DCDope, part next, aka, Come Meet Anniz

Okay, I spoke to Ruby Tuesday’s this afternoon, and we’re good to go tomorrow night.

Ruby Tuesdays on Rockville Pike in Rockville.
7pm.
The big party room in the back.

I’ll be the one with the beautiful Swede with him.

Well, maybe not the only one. We are friends with a guy who also had the good fortune to meet and marry a beautiful Swede…do you mind if we bring them along?

No, not at all. As far as I’m concerned, there are never enough beautiful Swedes at a party.

I’m not fully Swedish, but I’m damn handsome.

Shouldn’t this be in IMHO? Cuz it’s definitely just your opinion. d&r

I’m sorry guys, I was really looking forward to going, but I’m going to have to bow out, for several reasons:

  1. My Uncle Bob died on Friday (he had late-stage brain cancer) and the viewings are tomorrow. I really need to be awake and ready for them, and emotionally, I’m a bit of a mess. (My aunt died two weeks ago, so this is a painful blow).

  2. If I can afford gas for the trip, I cannot afford to eat, and vice versa. Commuting to UMBC and back every day has ruined my gas fund.

So I hope ya’ll have a great time, please let Anniz know that I am sorry I can’t be there, and have a few shots and dance on the bar for me, or something.

Waaaa!!!
UDD has decided he doesn’t want to go, and I don’t really want to drive up to Rockville by myself :frowning:

Sarah,

You can carpool with me, if you want. I understand about your uncle tho. I’ll be on AIM all day, just IM me or something.

Wish I could be present, but I am, alas, back in Florida… I’d say “sunny Florida” but it’s kinda grey and drab right now…

I’m going. Big M, would you care to re-state the precise directions once again for purposes of redundancy?

Furthermore, I’m offering up the Den of Iniquity as an emergency crash-pad for those who don’t feel like taking on the road after this. It can sleep any number of people willing to endure a certain degree of discomfort–there’s plenty of dirty clothes to sleep on. Just remember that I have blankets, ridge-rests, and beer, while the 5-0 offers concrete slabs and water from something often confused with a urinal.

How to get there

Here’s the tricky part. Rockville Pike is the main drag through Rockville. Getting there is different for both our Baltimorean friends and our Virginians. Bear with me here:

For the Virginians

Take I-495 Inner Loop over the American Legion Bridge. Soon after your cross into Maryland, you’ll start seeing signs that 495 splits in two miles.

You’re going to want to start moving to the left lane then. At the split, get on I-270 North.

Stay on 270 North until you reach Montrose Road (I think it’s exit 3, but it’ll be less than 5 miles or so from the Beltway). Exit East.

Travel on Montrose about a mile until you reach Rockville Pike (MD-355). Turn left.

Two blocks up Rockville Pike is Federal Plaza on your left. Best bet is to make the left-hand turn just past the bed store, which will drop you off right in the parking lot next to Ruby Tuesday’s. If you miss that turn, make a U-turn at the next light, Rollins Ave (where there are five gas stations at the intersection) and then double-back into the shopping center. Tuesday’s faces Rockville Pike, so you shouldn’t miss it.

For the Marylanders

Take I-495 to exit 34, Rockville Pike/Wisconsin Avenue. As you exit the Beltway, migrate to the left lane so you don’t head south on Wisconsin Avenue.

Travel up Rockville Pike about two miles, passing the White Flint Mall (with Dave and Buster’s) on the right.

A few minutes after that, you’ll pass Montrose Road, and get ready to make a left-hand turn in at the shopping center just past the bed store. Just like the Virginians, you can make a U-turn at Rollins if you miss this entrance.

For our friends in the District of Columbia

Exit the city on Wisconsin Avenue. As it approaches the Beltway in Bethesda, the road changes names to Rockville Pike. Follow the above directions for the Marylanders exiting the Beltway from there.

