Deus Ex: Human Revolution

How do I tell if I got this? I bought it through Steam. It says it’s set to automatically download new updates, but I can’t see anywhere to see if it actually did it.

It should have done it already, i think. Sorry, i am not sure how you can actually check.

Doesn’t Amazon have a release-date delivery for preordered games? I know the last two or three games I’ve preordered from them were delivered on release day. I’m surprised they didn’t do that for a major game such as this.

I first ordered it on Amazon before I saw that Steam had it for cheaper. They definitely had same-day delivery for pre-orders.

If I go to my apartment and drop some weapons, will they still be there? I just found the sniper rifle and it’s huge but I only have 3 rounds for it.

I haven’t gotten too far into the game yet, but I haven’t had any dropped items disappear on me, even stuff I’ve stashed in the corner of a dark alley.

They did while i was in Detroit, but then you go somewhere else and i am not sure if you get to come back. I would imagine you do since you work there.

Nope, looks like that guy just didn’t qualify as a boss. Seriously, first boss: walk in room, see cutscene, get shot at. I was playing stealth and nokill so I had no lethal weapons, so I have to find the ones scattered about the room. Unfortunately, he hits really frickin hard too. It’s kind of bullshit, I’ve been a flawless infiltrator and then they’re like “lolkillguy.” I guess that’s why the nokill achievement excludes bosses.

To be fair, those particular individuals are exceptional, posess the resources to isolate you for a mano-a-mano grudge match, and have every reason to use lethal force on you.

I do wish they’d included paths to just ignore those people, but c’est la vie. Even in the original Deus Ex, most bosses were mandatory. Nokill runs used glitches to evade.

Speaking of the first boss, how did you guys beat him?

Dude packs a punch!

I tried staying in cover and sprinting for more cover when he got close while taking shots at him with my combat rifle. But he usually take me down to 10-40 health while I run for cover (dude does not miss).

Any tips?

I tossed a grenade at him and it stunned him for a few seconds, then I unloaded a full clip at his face. There are toxic gas canisters around the room you can throw at him and shoot mid air that will stun him also. Shooting him while he’s stunned is the only way I could win, he doesn’t seem to need to ever reload and does a ton of damage.

Oooh, EMP grenades. I’ve got one of those.

I also had a gas grenade but I had to use that on a couple of guys watching TV I just couldn’t get around.

“Oh man, did you let loose one?”

“Wasn’t me!”

“Pig! Man… if I wasn’t feelin so sleepy I’d kick your assssss…”

I blew him away with the rocket launcher I found in the room off of the area with the big walking robot tank thing. It took that, and a couple grenades, and about 5 reloads, but I did it!

Stay behind the pillar on the right side of the room on the side you enter, take pot shots at hit. When he gets to close, stun him (grenade, stun gun), take a few pot shots at his head, and run to the far side of the room (staying on the right). If he uses a grenade and it gets on the side of the pillar you are, stun gun him and run prematurely.

Really enjoying it so far- it looks good even on an older computer, the story is really interesting and engaging, and the world feels dynamic, fluid, and plausible.

Glad to see the non-lethal option is back, too. I managed to get through the first level (the assembly plant one) entirely in a non-lethal capacity, but since there’s not enough ammo for the stun gun or tranquiliser rifle about, I’ve modified my style for the subsequent missions whereby the initial engagement is non-lethal, but if I get spotted and attacked, then the safety comes off and it’s live ammo time.

I love the little things like e-mails from Joseph Manderly, and I also came across the names Bob Page (well Page Industries, at least) and Walt Simmons.

I love how the secretary in your building says something about your mirror not being ready yet in an annoyed voice. If you check your emails at home it becomes clear that you’ve been pestering them about it. Then if you hack the computer in the lobby you see an email

From their supply warehouse saying that the mirror has been waiting there for weeks and if they don’t pick it up soon they’re going to send it back.

Also, did anyone notice the heliplane thing Malik drives has a weird serial number? I think it’s 800-BEE (Boobie?)

I’ve a quick question, please forgive me if it’s already been mentioned but I desperately want to avoid spoilers…

I’m going the non-lethal (mostly) pacifist route. Do I lose out on experience if I just avoid all the enemies as opposed to knocking them all out?

I’m aghast that the new version kept all of these things. The reload I can deal with, but I hate, hate, hate the inventory system. I feel like I’m playing Tetris when I want a new item, and it annoys me to no end that I can’t look at something without it being in inventory.

Yeah, you would lose the exp from knocking them out. Playing stealthy gives you the ghost bonus when you manage to get through a level without being seen, and the smooth operator bonus when you get through without triggering an alarm (this one only works in missions that have alarms, so you don’t get it as oftem). It’s 50 exp per manual take down and i believe 30 for using a stun gun or tranq rifle, which is really not a big deal if you want to play that way. It would take skipping 100 baddies to miss out on a single praxis point, and you get plenty of them.
