Ok I know there were threads when this was out a few months ago but I did a search and couldn’t find them. So I’ll use the DVD as an excuse to open a new one.
I’ll admit it, I’m one of the few people Danny Devito must have been targeting. I kinda liked this movie. It wasn’t great by any stretch but It had its moments.
The opening song “Everyone comes in Different sizes” was damned funny when you learn about Rainbow Randell (Randolf?) little secret.
My Wife also enjoyed that, which is no surprise as we have the same tastes.
Nope. The leads and others had been quoted calling this one of the funniest scripts they had ever read. And I think on the page, it probably was. It was just very, very hard to pull off. They nailed it sometimes and sometimes they missed it. Most of the nailing was Edward Norton, for sure.
I only listened to a little bit of it, but DeVito’s commentary on Death To Smoochy is among the worst I’ve ever heard. All he does is rattle off names of people who worked on the movie and say what a great job they did. Every scene is another “look was a great set X built” or “Y came up with this great dance number.” It’s understandable that he wants to spread the credit around, but yeesh.
