He is one of those people whose posts I usually just skip over. I don’t have him on ignore or anything; I’ve just seen him post crazy over-the-top bullshit so many times that I know he’s not worth responding to or engaging with on a lot of topics.
And yes, the overt misogyny is creepy and bothersome.
Der Trihs began writing screeds that list off Men’s Rights Talking Points relatively recently, or am I merely unobservant? I’ve always known him as that guy who hates religious people, thinks Americans are uniquely sociopathic, and – worst of all – gravely misunderstands proper use of semicolons. (See that dot on top? That means it’s not a comma.) Then all of a sudden I notice him advocating surreptitious recording of sexual encounters because those mean ol’ women are just itching to make false accusations of rape. Now he lets us know that men are studied more in medical contexts because of society’s callous attitude toward men’s suffering, a claim taken straight out of the MRA playbook.
A shame. I don’t think he’s genuinely a bad person; in the right contexts he can be amusing or helpful. Oh, well.
All I have to contribute here is that I nearly always stop following a thread when I see that Der Trihs has infested it. Once he shows up, there’s virtually zero chance that the thread will remain interesting and/or entertaining.
Maybe the old adage is true (although sort of flipped in this case). How they say people who profess to hate homosexuals often are homosexual themselves. Maybe he hates women and calls others woman haters as a cover.
I honestly expected him to wind up banned within a few months when he first started posting. I don’t really care that he wasn’t, but equally it wouldn’t bother me if he was. As it is his screeds are impossible to take seriously and have become background noise.
And to add to the chorus, his misogyny is creepier than his political views.
This exactly and it’s a shame. As someone who was brought up as a Christian Fundamentalist and is now Agnostic/Atheist, I would love to read and contribute to many threads in Great Debates about religion. But the second post of most of these threads is Der Westboro flinging his own brand of hate and the thread is instantly ruined.
Wow, I bet you’re right! I’d never thought about it like that. It actually makes a lot of sense really. He thinks religious people hate women, Republicans hate women, anti-abortionists hate women. But in the next breath he’ll post something about how “The women are always keepin’ him down”.
Maybe not. If someone took the time to pit me (unlikely — I’m insufficiently prolific and too lovable besides), I’d probably avoid it. But my cowardice is the stuff of legends.
