I thought maybe you hadn’t because he definitely hit on her at his place.
By that time they were already having a romantic date at his place, hitting on her at that point was a forgone conclusion - brought about by her putting the moves on him and not buying his objections.
I can see Doakes getting set up somehow. His recent questionable shootings make that a good possibility. However, I don’t see him possessing the slides as much use in that direction. They must have Dexter’s prints aaaall over them and it’s so obviously a “lab rat”'s type of trophy that it just doesn’t sit right on the tough ex-special ops cop. He’d keep their ears or something.
I don’t see Doakes letting Dexter get away with murder even if he approves of vigilantism in principle. Not after Dexter screwed him on that blood work that had him interrogating the innocent Dad, not to mention headbutting him to force the suspension-getting assault. No, it’s to the death with those two.
It’s really amazing how they shoot Michael C. Hall to look so evil – like when he was leaving Lila’s place and walking with his eyes in shadow.
As mere speculation, I don’t think it would be too farfetched for Dexter to fake another overdose to get Lila out of the picture. He now knows where to find a whole lot of cocaine.
That was sure a quick trip from the isolated cabin to Rita’s house wasn’t it !!
I can see Doakes being killed and the offcie cfrew being told that he gone off on that special job that whats-her-name set up.
But I can’t see who kills him. It would be inappropriate for Dexter - breaking the rules. It would be in line for Lila to bump him off coming out of Dexters place and Dexter just cleans up after her.
It will definitely be an interesting episode Sunday night.
Did he fake one before? I missed that.
I was wondering if the insurance company or fire department wouldn’t come after Lila for commiting a crime. I know the insurance department can only infer and not pay the claim but the fire department was there and saw the same signs Dexter did. Makes me wonder if Lila won’t be taken into custody.
Good point - I thought casting Rudy last season with very fine, delicate features against Dexter with his sort of blunt, heavy features and heavy brow made the contrast between the brothers sharper. And scarier.
Paul – Dexter either shot him up or made it look like Paul was using. I forget.
Dexter knocked him out at Rita’s and carted him back to Paul’s place, where he shot him up and left the needle dangling out of his arm.
I think all the Doakes theories here are unfounded.
-
Doakes can’t be setup
-
Doakes can’t be killed without Dexter falling
-
Doakes does not fit the profile of a serial killer, his rage is too hot blooded, he is not methodical and secretive. He is a wolf, not a snake.
-
Doakes is one of the good guys, he isn’t a murderer falling through the cracks. Dexter would fall from grace if he killed him, it would be a violation of Harry’s code, it would be the first person he kills who doesn’t deserve it.
I was all for Lilah and Dexter getting together, it just made sense, but at this point Lilah needs to go down. She’s a fabulous femme fatale though. OT My wife said that she relates to Rita because of Lilah because before we got married I left her for a crazy femme fatale painter for a while. It’s made a soft spot in my heart for Lilah.
I think I’ll be disappointed if this season doesn’t end with Dexter’s capture.
they did sign dexter up for season 3.
I don’t know if I can buy that Doakes is one of the good guys. He’s obsessive and moralistic. I don’t see him as a serial killer, but easily a mass murderer. In fact, I’d say he’s just one piss-me-off glare away from it.
ETA: Thanks, rocking chair! Good news.
I kind of actually want to see Dexter faced with breaking his rules. A minor thing that’s bugged me this season is that Dexter seems to have become less emotionless and cold.
Last season a big deal was made of Dexter having to fake feelings and emotion. Remember how he got together with Rita because she was afraid of being intimate? It was a convenient cover for Dexter.
I realize they have to walk a fine line in order to have us sympathize with Dexter, but this season he seems just a tad too vigilante, a tad too emotional and a little inconsistant with the character we were introduced too last season.
Ah, I misunderstood. I thought Judith Prietht was referring to Dex faking his own OD to back up his addiction story. I do remember his setting Paul up.
But his becomng less emotionless and cold is actually great character development. Dexter’s been telling us all along that he’s a sociopathic monster but some of us have been questioning all along whether he’s really a sociopathic monster or does he just think he’s a sociopathic monster because Harry drummed it into him that he’s a sociopathic monster? Did Harry teach Dexter not to get caught or did he train Dexter to be the killing tool of vengeance that Harry himself couldn’t be? We’ve spent the last season and a half watching Dexter’s faith in harry be undermined by one thing after another. One underpinning of that faith is Harry’s insistence on Dexter’s monsterhood. If Harry was wrong about that and Dexter is beginning to understand that he was wrong about it, it would make perfect sense that the emotions that Dexter really had all along but was trained to pretend he didn’t would start breaking through.
Right, but what he is hypothetically capable of and what he has done are two different things. Doakes needs to step into the wild side before it’s ok for Dexter to kill him.
Maybe because this episode was an all time ratings winner for a Showtime series.
I think the last episode was great…Dexter is getting almost cornered, with things flying all around him at this point. Will be fun to see how he squeaks out of these little annoying events.
Whaaat? Who said that? Harry started “drumming it in” when he found out that Dexter had killed the neighbor’s dog and then fessed up that he’d killed a few other smaller animals. That is classic “serial killer” adolescence. He had to pretend to enjoy every event through his childhood, for pete’s sake.
One thing, I’m not sure if “emotionless” is quite right. It’s seems he could always feel anger and anxiety. It’s not far fetched for him to have become attached to his current little life set up and display those emotions when protecting it.
Another thing is that many mental imbalances can change as someone ages. He could be “softening” a bit, I suppose. Some psychiatrists might say actively reflecting on the legacy of his father and “confronting” the murderer of his mom was a “break through”, so to speak.
Not every serial killer killed animals as an adolescent and not every adolescent who killed animals grows up to be a serial killer. Dexter may very well be a true sociopath. Or he could be someone who was traumatized as a child and, had he gotten the appropriate treatment during his formative years instead of stalking lessons, might not feel the need to slice people up with power tools. We don’t know and we’ll never know because instead of trying to get Dexter some actual help Harry jumped to the immediate conclusion that Dexter was irreparable.
