Dexter Season 4 open spoilers for aired episodes [changed title]

I don’t agree with that assessment. I don’t think he puts Rita on a pedestal or tries to act nicer than everyone else there is. He simply doesn’t know how to act so he chooses the safe option. If Rita seems to feel that it is natural for him to behave in a certain manner, for all he knows, she’s correct and that’s how regular people act.

Interesting. Again, I’m not sure if it’s likely but it is interesting. I don’t know where they’re going with Christie’s hard time blues and that’s a lot more juicy than anything mah brain meats conjured.

Absolutely, but this is functionally equivalent to a Nice Guy who never thinks the girl is wrong because he put her on a pedestal. Even worse is that Dexter does this with everybody, not just Rita.

Question for the fans: Is it me, or has Dexter’s voice-over narration become a LOT more intrusive this season?

From this episode, I’m think in particular of the scenes where Deb is explaining her Trinity theory to La Guerta, where Dexter is telling us each of his moves while stalking a suicidal Trinity, and the ending scene at the checkpoint. IMO it really killed the mood to have Dexter lead us by the nose thru each scene. Really, didn’t the actions as presented speak for themselves? At most, a short thought-epilogue from Dexter after each of these scenes would have been more than enough.

Yes, the narration is getting dumber, as if they think their audience is getting dumber and needs to have every little detail explained to them. Are they trying to set it up for syndication and now it’s being used for exposition, or did they have focus groups say “UH I DON’T GET IT WHAT’S GOING ON?”. I don’t know.

I’m more worried about the ethereal conversations with a glowing dad.

I distinctly remember being dubious about the jarring voice-overs when I first started watching. I came to the series late and watched the first two seasons on DVD within a couple weeks, though, so clearly the good outweighed the narration cheese. But I definitely thought they were intrusive, stilted, and blatantly expositional way back in season one.

Yeah, those are a little annoying and most of my annoyance stems from the lighting effects. I think they are an improvement over flashbacks though.

If I had to select one, I’d go with Dex’s head narration over flashbacks or Harry_vision. It’s nice to have a variety though.

I was thinking Christie too! It will make her interview with Deb extra twisted. Also, her motive could be two-fold: trying to make news to report about and also jealousy over Quinn.

Hey! Maybe it was the IA chick from last season who wanted Deb to keep an eye on Quinn.

I, too, thought that the DNA roadblocks completely stretched reality. They have a hard time getting judges to order cheek swabs of specific suspects without probable cause! There’s no way a judge would have allowed a sweep like that, especially based on a general profile. And no one in their right mind would ever put a roadblock on I-95. Traffic would be blocked up to Lauderdale!

Speaking of stretching the truth, there is no red-blooded, heterosexual male in the world who would have turned away a hot, needy woman at his door. If that isn’t proof that something’s up with Quinn, I don’t know what is.

The scene where Trinity broke into his childhood home was hysterical, with Dexter bowing to the Chinese couple. I thought Trinity’s explanation seemed a bit odd. A bathtub is different than an enclosed shower…and Trinity had a habit of taking out a mirror and telling the victim that she was beautiful, as if he was re-enacting a scene from his past. And what shower is built with glass? In any event, had we known this back-story when Trinity was looking in on his wife bathing, it would have been creepier.

I was screaming at Dexter for saving Trinity. Idiot!

SPOILERS BASED ON PREVIEWS:

Whoever thought Trinity’s son was afraid of him apparently was dead on.

Korean couple.

So sorry. :Bows to BMada:

You and me both. At first I figured he was a slave to ritual, but then I was pleasantly surprised to see him decide to drop/kill Trinity right there and then. I found that refreshing in a major way, precisely because it showed how much Dexter isn’t a slave to his ritual.

I think it’s great. And often funny. Some of the best moments are because of something the voiceover says.

I’ve seen plenty of bathtubs with doors like that. They aren’t made of glass now, but back when Trinity was a child? I could see it.

Shower doors are still made of glass. It’s tempered safety glass, so it shouldn’t make dangerous shards, but it’s glass.

Woah tonight was crazy. I can’t wait to see what happens.

No kidding- great episode, nice twist at the end, did not see that coming!

I didn’t either!

I’m not sure I like this big a twist. It’s a bit tricksie. I’d feel better about it if there had been some hints. Were there any hints?

Can someone tell me what Harry said to Dex in the previews, about Trinity’s pattern not fitting with a living daughter? There was a crash in the kitchen (cat on the stove) and I missed it. Please spoiler it – I know there are Dopers in the thread who don’t watch the previews.

How sad, watching mom willing to whore her daughter to keep peace in the family!!!

Harry: If each of Trinity’s victims represents a member of his family…
Dex:It’s not three victims…it’s four

Trinity must consider whatsherface as dead to him for this to make any sense though. It’s a neat twist, but it seems kinda last minuteish, like they needed a bit more drama or for some reason they had to change something at the last second. But I suppose we’ll find out more next week.

Thanks, Joey P.

I thought it was a good episode. Finally, I felt some real chemistry between Maria and Angel, although I hope that “hit by a bus” comment wasn’t foreshadowing something bad for one of them.

Will Matsuko (sp?) tell anyone what he saw? Seems likely, else why let him see? Too bad about those chocolate thingies though.
