Dealing with leftovers in the MMP

G’night, y’all. I haven’t got much to add, but I’m glad you’re all here. Hugs, boos, etc, as needed.

We said it was sort of like a Denny’s but of higher quality, with good biscuits and gravy. I don’t think we captured it well.

O M G

I just sent a link to my dad - one of his nicknames is “Old Goat”. I’m fairly certain he’ll be sharing that with his friends.

Reading about all the yummies, I’m wondering if I have enough pecans to make a pie or something else pecan heavy. Might have to get up off the couch and check.

For those curious about the eggs in dressing. It’s not just one. The dressing is eggy like bread pudding, but savory. My husband doesn’t like bread pudding and he doesn’t like my mom’s/grandmother’s recipe, so I don’t make it.

Grandma’s recipe:
Giblets (minus the liver)
4 onions
celery cut up
salt & pepper
large loaf white bread
8 eggs
1 quart milk
Broth from turkey

It’s normally baked it in two pans. And one of those pans would get a jar of cut up oysters as well.

Her sister-in-law’s recipe calls for 20 slices of bread and 3 eggs and also includes milk.

This was a busy week. Monday I went to the gym and signed up for a year, and got some instruction for a few of the weight machines.

Wednesday we went to our third concert in as many weeks, and we got to meet up with a friend we haven’t seen since pre-COVID, and also met their new partner. Concert was Mammonth WVH, Halestorm and Alter Bridge, all of whom were excellent.

On Friday I went back to the gym and did 10 minutes, just 10 minutes of rowing, in addition to some weight machines. By bedtime my arms were hurting and weren’t much good for anything else. Woke up at 3:00 and took Advil because they were still bothering me. Might take some more, depending on how they feel.

So today, I is tired. Just to make sure I had a full week, I had 2 full days of on-site training, so learned a lot and have even more to do.

Today’s plan? Already did one load of laundry, and stripped the bed. It’s time to flip/rotate the mattress, so the mattress cover’s in the wash, and then there’s the sheets to wash as well. I also wash our robes and the laundry basket liners when we flip/rotate the mattress, so lots of laundry to do.

Plus there’s cleaning the new windows, and cleaning the areas where we had to move furniture, before we move the furniture back.

Lunch will be homemade meatloaf from the freezer and fresh made mashed potatoes, plus carrots. On the way home from the gym I stopped and got potatoes and carrots from the discount store. Got 5 lbs of potatoes and 2 lbs of carrots for 5.15 CHF, and the potatoes are a lot bigger than the more expensive ones. Should do that more often.

When you figure that out, please share. Growing up during the 1970s energy crisis, my parents are still very stingy with the heat and lights, Hubby’s family had different ideas.

Speaking of energy crisises, the discount store turned off the outside lights after they closed. I’m happy about it, as I think it should be dark at night. Maybe our complex will get a clue as well.

Thanks for the link! As I am logged into Netflix here, I just added the show to our watch list. Been meaning to take a look, but haven’t gotten around to it.

My grandmother just cooked them up with bacon and portioned them out into freezer bags. They were just the thing for grandpa to nuke in the microwave when he wanted something to eat and she was working. That was the extent of his cooking knowledge. Still one of my favorites, but I don’t make it myself - I would probably gorge myself.

Okay, I am caught up.

Thanks for sharing all the yummy food ideas/descriptions. And now I’ve realized that tomorrow is the first Sunday in Advent, so there’s Christmas-related stuff to do as well. Probably need to get a move on.

Hugs to all and happy Saturday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 57 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 67 and cloudy. Not much on the agenda today, so sloth shall reign. Kolledge tackleball will be watched. The big one for me is my Dawgs vs. the Gnats. The Gnats would be Jawja Tech, which is located in Etlanner along North Avenue. We UGA folk refer to it as North Avenue Trade School (NATS), hence the name Gnats. You may use that as your absolutely useless information of the day. You’re welcome! There are leftovers to be had so that shall take care of any need to feed.

Quietly glad you had a good time and survived the wilderness.

Nettie Fed ECCHS deserves a nastygram from you.

Die I vote for makin’ the pee-kahn pie. One never needs a reason to make pee-kahn pie! Pee-kahn pie is reason enough itself. Speakin’ of Advent, I should probably take a look at the service bulletin before church time tomorrow, since stuff has changed. Or not. Sometimes it’s fun to be surprised.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

All y’all (and my manager) were right. After getting a few Secret Santa things and eating some of my bread and soup, I … took a nap. Then I had more bread and soup, and … slept deeply most of the night.

