I don’t agree with everything DT posts, and yeah, sometimes I think his hyperbole gets in the way of his message, but overall I like the cut of his jib and think it’s great that he’s blunt about what he thinks.
Dude is almost at the level of the Westboro Baptist church when it comes to the American military. Almost.
He’s just as bad as the people he hates (well, the people he hates the most, since he seems to hate just about everybody). As I said in the other thread, he’s exactly like GW Bush or any religious fundamentalist. He’s impervious to facts that don’t fit his pre-conceived ideas, and he will never admit he’s wrong on anything related to politics or religion. He’s a sad little man filled with hate and anger.

Yes seriously. When I saw the first one I thought to myself, “Hm, you know, it’s been a while since he’s been Pitted that I can remember.” and then I look a little further down the list and bam, number two. So apparently people are just trying to make up for having gone a few months without Pitting him.
EDIT: I’ll also come out and say that he has a certain amount of respect from me as well. He at least intelligently presents his ideas (when he runs out of hyperbole of course) and does actively participate and make contributions to subjects that do not fall under his umbrella of passionate topics. And when he does make these contributions, they are usually well-spoken and intelligent.
I recall getting into it with him in a Pit thread a few years back after I mentioned that my best friend of 20 years is an atheist. His immediate conclusion was that my friend was lying when he said he respected me and my theism. I know that my friend doesn’t think my beliefs are correct, but I do know that he knows that I’ve come to them through honest reflection, just as I know that my friend came to his beliefs the same way. But according to Der Trihs, my friend secretly detests me and lies about respecting me. One of the reasons he’s been my friend for 20 years is because he’s one of the most honest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing, so I thoroughly resent the despicable implication that he is a liar.
From what I’ve seen of his posts on this issue, he tends to be very heperbolic, but is largely correct about the overall issues.
[It’s hard to tell for sure, though. ISTR one thread where he insisted that the main purpose of child support is to take money from men and give it to women. While it obviously has that effect - and while the abusive situation that DT bemoaned is in fact fairly commonplace - it’s certainly not the intent. But it’s hard to be sure if DT really thinks it is either or is just engaging in some over-the-top rhetoric.]

Yeah. I sort of like the guy. He can be very charming when he’s not ranting.
No he isn’t and he doesn’t and he isn’t. He thinks Christians are out to kill him, that women are constantly trying to fuck men over–in the bad metaphorical way–and that George Bush invaded Iraq because he had a lust to kill Arabs.
His sole cites are “I recall reading” or “I have heard that…” He doesn’t present any facts or logic behind his assertions, mostly because to call them hyperbolic doesn’t begin to do them justice. He does not appear to read any books or magazines besides poorly written SF potboilers.
I don’t mind him, mainly because unlike other SDMB crazies like, say, Dio or Lib, his posts don’t seem to derail threads that much. But I’m continually baffled by other lefties claiming that he presents good arguments for their side. He’s like the Glen Beck of the SDMB, only on the other side.
Even on the subject of Comic Books, his supposed wheelhouse, I can think of at least four other posters who are more informed and worth reading than he is.

I think some people may be confused because he’s pro-choice. But he’s not pro-choice because he favors women’s rights, he’s pro-choice because he hates Christians even more than he hates women.
He’s OK on a lot of things, but he is absolutely a misogynist. It’s extremely unpleasant to watch him erect ever-more-insane straw men regarding what women do and want, and then proceed to kick the crap out of the things. He is not someone I would want to be around in real life.

Early on I asked him for cites many times and he ignored every one of them even though he kept posting in the thread and was quoting people who had posted after I asked for a cite.
His non-insane moments are mostly in Cafe Society, I think.
