Desperate Housewives 5/21: season 2 finale (SPOILERS)

A mixed bag for me.

Kind of a bait-and-switch resolution to the Batty Applewhack storyline (and wasn’t Melanie supposed to have been killed with an axe?). I’m surprised Batty got let out of jail since her business cards actually read “Flight Risk” and I’m surprised that the police would let her leave the jurisdiction. You’d think she’d still be wanted on charges of harboring a fugitive, obstruction of justice and so on. Although maybe the police figured having her son gunned down was punishment enough.

I don’t get why Bree had to escape from the institution. She did commit herself voluntarily and she posed no apparent danger to herself or the community so I’m at a loss as to how Dr Smug could hold her against her will. I did like Bree’s “I blew it with Andrew and I’m not going to blow it with Danielle” attitude, so I hope she apologizes to Danielle for calling her stupid.

Susan. Sigh. It’s the brand-new Susan, again, some more. This makes what, the fifteenth or so time she’s had the “I need to stand on my own two feet” moment with Carl, Mike or both? Boring.

So is Carlos going to go back to jail? What with paying someone to do his community service and having the guy end up dead? What am I saying, of course he won’t go back to jail!

Orson the dentist…what is your secret? Did it perhaps involve being someone’s prison bitch, and if so was it Mike, and if so is there video? Apparently the woman in the wheelchair has something to do with it. Zach’s grandmother, perhaps, who’s never recovered from the junkie mother going missing? Was she old enough to be a grandma? And Orson is, what, a long-lost brother? Former lover?

And speaking of Zach, like father(s) like son, I guess. It’s so sweet when families pass on their traditions, like homicide, from one generation to the next.

Good call, everyone who put Tom on having another kid. Lynette’s dealing with it amazingly well, considering. Lynette at the diner is how I like Lynette the best. She gets pushed, she pushes right back. “Did I say that loudly enough?” Heh. Maybe the mom can get a job dancing at the same bar as Lilly’s mom and they can form some sort of Wisteria Lane babies Out Of Wedlock Society.

So, the twins are seven? Do they look like they could be seven? I’m not around kids so I have no idea how big a seven-year-old is. And they’re older than the other boy (Parker? Is he named Parker?)? I always thought the single boy was the oldest, then the twins, then Penny.

Oh yes, and of course another crazy man makes a beeline for Bree. A Breeline, even. At this rate she’ll have worked her way through the entire DSM by season 4.

Ditto.

This is the first episode in awhile that I’ve come out liking all the housewives, especially Lynette smacking down whatsherface in the diner.

I loved the way that Bree’s attempt to get the cleaning guy to let her go failed. Nice twisting of that staple. I guess the water fountain through the window method isn’t her style.

Loved the flashbacks and the dated hair styles. Have we seen Mary Alice in the flesh before? She’s a hottie.

Mary Alice was seen in the first episode and made appearances as flashbacks in several early episodes. I remember the actress from other roles, especially Seinfeld. A definite hottie.

I think Grandpa Lifesupport was secretly wanting an exit, and since Dr. Kevorkian isn’t around, he goaded Zach into pulling the plug.

The actress who plays Mary Alice (I think her name is Brenda Strong) has been on an episode of Star Trek: TNG. She and Felicity Huffman both acted in Sports Night.

Anyone think it was Zach mowing down Mike, not Orson? That one threw me for a loop.

I’m glad Carlos wasn’t dead.

The lady that played Nora (Tom’s one night stand), I think, was on A Different World with Lisa Bonet and Jasmine Guy.

I liked how we saw all the Wistera Ladies moving into their new homes.

I got home late and only saw the last fifteen minutes! I need more details!

I fell asleep and missed the last 15 minutes! Trade?

Bree threw sand in the eyes of her psychiatrist and escaped Fairview Meadows. Orson visits his catatonic mother there 3-4 days a week, and he and Bree have a chat while she’s at the hospital.

Karl saw Mike buying an engagement ring. Susan and Julie are staying in an RV. Karl bought Susan a house. Karl and Mike got into a fistfight. During the fight Susan learns about the ring. Mike gets a chipped tooth in the fight. Susan sent Mike to Orson the Dentist, who did this whole “Have I seen you before?” and “You’ve been in prison? Prison dentistry is not pretty” and “I’ve done some prison dental work in Virginia.” Mike, noticing that Orson’s diploma is from U of Minnesota, mentions this fact, and Orson, about to jab Mike with a huge honking hypodermic, says he’s licensed in three states. Open wide and don’t move.

