Dealing with sleeplessness in the MMP

The effort to turn our PCs into cell phones.

Flytrap in answer to your question from whence comes the money for da cave redo, I received some money from my mom’s estate and I decided to sell some stock. This gives me enough moolah for the biiiiiiiiiiiig makeover, a new ‘puter (thinkin’ a nice laptop bein’ as da cave has wifi), and to plan my eventual demise, not that I’m plannin’ to shuffle off this mortal coil anytime soon, just think it’s a good idea to pre-plan stuff. Needless to say a large chunk o’ change is goin’ into the makeover which is overdue. I am a gay man who has gone twenty-two years without redoin’ my home. The horror!

Can I haz your [del]coasters[/del] CDs?

  • I mean so I have something to remember you by.

What?? swampy’s gay?!?!?!?

Aw, c’mon, we haven’t done that in far too long.

Two loads of laundry are all done, curtains are in the dryer and jeans are in the washer. One more load after the jeans. When the curtains come out, they’ll go up in the blue room and it’ll be ready for the kids, more or less.

I’ve got to put a box of stuff for the thrift store in my car and take a few boxes down to the basement. Slowly but surely, we’re getting ready for our expanded household.

Happy Saturday!

It’s cold outside and I woke up too early, and I can tell already today is going to be another grumpy day.

I had an annoying day yesterday, nothing serious, just a series of small annoyances that added up to feeling like my head was going to explode.
Today is not much better, starting with the damn cat scratching me on my eye lid, web sites I need to access being down formaintenance, the dog being a brat*, and my phone acting up,and the damn space key is still sticking.

*Last night I knocked the remote on the floor. Ripple instantly claimed it as his. I got it away from him and he has spent most of the morning trying to get it back. He managed to get it once already, got the back off and was chewing on a battery. I got it away from him and put it up higher and I caught him tryng to get to it again. There is something in that dog that once he gets something he claims it as his and he will not give up trying to get it back.
He also tried to help me fold sheets this morning, which means grab a corner of the sheet in his mouth and run.

If he and the cat don’t stop fighting I am going to scream, it is non-stop, and it’s fighting, not playing. I know they are each trying to establish dominance, but it is getting old. The main thing they fight over is the love seat, they both want it and don’t want the other one on it. There is room enough for both of them but nope, they are each trying to claim it.

Later today I have to help Sah-son with some bullshit assignment for school. Biology started Moonday and he has 10 assignments due this week, four of which are of the kind I call bullshit assigments - this last one being having to post on the message board about an event in his life that demostrates the ‘beauty of life’. Real easy for the parents in his class, they all said the birth of their child(ren). Not so easy for him.
I helped him through the other ones, I told him they are bullshit assignments, so just bullshit your way through them. Bullshitting is a life skill everybody needs to learn starting with your first job interview and you get asked the question, why do you want this job? Everybody makes up an answer because the truth is nobody wants the damn job, but they need money so they have a place to sleep, food to eat, and don’t have to run naked and barefoot through the snow.

I think I have my cell phone fixed. Some how settings got changed and every time I picked up the phone I had to go through security to get back in. It’s not supposed to do that when I am home.
I finally got into the web site for the house phone and blocked all numbers except irk numbers, which I hope will work this time.

I’m glad your FIL is doing better Sunny.

Here’s a handy hint you might want to write down for future reference: When you load your washer, the clothes will get cleaner if you hit “Start”. :smack:

Please bear in mind the Carnivorousplant education fund.

Dogbutt, you are supposed to take your shoes off, you inconsiderate oaf!

GRAY, Mom, gray!

Glad FIL is doing better Sunny

We expect numerous pictures when your house gets all done Swampy

What kinda puter are you lusting after Mom? A ‘laptop’ or a ‘desktop’?
Iffen you want a laptop, I don’t have much advice for you. Wifey always buys Dells, but they don’t seem to last any longer than any other brand that I can see.
On the other paw, the desktop that I built for myself 7 or 8(?) years ago is still going strong and is still faster and less prone to trouble than her latest laptop. If it ever dies, which it shows no sign of doing, I am intrigued with those Intel NUCs. (I imagine that’s pronounced ‘nyuk’ ala the three stooges.) They’re tiny, and all the peripherals, (which I already have), connect via USB. The best, and probably only, advice I can give you is to get a SSD. They are sooo much faster.

