No, there was no preview I saw where that line was uttered. Would have spoiled the whole premise.

The whole premise behind John’s roommate being Gabby’s lawnboy was for him to blackmail her into doing the horizontal boogie with him so he could see whether he was gay or not. When she confronted him on the blackmail he stated he had been “experimenting” with a ‘buddy’ (no name mentioned). She kissed him, he felt nothing, she said “You’re gay”.
So yeah, there was something leading up to the pool scene.

I totally called who the gay lover was when the roomie said he had been experimenting. Love it. “I’m not gay!!!”
We were trying to figure out what crazy kid (Zach?) is going to do Susan’s daughter; my friend says rape, I’m not too sure. Something is going to go down, though.
Susan wants to hate Mike, it isn’t going to happen. They’ll end up together- after all, they are the happy couple.
Gabby absolutely cannot and must not move! She’ll be out of the show! I’m sure something will come up to make them stay next week.

I totally agree that she was manipulative and is a bitch, but if you were in her shoes what would you have done? She gave up her entire career to raise a family, he could easily be in her shoes (stay at home dad). Her husband is already hardly ever home and he is working in town; he himself said it was going to be way worse (him being out). I agree it was bad, but I can’t say I would have acted differently. Although, she should have just been honest with her feelings.
Yeah, I’d caught the scene with John’s roommate and Gabi, which is why I knew – guessed? – one of the kids in the pool was him – but I couldn’t recognize the other with his hair all wet. Sometimes it doesn’t work all that well to be watching TV from the other room.
Yeah, Gabi can’t leave Magnolia Lane – maybe they’ll end up over someone’s garage or something. Or in a smaller house – they clearly have the biggest house on the block now.
I liked the scene between her and John at the end – it’s nice to know there’s some real feelings between those two.

Well, it would explain his angst and need to get drunk. PC or not, teens have a lot of issues and coming to terms with one’s sexuality is a biggie. Being gay is still not accepted by the majority of the world, hence why this would be a cause for some drama. A gay right’s group may not care about his drunk driving episode, but they may object if they don’t pursue this and have him suddenly be not gay.

My daughter, who has not previously watched this show, said that she throught the creepy kid was going to get a gun and shoot up the party.
I told her that that would be much too conventional for this show…
No! Here’s what would happen:
Zach would shoot up the part, killing everyone who was in attendance. Dad would come, clean up the mess and act like nothing ever happened. Within 2 weeks the entire event will go completely unmentioned on the show.

What’s up with Deirdre’s father, the guy Mike is working for, talking to that cop at the end of the show? It’s set up to look like a betrayal, but that’s pretty convoluted, even for DH.
