Diablo 3, patch 2.0

Archon killed my hardcore wizard. Seriously.

I chased a treasure goblin past a group of “frozen” elites. Decided to pop Archon to smash the goblin to bits, intending to quickly teleport away before the frozen orbs shattered.

First part went fine. The goblin died from the Archon transformation explosion, a left click, and a push of the 1 key.

Second part didn’t go fine. I didn’t have the teleport skill in Archon form, so my guy just sat there stupidly frozen until the elite pack killed him. It was devastating.

As a fellow Hardcore player (currently 60 DH), I love reading the stories of Hardcore demises. Sorry, but, uh, not entirely sorry. Thanks!

I’ve been meaning to take advantage of the 50% experience buff and get all of my HC classes up to 60 before the expansion, but I am also addicted to getting my SC paragon up to 100 as well…maybe I can team up with you Kiros, or with some other HC players? My HC DH is at 55 and the rest of them are around 44-47. Would like to get those mega achievements before they may possibly get reset when the expansion comes out.

Yeah, the Hydra balls are pretty small. I suppose it could have been Black Hole. What about Arcane Orb? Is that purple by default?

Guess we’ll see Black Hole for sure when the expansion comes out. I wasn’t planning on getting it originally, but I probably will at this point. WOuldn’t be as fun to play along with everyone only to stop at the end of Act 4.

I have a hardcore char that needs leveling, but I’m not going to go back to her until I’m way more in practice. Plus I’ll probably replicate her build on one of my softcore monks, just to be sure that it still works the way it used to (it probably doesn’t, but hardcore is not the right environment for surprises).

I’ve only got 60s that could play with those right now, unfortunately, but I’d be happy to play if that’d be helpful. I’ve been focusing more on getting the paragon levels up and finding fun legendaries on my “normal” characters, but I’m always up for something different. If I’m on - it was a busy week with real life, unfortunately, but I hope to play for at least a few hours this weekend.

Chronos - you can always test builds on Normal difficulty, too. I don’t think there’s much risk of death for anyone familiar with the game, playing on Normal.

Actually, there’s another thing keeping me from Hardcore for now. On my softcore characters, I’ve had more than one instance where I’ve teleported to another player, gotten a loading screen for a few seconds, and then started hearing the sounds of battle while I was still on the loading screen. On at least one occasion, by the time I could actually see the battle, I was dead. Even on normal difficulty, a character can die from a multiple-second blind lagspike.

That’s the main reason I would never consider Hardcore. I have no interest in investing any time in something that will just make me rage when I eventually die because of lag.

HC can be rewarding…and yes, you can easily die through no fault of your own (trans lags and such). I’ve learned to be more careful when playing multiplayer and usually try to only trans when the group is stopped and clear of fights or stay together including going to town even if I don’t have to just to cut surprises down to a minimum.

Made 100 paragon level last night on my SC DH.

…And I just today realized that I was only playing the auction house to half its potential, this past week. I made a couple million or so by buying and re-selling white items on the SC auction house, but I completely neglected the HC one. Yeah, the HC house is a lot tighter, but I still probably could have turned a half-mil in profit, or so, which on my relatively low-level HC account would be a decent amount.

I get a bunch of white items, and I often try to auction them, but I don’t seem to get very much. How should I set up the auction to yield the best results for white items?

I’ve tried setting minimum bids of 10-50k, and no minimum. I typically get between 2-10k per item.

Well, you shouldn’t actually auction them - just set a max bid price and let people buy them immediately. No one puts in lower bids. And anyway, the auction house closes tomorrow, FYI.

Ah, fair enough. Thanks. And yeah, I figured it was fairly moot, since there’s only a day left to put up auctions.

The way I made my money (both on whites now and on other sorts of items earlier) was to search for auctions with a low minimum bid and no (or a ludicrously high) buyout price, and put in ludicrously low bids on all of them that I found. About 10%, I would end up winning, and then I’d keep whichever one I wanted for myself, and put the rest up with a low but reasonable buyout price. Any that didn’t sell, I’d lower the price and try again until they did, or at the worst just vendor them for about the same price I paid for them.

As an example, with whites this past week, I’ve been bidding about 1000 each for them (a price at which I won’t mind however many I get stuck with tomorrow), and selling them for anywhere between 30k and 100k (the market has, unsurprisingly, been quite unstable).

Well, here it is…tonight at midnight EDT, 9pm PDT…and I will not be on.

Why?

(WARNING: Rant ahead)

Because of Verizon. On Saturday at 11:28am PDT, I was online with my Hardcore DH, salvaging rares and blues (and fortunately, not in the middle of of fight) when my modem/router just up and died. My wife and middle son were all on and we all lost connection. My wife was studying for her next online test for her BCBA program and my son was just goofing off on a game. “I think the Verizon store is open on Saturdays…this shouldn’t take long.”, I told them as I checked on my phone that the store was open until 3pm on Saturdays…great. Headed out to the Verizon Fios store an hour later and signed into the queue which was non-existent, and was immediately called up…very quick unlike other times where I had to wait for half an hour to switch out my DVR set top boxes on previous trips. As I explained to the rep there that the modem/router flat our died (it was a Westell that lasted for 5 years, btw…better than average I think), the rep broke the bad news.

“We do not have any in stock…in fact we are permanently shutting down the store this Friday. You need to call Tech Support to arrange an exchange.” He gave me the number to tech support and I called them immediately from there store. Tech Support answered and I explained the dead m/r to them and they had no problem in sending me a new router…but it will not arrive until WEDNESDAY.

FREAKING WEDNESDAY.

Unacceptable!

I tried to bring my modem and router from work thinking that I can use them in the meanwhile, but I learned that Verizon FiOS has “proprietary” hardware that can only access the internet signal and so I am stuck without internet for 4 days. So here I am…no router at home (I’m at work posting this), because of Verizon’s “new and improved” business model.

Bastards.

I preordered through Amazon. It says they’re set to ship on…March 31. WTF?
