Deadpool. Seen it. (Open Spoilers)

I saw it today… its like in the mould of Guardians and Ant Man a movie which does not take itself too seriously and is actually helped by Ryan Reynolds playing it in a Buck Turgitsonesque over the top way.

Marvel is on a roll.

Plus one thing I never thought I would see in a Marvel film; pegging.

It’s not a Marvel Studios film, it’s owned by Fox, as is the X-Men.
I saw it yesterday and laughed my ass off. Hilarious film, right from the opening credits on.

Best opening credits ever!

I saw it on imax thanks to a friend who had early tickets and reserved a bunch. My partner and I loved it, we may see it again tomorrow. Another friend in the group remarked that it was one of the best rom-coms he’s seen.

Well, I would have seen it along with along with my ex-wife’s two boys and their stepbrother (ages 9 1/2, 11,11) but the douchebag at the Cinemark ticket counter insisted that they had to be accompanied by an actual parent (FWIW, they did have parental permission to see the movie). Seriously? Is this some new policy for Deadpool? (We saw Fury Road at the same theater with no problems.)

Best post-credits tag since Ferris Bueller!

Did they demand a DNA test or something? Why not just say you’re the parent? It’s not their fucking business and you had no obligation to be honest about it.

The movie was everything I hoped and dreamed it would be.

Loved it.

I also loved the idea that many people have recessive mutant genes that will reveal as a defense mechanism.

And Morena Baccarin…goddamn.

Loved the opening credits. Loved the closing credits (“He’s the hottest”). Loved the after credits scene. Loved the fourth wall breaks and the fourth wall break within a fourth wall break within a flashback (“Is that sixteen walls?”) Loved Morena Baccarin and that she wasn’t just a love interest. Loved that there were two female mutants who weren’t just window dressing. Adored Collosus. And Ryan Reynolds was perfect for the role.

It’s your and their parents’ decision, but I sure as hell wouldn’t take kids that age to see Deadpool.

Yeah, I agree, my 11-year old won’t be seeing it for several years at least. It was pretty raunchy. And, hysterical. The audience I was in laughed so loud several times that we missed some lines, I’m sure. And the opening credits were great.

It’s a hard R for sure, but I also don’t think any of the material would be damaging to a younger person. Hell, it might be good to see a hero with less mainstream openmindedness about sexuality.

That said my theater was probably 25% 14 year olds that repeatedly checked their phones and I hate them.

Aww, man! I didn’t wait for an after credits scene - I figured Fox wouldn’t do one.

Check out Media Stinger before going to a movie.

You didn’t miss much in all honesty. A homage to Ferris Beuller, plus a teaser to a character to Deadpool 2, But I believe a sequel was only greenlit recently. So presumably at the time of filming they had no idea if there would even be a sequel.

I loved the movie, I can’t recall the last time I laughed so hard at a movie, I was gasping for breath a couple of times. I think they’ve done s great job of making the humor and references accessable to a wide audience. There were a few comic book references buried away that you’d have to be a fan to catch.

As a plus, my wife and I both loved the soundtrack as well.

CNN is reporting $135 million opening.

I told the clerk one of the boys was paying for his ticket with cash and I was paying for myself and the other two with a debit card. (I was formerly a stepfather to those two.) He asked if I was their “real parent” and I said no. (The MPAA rating of “R” states minors must be accompanied by parent OR guardian. Assuming a broad definition of “guardian” I certainly meet the criteria.) Anyway, I shouldn’t have to lie. And considering we saw Fury Road at the same theater with no problems I don’t see what the big deal was.

Eh, I’m almost 50 and have seen thousands of films of all types. I also know the boys well enough to know they’d be okay with Deadpool. Mind you, there are films I wouldn’t let them watch just yet. For instance, I nixed Pan’s Labyrinth for them after a nephew had a bad reaction to it (his parents let him watch it - whoops!). But juvenile raunchiness and cartoonish violence? That’s right up their alley.

It was more like very explicit sex and realistic brutal violence.

Yea, the violence is not as cartoonish and the sex is more explicit. Fury Road had an R rating? In any case, that was more over the top than Fury Road.
