Who is hosting the Channuka party?
It sounds to me like you just volunteered, adam.
Are we skipping Halloween? Does anyone have Samhain plans?
Adam - Would it make you happier if I called it the winter holidays party?
I’ve been thinking about having a Halloween party at my place, with finger foods. Costumes? Pumpkin carving contest? Hmmm…
Now, now, Zy–surely we Dopers can stand two parties within a week or so…but adam will have to take charge. I wouldn’t know a dreidle from a latke.
<Balance, who is carefully avoiding comment on religious nomenclature to avoid “volunteering” to host a Yule party.>
I’ve been debating having a Halloween party at my place–I’m not sure it’s big enough (as we all know, it only takes two Dopers to fill a room), but otherwise it’s well-suited. Let’s see how many people are interested, and then we’ll decide. Maybe we can get psiekier to bring Army of Darkness…
My place is big enough. I just don’t know if I can get it in shape by then.
Lately, I’ve been partial to “Consumer Spending Season”.
didn’t we get into a long discussion of terminology when we were planning the Festivus party LAST year?
 A whole weekend-long party?
She is a brave soul. I thought we got plenty rowdy in just the few hours in the evening type parties we’ve had so far.
Well. I’m game!
Second weekend in December should be just fine for me.
Works for me as well.
Count me in for the party.
Zyada, if you need help getting ready for Halloween just let me know. I’d be happy to come over and help clean or whatever.
In case y’all are wondering, I’ll be there. And at Zy’s for a Halloween party. And at Adam or Balance’s for a whatever party.
I don’t want to give the impression I’m easy or anything.
Now, since I have your attention, I also want to get a regular type gathering started. I’ve talked with Zyada and Grace about it and they seem to like the idea. Instead of the planning for a gathering, like which day is best, where are we going, …, this would be more like 1st & 3rd Friday of every month at 7pm some of us will be at Dave & Busters, just show up. That may be too often, but I was just throwing that out.
We can use the DFW Message Board to coordinate things if we want to move around or something. Please everyone in the area join that board just to keep informed about local stuff.
Jim
Ooo! I read Party. Count me in, of course, Zy. Unless something else strange happens that weekend. [sub]**not that I’m expecting to lose any more teeth or anything…[/sub]
Great idea, Jim. Man, I sure wish I lived closer to y’all…
oo.
just saw this.
Can’t make any party until then, but yes, I have volunteered the [sub]what was it again…winter?..[/sub]er, party thing at chez moi.
I am proposing a white elephant gift exchange.
Good News Baboon and I will provide the main dish (not sure what yet)
and we can do potluck on the rest…?
We live in Fort Worth about 5 minutes away from Downtown.
We have two dogs (kid friendly) and a cat… in case you have allergies, please let me know.
could everyone interested drop me a line at wendy@dyba.org and when we are closer to the event, i will e-mail out maps and such.
now then, what about other dopers who have never partaken?
who else is out there in DFW that needs a warm fuzzy Christmas, dope style?
eh, you guys get to be too much and we’ll pull out the vacuum out and such…
“hey there Cheffie… you look bored…why don’t you clean this silver?”
“Zy-baby, be a doll and clean the sink, will ya?”
“Gracey! Would you mind dusting the bookshelf?”
“Miny! Babe! The rugs need beating out back”
“Mandy-cakes! how about you do the laundry?”
“Jimmy Bob! the lawn looks like it needs a-mowing”
…this tends to end a party quickly, I have found.
Dibs on the bookcase!
(Now I’ll have to talk to my boss about those vacation days I have to use up.)
You don’t know your DFW Doper buddies yet:
Grace was just over last night, sweeping my floors while I mopped.
Lord Jim AND Chef Troy have both come over and mowed my yard which is of a size to play football within.
I, myself call dibs on the polishing - anything using chemicals is my bag, and I love to polish things.
Now that you’ve claimed The Consumer Spending Season Party, Chef Troy has Burger House Night Wednesdays, and Lord Jim is doing Dave and Buster’s Friday nights bordering the months, however…
I want to host a Junkfest, at my house Sunday, November 10th. Your hostess shall provide either a fire and oven-roasted meats, or a barbeque, depending on weather, with everyone welcome to bring whatever add-on dishes they want to have bragging rights about, at least until the next 'fest.
The date is set, because whatever junk brought along that doesn’t get swapped will be lumped with the bed mattresses and other bulky things I need to throw out for the following Monday’s Bulk Solid Waste pickup. I have no doubt that everyone has enough White Elephants to still do the exchange you suggested, but if not, feel free to show up I]merely* to party. Although one can hardly say that about the DFW Dopers with a straight face, or even in straight type face.
This is really just an excuse for me to get to play with fire and roasting of meat, especially as now it is cool enough to be outdoors.
Zyada, can you put it up on the Arborwood Forum’s Message Board, please?
rjk and I would be squabbling over the bookshelf. I’m not a fan of dusting, but I’m a fiend when it comes to organizing things. I’d be re-arranging your books by type(paperback, hardcover, classic, contemporary, etc) and finding better ways to store them. When I was done you’d probably have them grouped by author, sorted by category, then size, or perhaps alpha by author, maybe even by frequency of use, and re-arranged so the heaviest books are on the bottom shelf so they don’t put too much stress on the structure of the bookcase. You’d probably also end up with a full shelf, or close to it, worth of space you never knew you had.
Dontcha love southern hospitality?
Enjoy,
Steven
Since Ziactrice is having a party Nov. 10th, I’m going to bow out of a Halloween party. Grace, I’d love to take you up on your offer, but I think that I’m still not well enough to handle a party.
And I’ll help with Bab’s raking.