Lynette and the Ps were staying at a motel. She tells the kids it’s time to go, but they’re not going home, they’re going to stay at Grandma’s. She tells them Daddy loves them very much and will visit as much as he can, that they are still a family, they just won’t be living together. The Ps ask if they can go swimming.

Then, as they’re leaving the motel, one of the Ps pitches a fit because Lynette won’t let him go swimming. Since she’s blocking the door, he decides to dive from the balcony and breaks his arm.

At the hospital, Tom finally corners Lynette and tells her what’s up with Atlantic City: 12 years ago, before he met Lynette, he had a one night stand with this chick on a cruise. He recently found out she had a daughter, and DNA tests prove it is his. Lynette is upset, but relieved he wasn’t having an affair, and goes home.

Surprise, Atlantic City shows up wanting 11 years of back child support. Back and forth over how they can afford it, and the Scavos write a big check if Atlantic City will agree to not seek further support. She decides to put the money down on a house five minute’s away from the Scavos.

Gabrielle catches Carlos and Chinese Maid doing the nasty. She has Chinese Maid help her throw out all of Carlos’ clothes, but tells Chinese Maid she’s not going anywhere until the baby is born.

Susan gets Karl to sign the divorce papers, telling him she’s going to propose to Mike. She leaves Mike a note, he gives her a smile and indicates he will meet her for their romantic evening.

Danielle gets bitchy when she’s hungry, and since she and Matthew ran away without any money, decide to break into her former abode and get into her mother’s safe. Betty and Caleb have been arrested, and during the questioning, the police show photos of the murder scene to Betty. She realizes the jacket covering Melanie Foster is Matthew’s not Caleb’s. Flashbacks show that Caleb did hit Melanie with a stick, but it was not a fatal blow. Matthew shows up, and Melanie says she’s going to the police unless Matthew agrees to continue dating her. Matthew finishes the job.

Bree walks in as Danielle and Matthew are raiding the kitchen for food. She tries to get Danielle to listen to her about Matthew, but Danielle refuses. Bree blocks the door so they can’t leave, and Matthew pulls out a gun. Horrified, Danielle screams for Matthew to quit pointing the gun at her mother.

Bree, the Mother Bear, slowly walks closer to Matthew, saying if shooting her is the only way for Danielle to see the kind of man that Matthew is, go ahead and shoot her. A shot rings out! But it’s from a sniper bullet outside, and Matthew is dead. Betty and Caleb climb into a moving van and drive away.

Paul tells Zach to go see his grandfather and get money for a good defense attorney. Dying Grandpa goads Zach into turning off his life support. Zach learns he is the sole heir to Dead Grandpa’s vast estate, and when Paul calls again (he didn’t call collect, how did he do that if he’s in prison) asking if Zach got the money, Zach blows him off, hangs up, tosses the cell phone to the butler and tells him to get him a new one with a different number.

Susan drives the RV to the lake, makes it all pretty with lights and candles and a table set with wine, and waits for Mike. Mike (who drives a Nissan pathfinder, thanks product placement) drives to get flowers, and as he is crossing the street, he is hit by a car, driven by…Orson!

Susan forlornly leaves a message on Mike’s machine, saying she must have misunderstood his smile, and says she won’t bother him anymore. Orson shows up at Bree’s house with flowers. The End.

Did I miss anything?

Kittenblue and Delores Reborn

I always read this summary. I hope it helps. You guys do have it recorded or taped I hope.

deal! Last fifteen…Susan is setting up for a romantic evening at some trailer in the woods…tiny white lights, candles, wine. We see Mike leaving his house…and being follwed by a red car…

Gabby is at Lynette’s and the baby monitor picks up the sound of Carlos and the maid getting friendly…Gabby runs to the garage, where she sees her husand and the maid getting hot and sweaty. She returns home and waits for the maid, asks her if she’s done with her husband yet, then makes her go upstairs and throw Carlos’ clothes onto the lawn. Carlos says, hey, you said I could have an affair, now we’re even…but Gabby kicks him out anyway, and vows to make the maid regret it for the next nine months.

