We discussed in the Hawkwood thread about a trip to the State Fair as well, but no real plans were made. So let’s make them here.
I noticed in the other thread that the beauteous (try spelling that three times fast!) Grace and Palmyra are both unavailable on Saturdays, so I definitely vote for a Sunday. So we could go the 14th, 21st or 28th. All work for me, but I think JimB is going down to Houston one of those weekends. And Chef Troy is threatening to have a karaoke party the 28th. Would we want to do both on the same day, or different days?
I’m sure we’ll want to come. Sundays are better than Saturdays for us, because Mrs. Chef works a 12-hour day almost every Saturday. Of course, Sundays aren’t great either, because she works until 2 and doesn’t get home until nearly 3.
Alternatively, we could just laugh maniacally and go without her. Everyone shouldn’t have to arrange their schedule around us.
Well, my wife assures me we have free tickets due to being members of the Science Place(I love that place!) and I know we get free parking as well due to our membership. So I guess just money for attractions/rides for the kids is all we’d need, but money is really tight right now. We just moved into a new house and while it is slightly cheaper than the old place(and about twice the size, in almost as nice a neighborhood) we had to pay out the nose to break our old lease to grab this house before someone else did.
Still, the kids would love it, and I know my wife would as well, so I guess we can scrape up the cash. The weekends 14th, 28th work for me, but we’re out of town, visiting friends in West Texas, on the weekend of the 6th and I’m out of state on business on the weekend of the 21st. As long as it’s not one of those weekends we should be able to make it. It would be nice to meet some of you without the threat of karaoke hanging over me
That would be fine with us, we would probably get there in the morning so we could take the kids around to some rides and shows and things, and we could either have an arranged meeting place or give out cell phone numbers for an on-the-fly discussion of a meeting place when the group arrives.
[pout]Again? Shoot![/pout] Well I guess we’re just going to have eat corny dogs and put mustard on our foreheads in your honor. It’ll almost seem like you’re there.
I was talking to Mom this morning and she pointed out that we are celebrating my brother’s birthday the 14th. So I won’t be going to the Fair with y’all.
This means I won’t be meeting Mtgman anytime soon.
[sub]Is there an echo in here?[/sub]
Actually, we had a bit of a nasty shock late last week, I’ll have to do an intro to have it make sense.
Firstly, I would like to say, before anyone and everyone, that the Science Place rocks. I’ve loved it for over 20 years and my wife and children love it as well. So when we got the chance to become members this year, first year we lived in Dallas after the family came, previous years were spent in college in East Texas, we jumped on it. We’ve never looked back, in fact we apparently didn’t look forward either. We knew that our membership got us unlimited admission to the Science Place, free parking, some vouchers for IMAX films and discounts on guest passes to the Science Place and discounts on IMAX films after our vouchers were used. There were tons of other benefits too, like a joint-membership program with hundreds of other museums all over the country so we were essentially members of all these museums too, handy when travelling. Not to mention the discounts at the snack bar and gift shop in the Science Place. So we kind of glazed over after the first few benefits were mentioned and just smiled and nodded politely as the lady kept talking. I mean, we were already sold, why keep on?
So, a couple weeks ago my lovely wife tells me that we have free Fair tickets coming. I say “huh?” and she tells me that another friend, whom we had convinced to get a Science Place membership as well, had gotten hers in the mail. I said “I don’t remember Fair tickets being part of the package.” She said “Well, Louanne just got hers, and she said it was because of the Science Place membership. So I guess you’re remembering wrong. I wonder when ours will come.”
I think you see where this is going. About a week of eagerly checking the mailbox yielded no tickets and increasing suspicion on my part and frustration on hers. Finally, I looked up the membership info on the Science Place webpage. Just as I suspected, no free tickets to the Fair. Worse, we see a caevat on the free parking clause in the membership. Not valid during the Fair. So now what we figured would be a fun outing for minimal cost is up to full price for everything. Shoot. Worse yet, I’ve already announced that we have tickets and my wife feels about three inches tall because of the misunderstanding. What to do?
Oh well, the economy needs the stimulation and we could use the break ourselves, so we’re still on. Barring some major calamity we’ll see you all on the 14th. From a practical standpoint all I needed to say was “See you there” I guess, sorry about that.
