DFW Dopers: Hawkwood?

Your wish is my command.
Y’all want to get together at Hawkwood? We could make it the first weekend of October and make those trying to do all the October dopefests sweat.

What y’all think?

Hey, Zy, you know I’ll be there. First week of October works for me.

Jim

I’ll probably still be recovering from my surgery[sub]gratuitus ploy for sympathy[/sub], but Mayby I will be up and about by then…Mrs. Bdgr really wants to see Hawkwood, and was kind of depressed that she wasnt going to get to go yet another year. If not, ya’ll have fun

Have they put a huge dome over it and air-conditioned it this year? No? Well, have they at least installed the moving sidewalks so I won’t have to walk thirty miles? No?

I think we all know where THIS is going.

So one of you have a beer for me (I’m sure JimB will make the sacrifice) and maybe we can have a Halloween party at my place.

[hijack]September 21st is my tenth wedding anniversary! So all you people who want to send congratulatory cards email me and I’ll send you the address.[/hijack]

Hawkwood? Home of Angus the kissing bandit? I’m sure Hootee and I will be there.

On an another note, the State Fair is also coming up. Should I start lining up some teacher passes? I can’t pass up the chance to see Aglarond eat a corny dog and end up with mustard on his forehead. [sub]Still don’t know how he managed that.[/sub]

Happy Anniversary Cheffie and Andrea. I assume bdgr is recovering from surgery right how so I’ll hold off on hugging him.

I’d love to do this- I go to RenFest every year. I’ve never been to Hawkwood, though- how’s it compare? Is there camping? Is there carousing? Is there camping AND carousing?

Sounds like a blast…but TSR is going on then too, and it’s not that much farther away! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll still make an appearance. Anyone want to carpool? I’m in the SMU area

I’ll check with the better half and see if we can go! We’d planned on heading out to Hawkwood anyway. (We always do TRF and Scarborough in garb, and generally hit Hawkwood dressed as-is.) BTW, who all is planning on going to TRF?

Incidentally, did you all hear that the Hawkwood folks were selling out to Scarborough? This’ll probably be the last year it’s a ‘fantasy faire’ – rumor hath it that it will be kind of a mini-Scarborough next year. I’m just glad it’s not getting paved over.

Okay, so I have only lived in DFW for 7 years, so forgive me for asking… but what the hell is Hawkwood? And where is it for that matter.

Adam, Hawkwood is a small Fantasy/Renaissance Faire near the Texas Motor Speedway. Lots of people in costumes, live music, comedy skits, games (archery and such), assorted Faire food, and BOOZE (ahem). I wonder if they’re still doing Dueling Death Scenes?

I almost certainly can’t make the first Saturday in October–maybe that Sunday. Otherwise, it would have to be the next weekend. I’m going to be at King Arthur Faire in Nowhere, OK on Saturday. If we go that Sunday, I won’t be wearing my all-black garb–I have to wear it while trying to infiltrate a temple and steal some stuff Saturday, and won’t have time to wash.

No fair! I went the first two years to Hawkwood and loved it. Anyone else meet Dot the Alethirsty Pirate?

Sure, they have renfaires out here, but no one does the cinnamon almonds, and that’s half the reason to go, darn it.

First year I was there, I heard that the Scarborough owner had specifically forbidden any players there from working Hawkwood - wouldn’t hire them the next year if they did. I liked that Hawkwood is fantasy as opposed to complete Ren. I really hope that doesn’t change, and that the ownership doesn’t go to Scarborough.

Have an almond and think of me.

Grace, you can get me a ticket if we can go on the 2nd or 4th weekend of October. I’ll be in LA on the 3rd weekend.

But feel free to go ahead without me.

Jim

Phouka, they had cinnamon almonds at TRF last year…you could always make a hike to Houston, y’know. Or speak nicely, and I’ll send you some if/when we make it this year.

Not sure what the plans are for the Hawkwood site, but keep in mind all I’ve heard is second and third hand info, so don’t worry much. It may actually be good news in terms of grounds upkeep and the like. We noticed last year that some of the areas were getting into some disrepair. The first couple of years were wonderful, though, and the location’s all over Scarborough’s. Wouldn’t you have loved to play Robin Hood in those trees when you were a kid?

Also, the firm I work for is offering discount tickets to the State Fair. Don’t know how many passes you’re able to get, Grace, but if you can’t get enough and anyone wants to settle for the discount instead ($8.50 adult, $6.00 children (48" of height and under)) let me know; I’ll be glad to help.

Lionors, last year I was able to get enough tickets (and then some) for all the DFW dopers that went to the State Fair. They usually give one free pass per person but I start collecting them from people who aren’t planning on using them. Hopefully I can do that again this year. If not, I’m sure we’ll take you up on your offer of the discounted tickets.

Balance, would another weekend work better for you? Anyone else have weekends they have problems with?

Should we move this a bit earlier?

The last weekend of September is probably out for me… Well, Sunday afternoon is maybe available…

Jim

As I said, I should be able to make Sunday of the first weekend of October. Otherwise it would have to be the second weekend, which may conflict with the State Fair (which I’m not interested in visiting–no wine-in-a-box for me, thanks  ).

Yep, Sunday’s are better for my by and large, though my schedule is so convoluted that even I can’t figure it out myself right now <sigh>. I’ll lurk around here and try to show up if at all possible.

And where’s Palmyra? Didn’t (he/she) start all this off in teh first place?

–==the sax man==–

So, Sunday October 7th it is.
Palmyra?

I can go, but I may back out if Palmyra’s not coming!