Apparently, my immune system needed me to rest more!

So thanks to all of you. Sometimes I need adult supervision.

Don’t we all… some more than others…

Plans for the day - LAUNDRY!!! And I’ll do a final leaf vac run around the yards this afternoon. I’ve started making finger puppets and I decided to make a bunch of the shells before adding details like wings or eyes or whatever I choose. Rather than make up sets, I’m just going to make random characters and sell them for $2 each (I hope!) Maybe 2/$3? I want to maximize what the school will realize in profits, but I don’t want to be stuck with a bunch of leftovers.

SIL is coming over to take the tables and chairs back to Daughter’s school, then FCD is going to help him change a headlight. Apparently in the HHR, one needs to access the headlight thru the wheel well. Whoever designed that should be flogged. Seriously, headlights and taillights should be the simplest things for a car owner to replace. No excuses!!

It’s also clean-the-critter-fountain day, and I’ve got a bunch of kid’s toys to haul downstairs. So I guess it’s a busy day ahead. Happy Saturday!!

sari, do you think that Cerby would benefit from a backyard agility course ? The dog park where we have a regular playdate has an agility course enclosure that the herd dogs just love. Your son may find an interest in working with him on it.

Those were good movie picks butters.

metal mouse, that is quite a lap dog! Skritches to him and the rest of your brother’s pooches.

Glad that you didn’t get blown away on your camping trip silenus.

Moooooom, your SIL’s HHR was made when headlights would likely need to be changed at some point of the life of the car, but are hard to get to. A lot of the newer models, the headlights are $$$, a PITA to change (meaning that not very many shade tree mechanics will be set up for them), but intended to last the life of the car.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Sloth is definitely on the agenda today. If it warms up, a trip to the dog park may happen.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

We all do at times, even the ones who usually do the supervising. Glad you’re feeling better.

Just sent a mass email to my family regarding our Christmas goofy gift exchange. I proposed we do White Elephants so we don’t have to shop for new crap to put in our houses. So we’ll see what kind of feedback I get. Meanwhile, laundry is started, FCD is running errands, and I’m about to haul a metric buttload of toys down to the basement. The trick will be finding places to put them all. I may leave some in a bin to be swapped out with other toys from time to time.

I swear, those two kids have more toys than the 5 of us had combined way back when. Kids these days…

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 33 degrees and cloudy (it’s dark, but I believe it), with an expected high of 48 and rain moving in by early evening. Yesterday was a real frog soaker. It rained all day long.

My son managed to get a tow set up to haul his Jeep from my mother’s place to a mechanic near his home and was home by 1:00 pm yesterday. I drove him over to meet the tow truck driver, but we got there early, so I drove him around my old neighborhood and pointed out all my old haunts that are no longer there; they all have homes on them. Then we met the tow truck driver, said our goodbyes and I drove home.

When I got home, we had to give Polar a sitz bath and wash his backside. There was stuff stuck on his back end due to his anus prolapsing when he poos and not retracting fast enough. Things were irritated and I saw a little blood, so I had to get that sorted tout suite. Things are looking much better this morning, but I will keep an eye on it. One of the side effects of his anal gland surgery a year and a half ago is that his anus prolapses and doesn’t retract very quickly. We have to keep an eye on it. He apparently had issues while we were at the kids’ house on Thanksgiving. I didn’t realize anything was really wrong until I saw a little blood on his dog blanket. He is very, very fluffy so we don’t always see things as they happen back there, and he does not like people looking at or getting near his back end. Yesterday though, he didn’t fight us in the tub at all. He just laid there on his belly letting things soak. After his sitz and then a scrubbing up, he was downright perky and glad it was over.

shoe, I’m glad you stayed home and got some extra rest.

I watched Wednesday on Netflix and mostly enjoyed it too.

I’m sorry you’re feeling a bit blue, Butters.

Well, I need to get some more coffee. It was a restless night for me. Afte the next cup, I need to tidy up around here and maybe I’ll drag out the tree and decorations. My daughter already has hers up. The kids helped her decorate it. Zoe put on most of the decorations and was very helpful. I’m not sure how ambitious I’ll feel, but I know I need to get it done.

I hope you all have a terrific day!

Maybe time to weed out anything that neither of them is interested in, or anything that both have outgrown?

