Me, I tend to be for the dicks. (Insert gay joke here). I like having a strong military, I like American cultural and political hegemony, I want minimal government interference in my life. In happier days, I would have been a moderate Republican. But my species of political animal has been hunted into extinction by the Bible-bumpers and neo-con fools running the GOP these days.

Republicans used to believe in a balanced budget.
Republicans used to believe in limited government spending.
Republicans used to believe in diplomacy.
Republicans used to believe in the freedom of the individual to live life free of of government harrassment.

None of that is true any more, which is why I have to vote for Kerry. He’s not my ideal candidate, but he is at least saner than the messianic goon we have now who believes that he can make no mistakes and that he is God’s chosen leader.

The day we have a president who thinks he rules by divine right is the day I start to fear for the health of the republic. As an American, I’m incurably allergic to kings.

I think handsome gobear makes a good point about what pubbies use to be and what types of evil-doers run the party now. I think many pubbies are good people but are just being led by EVIL people that pander to their values but really aren’t that way themselves. I’m talking about you DUBYA here.

A classic case of this is the new commercial that the Bushies run about the girl from Mason, OH that lost her mother in 911. The main point of the commercial is that Bush even though he is the world’s most powerful man (their words not mine) is still caring and compassionate enough to give the girl a hug. They run that commercial a lot here in Florida and its so cheesy and fake that it makes me violently ill every time I see it!

Well, I won’t comment on the “good”, “evil” and “subhuman” allegations in the OP, but when it comes to “intelligent” vs. “ignorant”, he may have a point:

Even after the final report of Charles Duelfer to Congress saying that Iraq did not have a significant WMD program, 72% of Bush supporters continue to believe that Iraq had actual WMD (47%) or a major program for developing them (25%). Fifty-six percent assume that most experts believe Iraq had actual WMD and 57% also assume, incorrectly, that Duelfer concluded Iraq had at least a major WMD program. Kerry supporters hold opposite beliefs on all these points.

Similarly, 75% of Bush supporters continue to believe that Iraq was providing substantial support to al Qaeda, and 63% believe that clear evidence of this support has been found. Sixty percent of Bush supporters assume that this is also the conclusion of most experts, and 55% assume, incorrectly, that this was the conclusion of the 9/11 Commission. Here again, large majorities of Kerry supporters have exactly opposite perceptions.

A recent poll by GlobeScan and PIPA of 35 of the major countries around the world found that in 30, a majority or plurality favored Kerry, while in just 3 Bush was favored. On average, Kerry was preferred more than two to one.

Bush supporters also have numerous misperceptions about Bush’s international policy positions. Majorities incorrectly assume that Bush supports multilateral approaches to various international issues–the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (69%), the treaty banning land mines (72%)–and for addressing the problem of global warming: 51% incorrectly assume he favors US participation in the Kyoto treaty. After he denounced the International Criminal Court in the debates, the perception that he favored it dropped from 66%, but still 53% continue to believe that he favors it. An overwhelming 74% incorrectly assumes that he favors including labor and environmental standards in trade agreements. In all these cases, majorities of Bush supporters favor the positions they impute to Bush. Kerry supporters are much more accurate in their perceptions of his positions on these issues

Regarding the OP, my opinion is that only those Republicans who KNOW all the harm that Bushco is doing yet support him anyway are evil.

Not all Democrats are good, and certainly not all Republicans are bad, but the Democratic party, nowadays, tends to attracts more people with good and loving hearts, it seems to me. After all, which party is the party of choice for racists, sexists, bigots, warmongers and people with hate in their hearts in general because they think that party will advance their agenda? Hint: it doesn’t start with a “D.”

I could as easily mischaracterize the Democratic Party as being full of race-baiters, radical feminists, anti-religious bigots, and pacifists. And there are plenty of Democrats with hate in their hearts.

There are two large parties in America, and they’re full of pleasant and unpleasant people alike. Your attempt to paint the Democrats as the party of near-godlike virtue doesn’t hold up, and can only be explained by blind partisanship on your part.
