Dems want Hillary Clinton to leave spotlight

So reports The Hill. Before I’m jumped on by the usual crowd let me say first that I’m not a liberal, I have no strong feelings at this point about Clinton or her future activities and I do not particularly enjoy watching Democrats tussle over this. The election is long past, my passions have subsided and my comments of that period are regretted. Having said that I return to the topic.

Would liberal Dopers agree that Clinton should take Obama’s cue (who has been, along with George W Bush, a perfect role model for politicians who leave high office) and stay out of politics? Or should she, as she is clearly doing, jump right back in, as ambitious and committed as ever and with 2020 circled in her 5-year diary?

What interests me is whether the US media, which is pretty much anti-Clinton at present, truly reflects the thoughts of most liberal voters. I do have a feeling that whatever anyone else may think Hillary still has not abandoned her hopes of the Presidency and may well be contemplating a run. Should she?

I am a Democrat, and I want her gone.

In a race that was all about an Electorate that wanted a clear, energetic Domestic Policy, she kept yammering about Foreign Policy.
Her Domestic Policy was shabby, patchy, ill-formed, & unconvincing.
She was badly tainted by NAFTA.

Innocent or guilty, too much mud has been thrown by the GOP. She is damaged goods.

She blames everybody but herself for her losses.

Anybody who dares to criticism her is accused of hating all Women.

She lacked the sense to unify the Party by taking Sanders on as a Veep.

She does not come from the FDR tradition of the Democrats.
She embodies the Post-Watergate Democrats, who are just fine with banks that abuse the Working Classes, & avoid those selfsame Workers, preferring to sip wine on the patio with Professionals, Bankers, & Poli-Sci Professors from Berkley.

She was brushed off by the American Voter, twice.

I agree that Hillary should stay out of the spotlight for a while, not sure how long, but maybe for good. She is a distraction, unfortunately. She’s not the leader of the party anymore (if she ever was). A future run–not a good idea.

Are you surprised I agree with you? Hehe. Me, too.

Nothing changes my opinion about Clinton being the obvious better choice for president given the choice that we had. But her post-election appearances have been cringe-worthy. She just doesn’t get it. She lacks self-awareness. I think she’s still having a hard time accepting her defeat and wonders how the fuck she lost the election to someone so obviously flawed.

I don’t think she should run in 2020. She won’t get the nomination. The Dems don’t want to see Trump-Clinton II. And I say this as a Clinton voter in 2016.

The person who really needs to go away is Bernie Sanders. That vile shitbag has well outlived his 15 minutes of fame. No one in their right mind thinks Hillary is running again, but people are curious about he thoughts about 2016. The Democrats lost 2004 and 2000, but they were both expected to be toss up elections, coming down to a single state. There hasn’t been an electoral shock like this since 1948, which featured very primitive polling.

I got bad news for ya: Bernie ain’t goin’ away. The politics of moderation (the center right and center left) are over. When the country finally shifts away from Trump, it wouldn’t be a slight correction; it’ll be a sudden and hard swing to the left. I personally would welcome the return of the center - never thought we needed a revolution in the first place. But the center and its analytical politics are gone. The politics of the normal are gone - for a long time. Trump and the GOP will prove to be an unmitigated disaster, a last gasp by white Christian nationalists and corrupt corporatists to hold on to ‘their’ empire. And when people realize it, they will want to go as far away from that as possible. Bernie’s politics represent those who are disgusted with the right.

Both of the Clintons can go away quietly now and do charity work if they get bored, they have done more to serve their country than 2 people can be expected to. It’s ok, Democrats still like them just fine, but you know that slogan “move on”? Heed it, it’s for you guys, now.
And Bernie Sanders can represent in Congress to the end of his days, he’s valuable, a free thinker, compassionate and other good things. But stay out of Presidential races from here on out. There will never be a President Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, unless someone else with one of those names happens into it.
Let’s move it along, people.

It’s complicated. Hillary could have some use for the Dems and part of that could include being out there to keep her and Bill’s supporters engaged. She also might have an edge for some donation lines of attack.

The problem nowadays is that she would have to be hyper careful. As the “deplorables” incident shows, you can’t just confine your comments to your local audience. Even 15 years ago, nobody would have heard that snark outside the lgbt community.

Actually, I hope Bernie’s corrupt wife goes away. Nothing would make me happier than to see a steel jail cell closing on Jane Sanders, wiping those smug smirks off both of their faces.

There’s a reason why Shitbag Sanders followed the lead of Donald Trump and never released his taxes.

And at least half of his supporters are deplorable, too. Probably more! I’m sure the Democrats don’t need them anyway.

And just who’s aiming this spotlight in the first place? If you don’t want to give Clinton any attention, then don’t give her any attention. It’s simple.

The media is aiming the spotlight. The media loves to give her a microphone, and she’s going to suck up the oxygen in the room, as the saying goes. It’s not about whether people will choose to listen to her or not-- they will. It’s whether she can step aside and let the next generation do what she failed to do.

If Clinton wants to open up she should talk about Shattered. Now that would be fun.

That’s a long article. Could you quote or point out the corruption and jail worthy actions of Mrs Sanders?

I’am sure the GOP will give her all the support and encouragement to run she wants.

Because they beat her before? So they would want to go against her again? Brilliant. What a clever insight. Please do keep it up.

Well, it’s better than the Dems losing her third presidential bid.

Same here. While I enjoyed her Wellesley commencement speech, I think she needs to lower her profile and stop blaming everyone else for losing the election. If she’d have against Trump in spite of her flaws and the Russian interference if she’d ran a better campaign.

I think she’d beat Trump handily in 2020 because almost any Democrat could beat Trump handily in 2020.

Lightning striking once doesn’t make lightning a non-rare occurrence.
