I refuse to be a member of a party led by her and her husband. They are free to vote for Democrats, as is anyone. But they should leave the party and get out of the way, or expect to be pushed out. I’m afraid that the Democratic Party cannot function as a national party with them in charge, for whatever mix of reasons.
I laughed.
OK, that’s worth a small chuckle too.
Seriously, though, I think the Clintons managed over a generation to destroy the Democratic Party through neglect, because they were more interested in their own careers than in a viable national coalition. They didn’t have much of a party to lead to victory last year, and they didn’t have an inspiring track record to continue.
Hillary and Bill are 69 and 70 years old, they have a role to play in the party, but no expects them to be leading the party for the next decade. They’re both worthy of respect and have a lot to pass on to the younger members of the party. Bill Clinton was an excellent president and Hillary was an excellent Secretary of State and Senator. They certainly don’t need to be pushed anywhere

The TLDR version is that Jane Sanders is being investigated for falsifying information on loan documents when she was president of Burlington College.
Here’s a short version.

Amen to that. They both need to shut up and go away. They and their cronies are NOT the future of the Democratic Party if it has any hope to ever win again. The are corporatists first and foremost and have completely lost the ability to connect with the working class, blue collar voters the party needs to succeed in future elections. Their time has passed and the greatest service they could do is go enjoy retirement with their grandchildren.
I’ve said before that the USA is turning in many ways into the late great USSR in its golden years, what with mass incarceration, pointless wars of aggression, dislike of unionism etc. etc., yet now it it functioning as much of a gerontocracy as Leonid and his Politburo Ravers.
Your much respected leader, the winnah, is of an age with them; and he hasn’t exactly surrounded himself with youth.
Doesn’t somebody need to be in charge of the Democrats, setting the line, bringing on new candidates, and so on?
Hmm, well there’s no indication in that story that she profited so “corruption” seems a reach. But still, I don’t see this story on real news sites with “the hill” being the closest to respectable.
It’s kind of interesting to see what’s happening to the political left in this country.
Everyone has been saying for the past 8 years that the radical right wing of the Republican party is going to destroy the party – and yet here they are pretty much with as much power as the Democrats had throughout much of the mid-20th Century. The radical right simply shoved its moderates out of the party and now they are gearing up for a holy war against the progressives.
Democrats meanwhile are still trying to figure out who they are: are they the party of Bernie and Occupy, or are they still receptive to the DNC nominating process. I get the feeling that generation Xers and boomers are open to a wider range of options while the younger Democrats are done with name-brand politicians and want someone a little more organic and aggressive.
Yes, someone does need to be doing these things, and it’s not clear that this is happening. The loss of 2016 was utterly devastating for many reasons, but one of the reasons why it was so painful is because it has harmed the credibility of the DNC structure. The grass roots voters don’t trust it to give voters good choices of candidates, and I’m guessing the political boosters wonder if the DNC is competent enough to use their contributions wisely, and if their interests will align with those of the grass roots voters who are itching for someone different altogether.
Indeed, I wonder whom Bill, Hillary and Chelsea will choose !
Democrats may secretly WISH Hillary would go away, but she’s not inclined to do so, and thus far, not enough Democrats have TOLD her to.
If anything, Hillary is acting like someone who got screwed over, and is determined to try for revenge in 2020. Frankly, I’ll be very surprised if she DOESN’T run again.
There is no danger whatever of her running again. We need someone from the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party. The Berniebots are still pissed at her and she won’t have the benefit of having started running for the nomination six years in advance.
I’m sure she’s bitter and she has every right to be. She was the victim of a right wing smear campaign for over 25 years. She was victimized by Putin and his American agents that currently reside in the White House. The only issue discussed in the campaign was her fucking emails which now seems like the speck in her eye compared with the plank in her opponent’s eye. She was victimized by an extremely ill-advised intrusion into the race by the FBI director. Did she run a crappy campaign? Damn straight. But she did not deserve to lose to the most unqualified candidate in the history of civilization.
So her speaking out doesn’t bother me in the least. Now more than ever we need to hear from all the resistance. When that felon in the White House is removed from office, convicted, and sent to a supermax, THEN she can fade into the sunset.
I missed the part where you explained WHY she won’t run again.
I think she will. I’m NOT predicting she’ll get the nomination, but I’m almost certain she WILL run again. She still feels entitled to the job, and she thinks she was cheated out of it last time.
Tell me why she WON’T try again.
I think she won’t because at some point (assuming she’s even still interested) she’ll start asking other prominent Democrats, in private, whether she should run again, and most or all of them will tell her no.
Because she’ll be too old, turning 73 a week before the 2020 election. She may be a tough old bird, but in four years she’ll be more old than tough. The 2016 loss was devastating, there is no way she wants to go through that again. Time for her to put up her feet and relax for the rest of her days.
Former presidents get to step aside and say “not MY problem any more; this what you wanted? good luck, I KNOW you’ll need it”. The one who had it snatched from her grasp at the last moment will have a harder time letting go of it. But she has to refocus on calling out the wrongs and evils of the incumbents and not on relitigating her own loss. As the cowboy said “deserve” got nothing to do with it. You had your two shots, it was not meant to be, time to help rebuild for those who will come next.
Do you realize that Bernie is still a US Senator? The people of Vermont love him, and he will most likely only go away when he decides to retire.
She could run again but she wouldn’t be very successful. She’d get beaten in the primaries, and if they put someone like Corey Booker against her, it wouldn’t even be close. Not that Booker’s necessarily the magic candidate, but he’d probably bring out a lot of the coalitions that made Bernie and Barack popular candidates, and who have a loathing for someone like Hillary. And even her establishment base has probably given up on her. I mean, let’s be brutally honest: despite having MASSIVE advantages in terms of name recognition, campaign funds that rival the GDP of small nations, and a left-wing desire to see a female president, she has been beaten by the most disgusting candidate in American history in 2016 and a black guy with a Muslim name 8 years earlier. And she nearly lost to a cranky Brooklynite academic who looks like an absent-minded professor. At some point, you just gotta say “It just ain’t in the cards, Hillary.”
The media isn’t aiming the spotlight. The media is the spotlight. If people didn’t pay any attention when they put a microphone in front of Clinton, they would stop doing it. If people do pay attention, then that’s on them.
