As many of you already know, our very own Dewey Cheatem Undhow has returned from many years in the Wilderness (i.e., New York City). Now that he has arrived in the Promised Land (i.e., Texas), it’s time to celebrate his repatriation and help him to recover from the trauma of five years without cowboy boots, pickup trucks, chili rellenos, and Shiner Bock. That means you’re all invited over to my place for some grillin’, some beer and soda swillin’, and plenty of smack-talkin’ about OU football. Date: Saturday, October 2.
Time: Eh, call it sometime that afternoon. Really, we can work that out later.
Place: Mine (NE Dallas, directions to be provided, ample free parking).
Who: DFW Dopers. Children, entourages, and hangers-on also welcome.
Come one, come all, just give me a head count before I head for Central Market.
Well, crap! I’m going to be returning from a vacation and will be in DFW that weekend, but I’m supposed to attend a friend’s parent’s luau on the 2nd. Sorry I have to miss my chance to finally meet minty and Dewey in the flesh.
One good thing about a cross-country move: you do pretty well on the free drinks.
BTW, not only is my new office a few blocks away from minty’s, the house I just signed a contract on is a stone’s throw from minty’s abode as well. And the earth moves ever closer to armageddon…
The Mtgclan will be coming. Have you posted an announcement on the yahoo mailing list for DFW dopers? I know some of our regulars are spending more time in LiveJournal land than on the SDMB these days, but most are still part of that list.
Thought I’d kick this up to the front page in case anybody missed it first time around. Weather forecast for next Satuday looks good, albeit with a slight chance of rain. That being the case, I’m still planning on firing up the grill. So let’s set this little Octoberfest to start around lunchtime.

Well, I live to far away (Hill Country) to make the drive, which is really a shame, ‘cuz I’d like to meet ol’ Dewey, and even you, minty. 'twould be interesting, considering as how Dewey and I tend to gravitate towards the same side of the political fence, opposite minty…we could have some great 2nd ammendment discussions…
oh, well…welcome (back) to the state, Dewey! (just as I’m getting ready to move to Kansas City - go figure)
There is no way in the world I can attend, but I want to be of record as wishing Dewey all good fortune and joy and professional success in the Lone Star State.

Perhaps we could get an Austin Doper get together going. I do miss the Dallas area gatherings, they were always a great time, if you don’t mind being sore from laughing. Still haven’t had, or heard of one, in Austin.
It’s a funny world. Weeks of open weekends all over the place and you guys schedule this get-together on the same day I’m getting together with folks from another message board! :smack:
Well, depending on what time these shindigs end up being maybe I can make both? So far all I’ve got for time is “afternoon” … for both y’all!
All right then, let’s semi-arbitrarily set this thing to kick off at noon. I’m working up a Texas-appropriate lunch menu, so let me know if anyone’s opposed to the kinds of things that are ordinarily barbecued around here.
