Dexter: Resurrection

“Dexter: Resurrection” will premiere its first two episodes Friday, July 11 on Paramount+ Premium.

For those watching on cable, “Dexter: Resurrection” will air on Showtime on Sunday, July 13, 8 PM ET/PT.

The official logline of “Dexter Resurrection” reads, “Weeks after Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace.”

“Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easily. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast.”

Trailer:

Interview with Michael Hall. Apparently more than one season is planned.

The first two episodes weren’t bad. Better than the prequel series.

I enjoyed the prequel, particularly some of the casting choices.

Just finished episode 4. I think it is really well wriien so far.

I liked ‘Dexter: The Wonder Years’ too, and I agree some of the casting choices were spot-on, young Dexter excepted. But having Michael C. Hall in the Daniel Stern role saved it.

I’m 3 episodes into D:R, and enjoying it so far. Looking forward to the ‘Serial Killers’ Gala’ episode(s?) with all the guest star roles coming up, that’s been relentlessly previewed on the streaming channels. Looks like they’re really leaning into the dark humor aspect of the show.

5 episodes in and it is still the best season in a long time. Plus, talk about your viral marketing:

Well virtually no one (including myself) has felt like discussing the series. So far I have liked it.

But the last episode is going to air starting tomorrow so I thought I would ask if anyone has any predictions of what’s going to happen in this episode? Prater dead? The New York Ripper revealed? Or even Gigi: does she have some ulterior motives–investigating Harrison or Dexter? Is Charley going to reject Prater’s evil and demonstrate she is a good person?

I think it is possibly the best season of Dexter ever, but nobody here is talking about it so I mostly haven’t bothered (but read a lot of Reddit threads about it).

I can’t speculate on the final episode because I’ve already seen it. After watching episode 9 last week I headed over to Reddit and saw warnings to be careful about avoiding spoilers for the leaked episodes. Hours before episode 9 aired, both 9 and 10 leaked online from an Eastern European dub (some insist they are in Russian, others equally insist that they are in Ukrainian, but whatever language it was in the typical phoned-in voiceover without any attempt to lip sync or emote that is typical of the general area). Being very spoiler-averse I tracked down episode 10 on a Cyrillic-language streaming site and watched it immediately after episode 9 (following it reasonably well without understanding the language) then found and read a rough machine-translated transcript. Taken together I almost entirely understand the episode, but do look forward to seeing it in English.

I wouldn’t say it’s better than the first few seasons of original Dexter (everything up to Rita’s murder, I’d say), but this season is very, very good, and kind of its own thing-- sort of meta; a knowing, affectionate subtle parody of itself.
