Sorry to hear that you can’t come, hope you enjoy your brother’s b-day though. We may still be able to have another get-together fairly soon. After all, the Hawkwood thing was this weekend and the fair is next, surely we can play another get-together. Maybe even before the end of the year.
Well that means I have four days to come up with more tickets. Never fear though. I already know two people who never go to the fair. I’ll just sneak into their offices and snag the extra tickets. They won’t miss them. I am also familiar with every cheat and sneak in all of PISD so I’m sure we can get ticket somewhere. Heck, I might even be able to score a couple of passes for the kiddos.
Really that isn’t necessary, I wouldn’t refuse the passes, but don’t feel obligated or go to any great lengths on my account. We still plan on going in the morning so we can let the kiddos have some fun before we meet up with the adults. Unless we arrange to meet sometime prior to the 14th, or you send the passes via mail or something, getting passes for us would mean you would have to come early as well, and that is more inconvenience than I am willing to allow you to put yourself through on our behalf(hmm, sounded a bit like an ungrateful jerk on that last bit, didn’t mean to, I swear. I just don’t want to be a burden on anyone). If you can get passes without much difficulty they would be appreciated, but if not, we’ll still be looking forward to seeing you that afternoon.
Mtgman, email me. I live in Frisco, but I’ll be happy to meet you somewhere to drop off the tickets. There may be time for mailing the tickets if we hurry. I can easily get the free tickets so please let me get two more for you. That’ll cut down on admission price and free up cash for better stuff like kiddie rides, corny dogs, and funnel cakes.
If we scheduled this for earlier in the day I could still make it; I just have to leave Dallas by about 4PM. Does anyone know if DART goes to the fair?
We’ll probably be there when it opens, maybe a litle before. The midway is going to open at 11 Sunday, so we really couldn’t move it up too terribly far, they won’t be open. My family may go a little early to get a good parking spot(or we may take a park ‘n’ ride, kids would probably love it) and just wander around the grounds a litle by the lagoon and such before the midway opens, we never get tired of the fairgrounds(note, this is not the same as never getting tired AT the fairgrounds).
I was under the impression that we’d all be meeting up around 1 or so, except maybe Grace whom I’ve heard is chronicaly late (thanks again Grace) That would still give you two good hours to hang out and then another hour to get back to your car and get outta dodge.
We’ll be available by cell phone that day for on-the-fly plans if nothing definite is determined here.
Hell, we could have valet parking for the same price, and 13-15 dollars is a lot of corney dogs, and we wouldn’t have to wait on a bus. We could also leave straight from the fair for dinner or whatever we want to plan afterwards. Man, DART is really not the deal it used to be
Do we want to meet at The Ditch again? Everyone knows where it’s at and we could carpool together to the fair. If we meet at Noon, we won’t get to the fair until around 12:30 and that’ll give Mtgman and his family an hour and a half to do some things without the dopers underfoot. Mtgman, is that enough time?
Dopers, is that enough time for all of us to check out the State Fair and still let Zyada leave at 4:00 p.m.
We don’t have to eat at the Ditch (El Arroyo) afterwards. We can, but we don’t have to. I just suggested the Ditch because I think most of us have been there and can find it pretty easily.
No worries here, the kids will have a fit no matter what time we choose to leave, no kid ever likes leaving fun places like the fair. An hour and a half should be plenty of time, especially since they’re all to little to ride most of the rides. And I’m sure we won’t stop doing kid-friendly things just because other people are in the group, other people have kids too right? [sub]Surely we’re not the only ones![/sub] Didn’t I hear that Chef Jr is going to be there? Any others?
Anyway, the point of the fair is we all regress into childhood again, so I doubt that either Dopers or kids will be “underfoot” because we’ll all be doing the same goofy things

I don’t know the Ditch, but we’re flexible. The kids behave pretty well in resteraunts like Cheddar’s and Olive Garden, and I figured that is the type of place we’d be going for dinner. The casual dining type of place. Is this correct?
El Arroyo, the Ditch to the dopers, is very casual. It’s a casual mexican restaurant. Good food and not too pricey. It’s practically the official restaurant of the DFW Dopers since we’ve met there three or four times.
No need to worry about the kids because we’re usually louder than everyone in the restaurant combined. That is, at least until the food arrives.
Chef Jr. should be in attendance, but Cheffie hasn’t been in here to confirm that they’re coming. I’ll email him to verify. I could call him if he ever turned on his mobile phone.
BTW, it was very nice meeting you and your family last night. I’m sorry I was so late getting there.
