Dexter - Season 2 Premier

SEASON 2: EPISODE ONE - “It’s Alive!”

After killing his brother, the Ice Truck Killer, at the end of last season, Dexter now finds himself unable to kill again. He certainly wants to, and in fact needs to, but he is unnerved by feelings he can’t understand. After nearly being killed by the Ice Truck Killer, Debra returns to work at Miami Metro PD, but shows signs that she may not be ready to resume duty just yet.

Anyone else watching? Can’t believe there’s no thread.

I’ve only seen parts of Season One, so here’s a question for those of you in the know, was the discovery made in the underwater scene the result of Dexters handiwork or is it unrelated to him?

Yes, those were his work.

So is this thread an open-spoiler venture? I’ll use spoiler boxes anyway just to be safe:
I was kind of surprised that they killed off Paul so quickly; I thought for sure he was going to be an ongoing source of annoyance for Dex this season. On the other hand, I’m glad he’s out of the picture (though he’s planted the seeds of doubt in Rita).

Very unlike Dexter to get so sloppy with his victim! I bet that one comes back to haunt him.
Coulda used a bit more from Angel and Masuka, but overall I thought it was a pretty solid debut.

Why on earth would he bag the evidence? Without the bags, the evidence would have been disposed of by now by natural predators.

I’m not quite sure how I feel about this episode yet. I’m really not all that interested in Dexter’s existential crisis. The whole “hunting for the killer in our midst” thing has been done before so I’m truly hoping they bring something new to the story.

Why is La Guerta suddenly so concerned about Deb’s state of mind? If it were presented purely as “if she’s on the street I could be killed” I would buy it but the actress is playing it like La Guerta sudenly cares about Deb.

A) Because it’s part of his ritual and B) to avoid blood evidence.

And C) to prevent body pieces from washing up on shore.

I’m amazed, though, that Dex would be so careless to dump every body in the same place. The ocean is big.

He likes to go back to the spot. There was a scene with him drinking/thinking on his boat and the depth finder showed that spot.

Unfortunately, I just got Showtime on a free preview weekend so I guess I’ll have to wait until the season is over and it comes out on iTunes to find out what happens.

i’m with ya, 5que, i’m hoping to find a dexter buddy. i’ll bring munchies and beverages…

fantastic opener. poor guy’s world is just falling apart. i’m really curious on how he will pick up the pieces.

bookdexter didn’t have all his bodies in one basket… makes better visual for tvdexter. can’t show a bunch of bodies hanging around the everglades, hand and jaw with the 'gators.

as far as bagging his kill, dad taught him that. always keep extra strong hefties on hand! you could see that critters had gotten to some of the kills as there was scattered bones about.

something i just thought of… dexter doesn’t seem to use the profane language of some of his work buds and sister. perhaps he couldn’t get the hang of it?

I’ve only read the first two books but I think the screenwriter has got it all over the book’s author. The series is just so much better that I might not read the third book.

I thought the series started with a real bang. They have certainly stscked the deck against Dexter this time.

A friend of mine is the location manager on the show and he says it’s goingto be an absolutely fantastic season, gonna blow our minds.

I do think the returning to put all the bodies in one spot was pretty stupid for Dex, plus putting htem in plastic bags. He’d have been smarter to use something that would break down over time or attract predators. Or hell, just go farther out to sea, where no divers are likely to go!

But then there’s no story.

It was creepy, seeing all those bags…

Sure, but don’t forget Dexter is a very methodical, habitual, ritualistic person. I don’t think ‘scattering’ would work for him, be it bodies or laundry, he’s just too orginazed for his own good. Don’t forget, all someone has to do is find that box with the blood samples/slides and that would link him to every corpse they just found. He’d be smart to not keep that, though I imagine he get’s rid of it next week.

Nope, his is not going to get rid of the blood drop slides. Those are his proof of work. I think in the final season (please season 9 or higher), when he is caught, it will be due to those slides.

I thought they said last season that he dumped his bodies in an especially deep area, hence the depth finder. And they did show them going down a sort of underwater cliff in this episode. I think either these bodies just landed to the side, instead of into, the chasm – or could they be the brother’s bodies?

His brother usually displayed his bodies in public, so no need for a public dumping ground unless he started out that way and then started with the public announcement. I think they are Dexter’s bodies.

I have to say, I 'm excited about this new season. I’ve only read the first book, which I loved except for the ending. I thought the season finale had a better ending than the book, it was hard for me to follow what happened and who killed who in the book.

I missed last week, watched about half of tonight’s episode. As much as I love Michael Hall and Keith Carradine, it’s gonna be hard to keep watching.

Dexter’s sister is just awful. Even in Miami, doesn’t someone that skinny and jittery and obnoxious suggest some level of crackwhoredom? I understand she’s recovering from a horrendous trauma, but she was like that before her boyfriend turned out to be a serial killer. And if you’re too scared to live on your own, then be a better houseguest, bitch.

I also don’t like Doakes or the lady sergeant (lieutenant? major?) – loved her on Oz, but not here. I don’t like Rita either.

I understand that these guys are probably true to Lindsay’s vision, but man, they’re hard to take. Dammit. Because I love Dexter.

Dexter 2: How Dexter Got His Groove Back (Electric Bugaloo)

This needs to kick it into a serious gear to keep me engaged. Entire swaths of storyline are snooze-inducing. Could not care less about the inter-lieutenant drama. Could not care much less about Deb’s baby steps back from the brink. Rudy’s fantasy sequence appearances made me groan, except for the cheap pop from his lunging out of the water. These first two eps are I fear the sign of a wicked sophomore slump.

I liked the second episode- but had more setup action than story. How could things not get exciting with…

“Bay Harbor Butcher” findings and FBI camped out across the office from Dexter looking for HIM.

Deb pulling the gun on the small child was a bit nuts, I liked how Angel covered for her but told Dexter.

Dexter and AA meetings!!! Good for loads of laughs.

Also laughed at “I will not kill my sister, I will not kill my sister.” Especially since I probably would have been ready to kill her …

Well, I canned HBO and picked up Showtime on Friday just so I could watch Dexter rather than waiting for it to show up in iTunes after the season. Showtime seems to have better movies than HBO too.

Doakes is a major character in the books since he’s the only one that has a sense that something is up with Dexter, so is a good foil. Unfortunately, the second novel’s story with Rita’s kids is much more interesting – they’re starting to become little Dexters. I’d really like to see how that plays out!

Has anyone read the third book yet? Dexter’s body pile is not part of book 2 so I was wondering if they are drawing that idea from from the last book. Or was it just brilliance on the screenwriter’s part?

I was sorry to see Paul return this season but I guess we needed something to make Rita less of a cardboard cutout to move around on the board. Her crusade to ‘cure’ Dexter of his demons could be some fun but it could also just get in the way.

Hooray for Season 2!
