DFW Dopers: The Matrix (Inwood Theatre, 5/10)

MoxMaiden, MTGMan, Aglarond, and I are going to the midnight showing the Matrix tomorrow night to prepare ourselves for the sequel which is being released next week. Would anyone else like to join us for drinks at The Lounge before the movie? Obviously, you’re welcome to attend the movie as well.

So far we’re 2 for 2 in winning one of the door prizes they give out. Mtgman won a free DVD at the showing of Dr. Strangelove and I won a free trip to the concession stand. I wonder what the chances are of a DFW doper winning again?

Whoa!

Alas, I’m still only getting about 4 hours of sleep a night, so I’ll have to pass on this one as well.

Got a call last night from some of our best friends from years back. Haven’t seen them in six months or so because they live in West Texas. They’re coming into town impromptu, this weekend. We’ve told them they can have the guest bedroom at our place and arriving ~ midnight tonight(they have to attend graduation at the college she teaches at before they can leave, graduation starts @ seven IIRC, so they probably won’t leave the area till after 9, they’re two hours away at best). Not sure what this portends for a Saturday midnight movie, we may just see if anyone wants to volunteer to watch the kids(our four and their two) and you’ll get to meet some new people  I know my friend expressed interest in “The Matrix” on a big screen when we were talking about it last night.

At this point our plans are completely fluid. We’ve got a TON of catching up to do with our friends.(they’ve had a REALLY rough year. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, his fledgling law practice has had some struggles(mostly due to the extremely small town they live in just not having enough business to offer), he’s just joined a firm in Abilene(about a 30~40 minute commute), and there is uncertainty at the college she teaches at and they rely on her job for their medical insurance coverage(kind of important when you’ve just been diagnosed with MS). They live very close to her family, but his live in the Metroplex as do most of their friends so they get a bit lonesome as well) We could easily spend all our free time this weekend catching up. Still I promised them next time they came to town that dinner and a movie was on me(as well as room and board if they needed it), so they may try to take me up on it  They certainly deserve a break and on top of it all their anniversary is the 12th, so some celebration is certainly in order. We’ve just got two more kiddos to find a sitter for and our regulars(my sister and/or mom and his parents) are both, coincidentally, out of town for the weekend.

We’re not definitely out, but we’re pretty uncertain at this point. It will either come through and you’ll get to meet some of our oldest and dearest friends or we’ll all just sit around our place chatting and catching up.

In either case minty green has said he’d come(chatted with him a bit since there wasn’t a planning thread) and he’s planning on coming to the lounge before the show as long as the Rangers game doesn’t run too late.

Enjoy,
Steven

Make that 3 for 3. Moxmaiden won a Mr. Anderson action toy at the movies last night.

Minty Green - sorry if we missed you. Aglarond and I hung out in The Lounge until around 11:40 before going outside to get in line for the movie. Were you able to make the movie?