For the Metro riders

Take the Red line to Twinbrook. Exit the station and walk around the big Doubletree Hotel to reach Rockville Pike. With the hotel at your back, you’ll be facing a Chevy Chase Bank across the street. If you’re facing that way, start walking down Rockville Pike to your left.

Cross the Pike soon, because the shopping center is just past Rollins Ave. on the southbound side of the road. You’ll be walking southbound, but the metro station is on the northbound side of Rockville Pike.

For everyone
Yahoo! Maps has a map with links for directions here:

I hope you can make it anyway, Opal. And Sarah, please ask Dave for a lift. We want to see you there.

See everyone tonight!

…if I’m dragging myself off my sickbed and driving all the way from the shores of the Chesapeake Bay (insert ancient “National Beer” jingle here ;)), you can get there from Fairfax.

Speaking of sickbeds, are you and family back in good health, I hope?

Hey, I’d just like to say that it was a pleasure to meet all of you for the first time. You’re pretty dang cool.

Thank you, Montfort and Anniz for working so hard to arrange this and to open your home to all of us. I can only hope that you enjoyed yourselves as much as I did.

To reiterate, I had a f–king ball! When are we going skydiving?

Bluesman and I thought it was great meeting you, too, Sofa King, as well as Montfort and Anniz and everyone else we hadn’t met before. As for the rest of you (and you know who you are) it’s always a hoot getting together with everyone, and we are looking forward to St. Patty’s day.

Sorry I barely got to meet anyone. In case anyone cares, apparently I have a transmission fluid leak. My car’s still sitting in a parking deck in Northern VA. Whoop-de-doo. It was lovely to briefly meet those of you I met, and I’m sorry I was chained to the restaurant rather than being able to continue the jollies with the rest of you.

Special thanks to weirddave for being my guardian angel.

Anniz and I had a lot of fun, too. It was good to see all those I’ve met before (and a few that I had lunch with on Friday), but especially good to meet those I hadn’t before: Lucretia, Bluesman, and friends, Sofa King, and Althea.

Sorry you had car troubles, Hammy, I’m grateful that you did make it for a brief appearance. I’m sorry, too, that we had to leave the restaurant right after you got there. It’s nothing personal, really.

And for those that didn’t make it. :stuck_out_tongue: on you!

So…
did anyone get changed?

Before, during, or after the party?

AFAIK, no one got changed during the party. My apartment is pretty small, so any changing would’ve been noticed.

What people did on their own time, though, isn’t under my observation.

As for Anniz and I… well… use your imagination.

Pictures, people, we got pictures!

First, observe The Many Views of Althea. Like the moon, she has many phases.

Next, no “Come Meet Anniz” party could be complete without a photo of the lovely Anniz.

Also of note:
[ul][li]A demented genius somewhere is contemplating this very act: fusing Pit Moderator and Pit Thread-subject into one horrific beast: iam John Corrado ha[/li][li]SqrlCub plays guitar, while Olentzero sang Swedish songs out of his EyeMouth[sup]TM[/sup][/li][li]He was sick, but he still showed up, anyway! He’s Chesapeake, MD’s own **RTFirefly**![/li]Finally, no Dopefest would be complete without a picture of Lucretia smiling[/ul]

I had a blast, guys. 'S interesting how fun a party can be when you actually try to consciously control your alcohol intake!

For all you whom I met the first time there, you all rock. Sofa King, had I no familial responsibilities (and a pocketful o’ cash) I would have stuck on at the Rhodeside with you for one round, anyway. Yer damn cool.

Anniz, det var visst bra att träffa dig och tala litet svenska med dig - jag skulle ha vilja att tala mera med dig, men jag ville inte monopolisera all din tid.

Montfort - great party! Thanks for letting me hog the spotlight for a few minutes. If I get it out of my system I tend not to run rampant for the rest of the evening.

So what’s the deal with a St Patty’s party I hear rumors of?