We’ve done that - or at least my daughter has. I’ve got a bin to be donated and she culled a lot at her house. Part of the problem (a large part) are the assorted aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, great grandparents, grandparents, cousins - everybody likes giving kids toys. Plus some were my daughter’s when she was little, so lots of stuff. LOTS of stuff.

Today is Allie’s 11th adoption anniversary.

She and Buddy apparently felt it necessary to take a noisy squabble under the bed. While the humans were trying to sleep. (sigh)

Not much in the way of plans today.

A month or so ago, I wondered what this big nest was outside my apartment. I assumed it was a squirrel’s nest because I’d seen squirrels near it - but never in it. Today I have confirmation:

Well, yesterday we had a more-or-less traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner after all. We roasted a chicken, along with extra chickie thighs, just because, and green beans cooked with bacon, (not that nasty casserole), stove top stuffing (don’t judge), cranberry sauce, and store bought rolls. It was nice.
Today we’ll make home made noodles and produce chicken noodle soup with much of the leftover chicken. Yum.

Have a great satidday.

Howdy, all! I am typing at you from the car dealership, where I’ve been in the service waiting room since 10am: I came in for an oil change (finally), which I expected to wait ~2 hours for, and they discovered a minor recall. I told them to go ahead and address it now, even though it’ll add about an hour to the wait time. So, I could be here until 1pm (or later). Luckily I came prepared, with food/water/iPad/Kindle/etc. For the past two hours I’ve been putzing around online with my iPad, and am surprised that the battery level is still at 75%…but it’ll die soon enough, and then it will be Kindle time.

I did all of my indoor decorating yesterday. I had two new possible ornament trees for my Swarovski snowflakes: luckily, the one I preferred — and set up first — looks great! Plenty of room for future snowflakes, too…and maybe some additional crystal ornaments, which I might have to start buying. And the other ornament tree wound up being perfect for my very small ornament collection (after a couple of location changes and some ornament rearranging). I’m really happy with how everything looks inside.

The only Thanksgiving leftovers I brought home were some pieces of white-meat turkey, and Bailey and I had all of it for dinner last night. I love some leftover roasted turkey right out of the fridge (well, out of the fridge for 5-10 minutes so it isn’t super cold)!

Later today I’ll finish the outdoor decorating. The “new thing” I’d bought for my front door — a black metal snowflake with a fake battery-powered candle — was disappointing: the snowflake looked great against my white door, but after the sun went down I discovered that the “candle” light was very dim and very yellow and looked very bleh. And, you can’t see the snowflake outline at night. So the lighted wreath I bought last year is back on the front door, and I’ll look for another place for the snowflake (maybe sans candle). The other outdoor decoration still pending is a string of battery-powered lights that go on the small crepe myrtle in my front yard. It was very windy yesterday and I didn’t feel like dealing with lights, but I plan to set them up before dark.

Whenever I get out of this waiting room I have two more errands to run: put gas in the car, and go to the grocery store. Once I’m finally back home, though, I plan to stay put until my lab appointment (blood draw for my 1-year post-op checkup) on Monday morning.

Thanks for the link — not only for Wednesday, but because I learned about a docuseries on Netflix called Pepsi, Where’s My Jet? about a young man who attempted to get a Harrier jet via Pepsi Points in the mid-90s. I watched the first two episodes last night, and it’s fairly entertaining.

Happy gotcha day/adoptiversary, Allie!

Third load in the dryer, first 2 put away, fourth in the washer, 5th on deck. Critter fountain is clean. FCD is running his parents around again - his brother is useless. Sometimes I think we should have just left them in Florida… is that mean of me?

Holy @$$#%, did y’all buy everything that was on sale on the Interwebs yesterday? I twas busy, and it didn’t help they shut one of the SSLAWs down, to sent the people elsewhere. Naptime.

How about a hug, instead
{{{{Butters}}}}

what?

Nah. Dealing with people who need help, but actively sabotage themselvves is difficult.

Buddy:“YOU’RE ADOPTED!”
Allie; “SO ARE YOU!”
Both: MOM!!!

Discovered one of Monkey’s catnip mousies in his water bowl. Maybe he was making tea?

Finally put together a little (cheapie plastic) shelving unit and have decluttered a bit more, now that I have a place for “stuff” that’s mostly been dribbling around my living room floor.

Off to work (the “Long Night” closing shift) in … aw, hell, like two hours.

ETA: @Buttercup_Smith are you doing any better, sweetheart? No pressure to say, “Oh, yeah, everything’s fine!” just to placate us.

Sure you’re well enough yet?