Lynette opens the door to an obviously unstable woman, and calls for Tom…the three sit down, and it becomes clear Tom had a child with this crazy girl, who announces that she doesn’t like Lynette’s attitiude and that she’s moving into a house a few blocks away and expects to be part of one, big, happy, holiday-celebrating family…or she’ll scream and hold her breath, apparently.

Matthew and Danielle come home and try to break open Bree’s safe…Matthew goes to his house for a crowbar and to rifle Betty’s purse…she confronts him that he’s the real killer, and he says it’s because he always loved Caleb best…goes back, breaks open safe, and the pair are confronted by Bree. She tells Danielle that Matthew killed Melanie, but she doesn’t believe her until Matthew pulls a gun on Bree, who says she’s willing to take a bullet in the head if it will save Danielle and convince her Matthew’s bad news. But the SWAT team that Betty called takes Matthew out with one shot before he can pull the trigger (where was this SWAT team when ER needed them).

Mike leaves a florist’s shop (where did he find one open after 5?) and admires the ring he’s carrying. Unfortunately, as he crosses the street he is run down by the red car…driven by Orson! Susan, left alone at the trailer in the woods, calls Mike and leaves a message…guess I misunderstood, sorry, bye)

Orson shows up the next morning with flowers for…Bree? and she invites him in. I obviously have missed something here!

Then flashbacks to Mary Alice and the other wives all moving in as happy young couples, and Betty and Caleb moving out in the middle of the night.

Orson and Bree ran into each other in the mental hospital while he was visiting catatonic lady, and Orson was there when Bree escaped. Since Bree is a magnet for crazy, he came a-courtin’ the next day.

I thought it was Carl, but couldn’t imagine that he would be that nuts.

Marisa Tomei was on “A Different World”. Kiersten Warren is Nora; looks like she was on “Saved by the Bell” and “Life Goes On”.

And since when do the cops get there that quick, with snipers, to bring someone down with that good a shot?

How will Xiao Mei get out of being under Gabby’s thumb for the next eight months?

Oh, I know it wasn’t Marisa Tomei…it was the other white girl on the show.

Brenda Strong was also the captain of the Rodger Young on Starship Troopers. I don’t think Zach dislikes Mike… he knows Mike is his real dad, right?

Betty Applewhite called the cops after talking to Matthew. Apparently, they sent a SWAT team, and the cop had a laser sight.

Yep, and I thought I was being clever figuring out it wasn’t Carl!

I liked this episode. It made me laugh instead of rolling my eyes all the time. That’s why I watch this show-- for the clever writing. Lynnette’s interaction with Trailer-Trash Girl was hilarious.

I didn’t even care about the ludicrous resolution to the Applewhitess situtation. Just gets those guys out of Wysteria Lane!!

I thought Lynnette’s kid in the flashback looked eerily like a younger version of the real thing. Good casting (or good make-up).

The janitor’s little torment of Bree was classic. That one had me in stitches.

Great way to end the season!

Thanks, kittenblue! Sorry I’m so late - I had to go to a stoopit meeting. Did the others 'splain things enough? If not, fire away!

Yes. They went bowling together. I just couldn’t figure out who would be gunning for Mike. I knew it wasn’t Karl…he’s sneaky, but not vindictive. He’s more the behind-the-scenes-let’s-see-how-I-can-screw-this-up-by-doing-this type.

You know, the more I think about this, the more I’m fretting that I’m getting my 80s tweenie shows mixed up. This is going to bother me. Someone put me out of my misery!

At first I thought Edie would have plowed down Mike just to hurt Susan, but then I wasn’t sure that even Edie would kill someone. Burn down a house, extort, yes, but not kill. Orson!!!

Zach is quite the little bit of royalty now, isn’t he? “Fill in that stupid lake.”

Running over, pushing the off switch, shooting, flashback to a beating death, two guys fighting, and Lynnette going off on the gal. That was some good stuff.

Susan with a perm—bwa ha ha ha ha!

I still don’t feel very sorry for Danielle. But I am curious to know what will become of Andrew.
