Deadpool. Seen it. (Open Spoilers)

They toned down his ugliness for the movie, yes.

It depends on the artist, but here’s the gist of what they’re drawing him like now.

I saw the movie twice last month. Loved it for all the reasons most gave above. The second act did have pacing problems with his origin story, but other than that, it was a nice return to the rated-R fare I loved from the 80s, with a modern comedic sentiment.

It makes sense that his exact look keeps changing. Each bout of healing would change things around.

Just a quick bump that Deadpool comes out on bluray/DVD next Tuesday.

Deadpool is currently the highest grossing R rated movie ever worldwide, and only $9 million behind Passion of the Christ domestically.

I bought the film on BD having missed it when it came out, and I really didn’t feel the love. The opening credits were fantastic, but after that it sort of fizzled. I fast-forwarded a few bits due to boredom, got to the fist fight, , then there was the flashback with the pizza guy, again a bit of FF due to boredom and I gave up. Perhaps I should try watching it after a couple of glasses of wine?

Kind of felt the same. I bought the blu-ray when it was released a few months back, watched it once, and haven’t bothered to watch it again. Maybe the whole “super-hero who says witty one-liners while fighting” is finally wearing on me. Spiderman, IronMan, StarLord, etc. I found the story and fighting run-of-the-mill and forgetable also.

I dislike Ryan Reynolds as tho he were a talentless hack that evil film companies keep foisting on the public to keep everyone longing for a new Pauly Shore movie, but I liked Deadpool. I still hated hearing Ryan Reynolds voice (it grates on me), but I thought he did a good job with the role and thought the film was among the better Marvel movies.

I actually enjoy Ryan Reynolds in pretty much anything he’s in. But one minor problem I kind of had was that the Deadpool character is practically modelled after Reynolds (“…crossed with a Shar Pei” according to the comic) and Reynolds is so into the character that with all the fourth wall breaks it was like watching Van Wilder in a red suit murdering a bunch of people.
Another problem is that Deadpool kind of screws up the whole X-Man universe. All the X-Men films are dark and serious with a constant undercurrent of metaphorical racism. Now here comes this weird goofball Deadpool. Imagine Deadpool showing up in any other X-Man film and having a conversation with the Xavier, Mystique, Magneto, or really any of the humorless main characters. I’m starting to think that maybe there was a reason they sewed his mouth shut in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
That said, I really enjoyed the film. Particularly his exchanges with TJ Miller.
“You WILL die alone. I mean…if you COULD die…ideally…for others’ sake.”

… I don’t see the problem with that.

Or with that.

In the original X-Men, Beast and Iceman tended to be smart alecs, and later Wolverine and Nightcrawler weren’t all that serious. Plus, Spiderman constantly cracks jokes and he’s teamed with and/or fought just about every humorless sour pants in the whole Marvel universe. Some of these heroes need some comic relief. I agree the movie X-Men universe is bit of a downer. Thank goodness for Quicksilver.

But Quicksilver is still grounded in that universe. Deadpool is so (hilariously) over the top that he borders on parody. If you placed him in an X-Men film, I would imagine him overpowering every scene with his personality.

The fourth wall breaks are an integral part of the character. To everyone else Deadpool is a crazy nutjob who thinks he is in a comic book (or movie, videogame, etc) and treats him a such. The fact that he is right is only for us to enjoy.

Well said.

Also, in the comics, Deadpool works on a sliding scale of insanity. If he’s in his own book, he’s a wacky fourth-wall breaking cartoon. When he’s in someone else’s book, or is a supporting character in a major “event” comic, he’s basically Spider-Man with more guns.

What if he leaves them in the cab?

I’d pay good money for a Deadpool/She-Hulk crossover.

Where do you go when you have two superheroes who know they’re in a comic book. I could see a riff where they both break the fourth wall but to different groups of people.

I loved the movie too. But frankly, I really think they are gonna screw up the sequel by repeating too much of this movie’s formula. First time it’s fresh. The second time - it’s just leftovers.
