I’m not that picky, but some folks are.)
A pasta sald without mayo or dairy will probably pass muster.
We’d be willing to bring a dish or two, and bring down the veggie burgers, let us know the aprroximate number of veggies coming.

Even though I’ve been lurking for about two years, I wouldn’t dare think of attending (I feel I know you, but you sure don’t know me). What’s been driving me nuts is trying to figure out where you live. You see, I live right just inside WV and I commute to McLean. I drive Rt 9 everyday and now you say you live “right on 9”. Okay, on Rt9 with “buildings” (??) and a guest house thingy. Gaahhh!! It’s driving me nuts!!
(great, now I sound like a stalker)
BTW… I think it’s cool that “O” will be there. He and Foster (glass blowing guy) are my favs at the Fair.
A dopefest quotient, Jonathan, is the number of dopers you have met at dopefests. The term doesn’t make sense to me . . . it’d seem to ME that a dopefest quotient is how many dopers you see per dopefest.

Another Doper actually lives near me!!! You drive past our place every single day. It’s the big, yellow, ramshackle house right at the intersection of Route 9 (Charles Town Pike) and Route 671 (Harpers Ferry Road). Right across from where the general store burned down last July. (Side note: It’s a helluva thing to be awakened at 3AM because the fire trucks are hosing down your house ‘just in case’)
Theios, you have to come! It’s a natural! Come, enjoy the food, meet the dogs, drive the tractor! It’s ordained by fate dang it!!!
Can I please have a show of hands from everyone who would like Theios to make it to the party? Who cares if you’re mostly a lurker? We all did that at one point. The important thing is that you’re welcome in my house!

I registered June 6 of last year. My first dopefest was in . . . October of last year? Whenever “The Exorcist” got re-released. I was going to dinner and a movie with pldennison, peta tzunami, falcon, sqrl cub and dcnewsman. They all knew eachother very well. Was I intimidated by all these vets? Initially, yeah. But then I found my niche.
You will, too. But you have to COME to the darned DOPEFEST to find it!
Lord have mercy, Jonathan. After a moving post like that, how could I refuse you (not to mention the tractor rides!) I talked to my SO about it and explained that I wouldn’t really know a soul there. She reminded me that total strangers come up to us and tell us their life story anyway, so what’s the difference. So count me and my SO in please. No need to give us directions, I know where your place is.
Goody, goody, goody! I get to meet ANOTHER doper! A local one, at that. I want to get a lot of suggestions of things to see in the area, and not the “most likely tourist-type” ones, either. As for driving the tractor, I will let the rest of you fight over that. I’ve baled enough hay to tide me over for awhile, thanks. And I’m not humming “America the Beautiful”, it’s more like “I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it. C’mon, c’mon…”
We’re a little short on ‘touristy’ things out here. But I’ll look around. There’s always Harper’s Ferry or just the brilliance of the Shenandoah Valley from the scenic overlooks on the Blue Ridge.

We’ve pretty much settled on having Sweet T’s Ice Cream and Deli handle the catering for the party. That means cold cuts in the afternoon and hot food delivered around 5-6. In addition we’ll have makings for Sundaes.
What’s everyone like? Caramel? Hot Chocolate? Banana Splits? What? Out with it.
And don’t forget, you’ll get to meet the newest one-year old on the block, Lil Baby Kate!
Lastly, who makes those ‘Putz!’ buttons? I thought they’d be a winner at the fling!
