The OP’s like a little kid who for Christmas 2016 got every toy he asked for, then spent the next year finding out that none of them worked, that none of them are nearly as much fun as the toy commercials implied. He could blame himself, but it’s easier to lash out at the people who tried to warn him those toys were junk. They better not warn him again, or else!
Anyway, a Democrat congress will be a present America can give to itself for Christmas 2018, although it’ll be one of those practical adult gifts, like a nice sweater or a set of winter tires. Sadly, too many American voters still love toy commercials and their empty promises. Real toy commercials have to carry disclaimers like “Doll does not actually talk”, but political-toy ads need not remind the viewer that “Warning, Mexico will never pay for a border wall” or “Warning, candidate claims mental illness is the source of gun violence but has voted eight times to cut Federal funding to mental health clinics.” More’s the pity.

Some background, when I first heard the budget deal I wanted to open a pit thread or go around my neighborhood and yell at people but I thought “We just got done with 8 years of Obama. Many time Obama did things that seemed weasely or weak or spineless to me - too much thought and not enough action. Most of those times I learned my preference was not as good as Obama’s, maybe the Democrats are going to get all this done with their deal-making even though it doesn’t make sense to me now.” So I waited. This is the completely predictable result.
At least the Dreamers can still dream!

The point is: nobody gives a shit about the shutdown. It’s not memorable. It’s not 9/11 or the Challenger explosion. It’s not going to hurt anybody’s political chances. On the other hand, demoralizing your base is the pinnacle of stupid, not that anybody here gets that with their “Hope for year 20## we can finally do something”. I liked my tough-guy Democratic party of 2017. Now its gelded over a shutdown nobody will give two shits about next month.
Shutting down the Government is a childish, foolish action. All you do is close some parks and cut services for a few days and not save any actual money. So you’re only hurting the public. ‘The Government’ is not some singular monolithic creature-self. It is made up of a few million people that we hired to do the work we the people need them to do in order to run our society from day to day. What the fuck good does it serve to jerk them around, cost some of them some money and cut some public services just to make a point about a law they can’t get signed into law?
Just as Trump has made it his personal mission to undo every single law and regulation that Obama passed, out of pure hatred and vindictiveness; when his time is done, one way or another almost every one of those laws and regulations is coming back. That’s not some kind of ‘you wait until we’re in the majority!’ things, that’s just a fact. He’s burning down shit just to burn down shit. Even a slightly less monstrous Republican is likely to do have to fix that.

I don’t keep a scorecard but my impression is that Inbred is a Democrat who happens to have centrist views on some issues.
