I believe I said “Yes you are” as well. And I laughed a lot at it. I think we were supposed to laugh… or at least I hope so.
Deb was acting like the world’s clingiest and insecure girlfriend got cheated on.
And as to point 1, she didn’t just ignore Rita, but she didn’t ask if he killed Harry, their mother, the neighbor’s dogs, Rita’s ex, Brian/the doctor, Lila, Doakes, Trinity, Lundy, Lumen’s rapists, his former BFF and his brothers (Jimmy Smits). Ask “Did Rita know? Does anyone else know?” Maybe I missed a few things when I spaced out due to boredom or headdesking through the stupidity, but I’d have had a lot more to say and ask than “What are you thinking?” every 10 seconds.
ETA - inthe scene - She asked if he was - he hinted or said yes - she said “does that mean” - he said, “Dont go there”. ALso the code specifically says to protect himself as well - so mr. Computer Genius is a valid target - as would anyone else that learns or threatens Dex’s exposure.
But LaGuerta got the slides sent to her personally and made a big deal about it being something she wasn’t sharing. So unless Deb finds out what LaGuerta is doing, she (and Dexter) think they’re the only ones who know/suspect.
The convict scene was great and one of the most memorable one episode mini-stories in the history of the show. The guy totally manipulates us- (“oh, he has a conscience”, etc.) but then gets the last word. If I were in his shoes (shackles?), a wild goose chase, sunshine and softserve would be the best way to depart. A Mac truck jump takes guts.
The eastern European angle is pretty limp right now. Deb is pathetic, but her knowing definitely makes things more interesting…
Question 1: What did the slide confirm or tell her… that it was the dead guy’s blood?
Question 2: Why was Dexter’s dad worried that Little Dexter would kill Little Deb’s dog? Are we aware of things he had done or are they hinting at him having done bad things?
Answer 1: Slides at a suspicous death tht match the Bay Harbor Butchers slides - indicate that he BHB may not have been doakes (she never bought that it was) and that he may still be alive (not doakes, but the BHB)
Answer 2: Dex had already been killing pets/animals - it was that discovery that led dad to help him focus his dark energies.
An earlier episode showed Harry taking Dex (as a teenager, somewhat older than these most recent flashbacks) hunting. Harry wounds a deer and as a reward, lets Dex finish it off with a knife in what I assume was the slow cruel way Dex craved (and which, incidentally, is rather unlike the small facial cut and single stab to the chest we’ve seen him favour since episode one).
In the beginning it was established that he normally “plays” with his victims for awhile before delivering the coup de gras. He’ll finish the deed quickly if he’s pressed for time, but it doesn’t quite satisfy his thirst for blood. I’m pretty sure that most of the time we’re expected to pretend we’re seeing an abridged version of the kill on screen.
Yes, which means it’s unlikely his death was a suicide. Also, being the same MO as Doakes means either Doakes is still running around or that Doakes was framed.
I’m pretty sure Doakes was confirmed dead, so I doubt that’s going to be a consideration (or if it is, I’m going to lose a lot of respect for this show).
I hope Dexter is paying Jaime a shit-ton of money to raise his kid for him.
I thought the same thing when Deb told Dexter to move in with her: “Uhhhh, what about Harrison? Where is he??” Geez, just make a storyline where he puts the kid up for adoption for heaven’s sake, it’s not like he has anything to do with him.
I feel so bad for Jaime’s character - the poor girl has no life from constantly “babysitting” and now the writers have given her a psychopath for a boyfriend.
Deb is the single most annoying character I have ever encountered on a TV show. She is dumber than a box of rocks and needs her cop badge taken away with extreme prejudice. I’m only watching this show out of habit now because my “suspension of disbelief” is stretched beyond it’s limit.
He’s crucial to the last scene of the show where we see Dexter die in some gruesome way and Harrison sees it and the camera pans backwards slowly and we all say “another serial killer is born.”
That’s got to be the only reason why they’re keeping that character around. It’s pretty easy to write out a child - on “Rescue Me” the one guy was a single dad and his girlfriend (played by Susan Sarandon) essentially kidnaps his daughter and he was perfectly fine with that. No mention was ever made of the kid again.
I hope that eventually SOMETHING happens with Harrison because the writing around that kid (actually the lack thereof) right now is annoying as hell.
