I have several thoughts. One is, we all try to cram into my apartment. Since I haven’t confirmed if my roommate is going to be around or not (I’m guessing not), this is probably still not a great idea.
So, I’m thinking we’ll meet elsewhere. There’s a Dave and Buster’s at the White Flint Mall right near my place, as well as a bevy of Friday’s/Bennigans/Chili’s/etc.-type restaurants all within ten minutes drive of Chez Montfort et Anniz.
Does anyone have a preference? D&B would be a lot of fun. Folks can play arcade games, eat, drink, and be merry. Since it’s walking distance from the aforementioned Chez, we can even get blitzed and not have to worry about getting into a car (however, extreme caution will be needed in crossing Rockville Pike).
D&B is a bit noisy, though, which might put a damper on Olentzero and SqrlCub’s renditioning of Swedish folk songs for Anniz.
I’m still bucking for the short list at Chez A&M, but there is the thought that the TGI Bennibee’s-type restaurants more often than not have function rooms of one sort or another where we could all hang out and cause a ruckus without bothering the rest of the patrons or having them provide extra background ambience for Sqrl and me.
Olentzero, et al. I think we’ll probably migrate back to my place after getting food/drinks. We’ll do that especially if it’s not singing-friendly for you and SqrlCub.
I’ll be e-mailing out directions and whatnot, Sara, as soon as we decide where we’re meeting. In any case, it’ll be easiest for you, as you’ll be taking 95 south to the Beltway, and heading west, and ultimately getting off at exit 34, Wisconsin Ave./Rockville Pike. Any restaurants we meet at will be along the Pike, and my apartment is three simple turns off the Beltway. You won’t get lost, trust me.
Does D&B’s have any rooms for large parties (such as ours) that can be reserved? I know its competitor, Jillian’s, does, but I’ve only been to D&B’s once. If so, that would probably work well.
Otherwise, D&B’s being as noisy as it is, it might be more pleasant to eat somewhere where conversation is possible, then go to D&B’s for fun and games. By the time we headed back to your place, Monty, we’d probably be down to a number that would comfortably fit there.
Even though I will have already met Montfort & Anniz in Philly the previous weekend, I may be able to make it down to DC for the eponymous Dopefest. Providing, of course, that I can come up with a good enough excuse to borrow my Mum’s car for a second weekend running. And if it doesn’t snow. My Mum doesn’t like me driving in the snow. Ah, the joys of living at home again aged 27, with no car of my own.
But I digress. I’ll certainly know by the Philly Dopefest.
Montfort, if you could email me your street address I’d be ever so grateful.
And Falcon, I know I swore off mapquest, but last time I got confused! And this time I won’t be doing half my driving in the dark and with no way to make light in the car except to open a door.
I’ll just have to leave earlier this time.
And I may or may not be going to this thing in lieu of an academic tourney.
punny: As soon as a final location is determined (and it probably will be D&B, which Anniz and I will scout next week), I’ll be e-mailing out directions to everyone.
Trust me, the directions, to either my place or to the mall where D&B is, are very easy. You take the Beltway into Maryland, get off at exit 36 (Old Georgetown Road) and make a few, easily spotted and defined, turns.
HEY, I might be able to get to this one. Maybe I should let this post follow the same tone as my other posts of this nature.
Hama says she might get to go.
No one cares.
Hama goes anyway.
The hubman has determined that getting me the living hell out of the house occasionally is more than worth the stress because I inevitably come home more relaxed. Whee, a viable excuse!
So anyhow, I’m awaiting details with bated breath as well.
Okay, I’m back from Florida, so the first of Anniz and my three Dopefests are done. It was a good success, too, beating out all other Dopefests in the state of Florida with a total of six attendees (barring a recount, of course).
So, let’s get some new names on the list for this one. I’m going to check out Dave and Buster’s in Rockville this week sometime, and hopefully that’ll be good for us.
The current attendee list:
[li]Montfort[/li][li]Anniz[/li][li]Falcon[/li][li]iampunha[/li][li]John Corrado[/li][li]weirddave[/li][li]SqrlCub[/li][li]dcnewsman[/li][li]Olentzero[/li][li]Lucretia[/li][li]Bluesman[/li][li]RTFirefly (and maybe the missus, too)[/li][li]OpalCat[/li][li]UnDeadDude[/li][li]Nicky[/li][li]Nacho4Sara[/li][li]Duke[/li][li]Hamadryad (maybe)
[/li]Anyone else? I’d like to have a firm-ish number to tell D&B. Twenty sure would sound nice.
On the off chance I’ll be driving, put me in for “maybe.” Otherwise, it’s kinda difficult for me to take public transportation on a weekend. RTF: could you link your sig to my Dopefest thread, now set for 3/17?
I got lost twice going from Alexandria to Vienna this past sunday night, including a detour into what looked like southeast DC (streets numbers in the single digits) and something that looked like a military base and was not Andrews.
Yep, there will be updates. To paraphrase Chasing Amy, it’s like oral sex, CNN, and The Weather Channel: you need constant updates.
Sadly, it’s not cheap. It’s a really good way, actually, to spend a lot of money without realising it. Hopefully you can find a, umm, sponsor, to keep you funded throughout the night.
Well, if “turn left” and “turn right” conspire to confuse you, then no Mapquest will help you, my friend on the academic team.
Jeff: I know you’re not the only NoVa Doper coming by, so maybe someone can offer you a ride if you need one.