I’m gonna make corned beef and veg today. I love corned beef and eat it throughout the year, mostly in Reuben sammiches. It’s somewhat annoying to me that I can only get it from the deli most of the time. I’ll prolly start about 1:00, as it’ll take somewhat over 4 hours to cook on the stovetop.

It occurs to me that I have a coupe of cans of Guiness in the back of the fridge. They’ve been in there for a year or two, but I’m sure they’re still good, for certain values of ‘good’.

Y’ll have a happy St. Paddy’s Day!

**Bumba **- I’m getting a desktop. I was looking at Dell because our company supposedly gets discounts, but I can get them cheaper from Staples. I just need a basic surfing machine and I don’t want to wait till this one dies. It’s almost 8 years old, which is close to antique in computer terms, right?

Jeans are finally in the dryer and the last load is in the washer. We’re about to go out for a late lunch/early supper. Just waiting for my sweetie to shower.

**FCD **finished the first part of the job he’s doing for one of the engineers in my group. He’s waiting for some hardware to be delivered so he can finish it.

MIL called - they’re thinking about driving up here for a visit at the end of the month. If they come, they’ll be going to Easter dinner at my mom’s house, which should be insane. Then again, dinners at my mom’s are always insane. Those of you who follow my sister on FB know why.

Home from irk. Got our corned beef cooking. It’s beginning to smell good.

Sleepy. Mayhap a nap is in order.

Off until Tuesday. I need the break.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day All!

At 9:02 AM this morning I sipped at my first Guiness, being the first to get one legal like in the bar. One guy did get two shots of Jameson’s before me but I had the first beer!!! I did order a coffee before that, so I could nail down a seat for a while, before walking up to Kansas Avenue a viewing the parade. I got coffee then at another place, and chocolate at my favorite shop. Saw part of the parade, went back and had another beer, then home.

There was a check in the mailbox from the state of Merrylande. Dunno why it didn’t go direct deposit, but it will be in our credit union either tomorrow or on my way to work on Moanday. Now, will we be getting a check from the feds, too?

We went to Red Robin, then made several stops on the way home. Last load is in the dryer and I’m about to clean the critter fountain because the magic pixies didn’t clean it while we were out. Dammit!

No car, so I doubt there will be much in the way of celebrating. C’est la vie. Or something. I feel like French may not be appropriate.

I have a long list of “should do’s” and I suspect I’m going to match it up with my “ain’t gonna” and see if anything shakes out.

Happy Satiddy all.

Since my daughter has officially revealed it, I’m free to share that my grandDAUGHTER’s name is Roxanna Fae - Roxy for daily use.

Roxanna is a very glamorous and cool name!

Swampy has teh gay???

What I find really cool about my granddaughter’s name - I found out a few years back that my dad had wanted to name me Roxanne, but my mom nixed it. My daughter said part of her baby-naming criteria was to avoid any names of her students. She’s been teaching 10 years, so that really narrowed the choices!

If it had been a boy, it would have been Tobias Oliver. I like Roxy better than Toby.

Yes, wet one, but it’s not contagious…

FCM, Pretty name, but being the old geezer I am, I keep hearing this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3T1c7GkzRQQ or this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmOLtTGvsbM (OK, it’s an s instead of an x, sue me), which while nice songs are probably not baby-safe…

Sari, for your sanity you might have to just admit those two are not going to live happily together and find one of them a new home. Some of the mutts’ issues may be from the stress of the constant fighting (I am not a vet or animal psych).

Baker, despite being half-Irish, I’ve never been a fan of Guiness; Harp Lager ain’t half bad.

Mmooooommm, I’ve had a Dell for about 6 years now, not a problem with it so I’ll run it till it drops. Sunday will be my red Robin day (Yum!). And congrats on the check–they can’t direct deposit it?
Got five of six soccer bags deployed to the U6 Girls coaches, got my boys U10 team assignments, and took a 2-hr nap. Just finished a big ol’sallit bowl with tomatoes so all is right with the world. Need to go check the mail here in a second.

Si.

May the fleas of a thousand camels nest in your armpits.

May a weird Holy Man rotate your sister.

Its a shame you don’t play one of the other major reeded instruments or someone could suggest you need to practice safe sax.

(Well, someone had to say it)

But we’ll think good thoughts for your tendons anyway.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure I won’t be singing the Police song to Roxy. I’ve written songs before and I can do it again.

Chores are done. Chillage is underway. Tomorrow I’ll be hanging pictures.

It’s been a good day!
